Another day, another breach that has affected millions of customers.

If you ask me, I have the opinion that when companies keep getting records with hundreds of millions of users on it, then it is time for regulators to step in and make some new regulation to penalize these sorts of data breaches even more than they currently are today.

U.S. phone giant AT&T confirmed Friday it will begin notifying millions of consumers about a fresh data breach that allowed cybercriminals to steal the phone records of “nearly all” of its customers, a company spokesperson told TechCrunch.

In a statement, AT&T said that the stolen data contains phone numbers of both cellular and landline customers, as well as AT&T records of calls and text messages — such as who contacted who by phone or text — during a six-month period between May 1, 2022 and October 31, 2022.

AT&T said some of the stolen data includes more recent records from January 2, 2023 for a smaller but unspecified number of customers.

The stolen data also includes call records of customers with phone service from other cell carriers that rely on AT&T’s network, the company said.

Crazy! They are claiming around 110 million customers are affected, this much be one of the biggest hacks in history!
All phone records and messages are now exposed and I sure government is going to propose some new regulations that will only affect customers in negative way.
If anyone thinks that phone data was ever safe and secure better forget about it.

If hackers can do this to big companies like AT&T, then small and medium companies are not safe from hackers who are better at hacking than these security experts.

And since AT&T only operates in America, that's one third of Americans' data breached.

That is, anyone who hasn't been caught up in the massive Ticketmaster clusterfuck that happened very recently was probably snared in this breach.

I was reading more about AT&T and they are third largest telecommunications company in the world, one of the biggest wireless carrier in US, and they had monopoly for phone service during 20th century!
It is crazy that we are witnessing more big hacks like this but governments and companies are always convincing us that our data is safe and secure.

Even though they have top-notch security hackers can still find a way to steal data to find and exploit the weakest link sometimes these are caused by human errors. A system cannot be always 100% hackproof but it can increase its cybersecurity by creating a multilayer approach to control access and mitigate possible hacking

Yeah imagine almost all of the customer data are leaked it's so hard to trust again after that incident. the hackers on the other hand will find ways to steal or disrupt the system even with how strong the security is especially if they have accomplices inside the company.

Yes it is worrying to see big companies like AT&T get hacked. They have a lot of money and experts so it is surprising they ca not keep our information safe. This makes us wonder if they are doing enough to protect us. When companies and governments say our data is safe but then it gets hacked so it indicates us that never trust on them. We need them to be honest and take responsibility. We should demand better protection for our personal information and companies should make this their top priority.

If companies that have people's personal data understand the penalties of losing these data to cyber criminals, I believe they will put more effort into trying to beef up their security and make it almost impossible for it to be hacked. All these sorts of news about data breaches increases the fear that people have when companies demand personal documents and information. One reason why some people are still against KYC verification run by some casinos and other online companies.

Well at this point, everyone's SSNs have been hacked, everyone's names are probably around publicly in some form, and now telephone numbers have been exposed en-masse. And I'm going to assume that *a lot* of people's addresses were also leaked in other hacks, so it wouldn't surprise me if the hackers are having a payday with borrowing people's credit.

even if they are not hacked from you they can easily find your address from dumpsters every time we make a delivery and our packages are left in the trash we forget that all our information are still there be cautious and aware of your surroundings at all timee

Attacking corporations from the inside out has been around for decades. Get one or two people on the inside be patient and gather info.
