Should children be educated about Bitcoin?

I've read a lot of threads about whether children should be exposed to things like Bitcoin and at what age, and opinions are divided on this, probably because people in different cultures raise their children differently. Although I personally advocated the position that children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood as long as possible, somehow it seems to me that at some point they should be introduced to the fact that Bitcoin exists and how it works.

My opinion is that children should be at least 12+ years old to present such things to them, and of course the simplest presentation would be through a video like the one you can see in this topic. What is your opinion on this topic and do you think that children should be educated about Bitcoin?

I think it’s best that they learn about it if they are interested in it. Asking them if they are willing to understand what is the best way to have money and how you could save that would accrue a lot of money in terms of interest (with the price of the market). What makes it even more important to have the knowledge of having limited supply as well.

Maybe helping them setup a wallet and you could help them earn and deposit to them when they did something good.

Overall, I’m all for education.

I personally do not recommend children to learn about bitcoin because they will later know what bitcoin is from the internet, YouTube, and even from social media, because bitcoin is not the basis of education, it is more about investment and the right time to invest is probably over the age of 17, which can be said to be mature enough to manage their own money.

I never talked to my kid about bitcoin

I talk with him about money a lot (as everything costs money). I am think he is too young to understand the causes of inflation, government control, central bank...

At 12+, I think I will do that  I might even give some bitcoin to him in a mobile wallet.

At a young age, what parents want, is for their kids to be learned first by focusing on their studies before bringing about other things they should start up with.

Children should be educated on what's on their level of reasoning, not what's above them that involves money because time for that will come when they will learn all that from the school they attend, the internet or from friends they mingle with.

To me, educating children at a young age about bitcoin is not the necessary thing to do as a parent. Our children should first learn how to care for themselves and differentiate good from evil. When they learn about this, other things might follow. By then, they have learned how to save money

Actually you have said it all because 12+ is just the perfect age for any parents to start teaching there children the ways of Bitcoin, however in most cases people feel that the early age is the best time to teach children about Bitcoin but what they failed to understand is that teaching children about Bitcoin at a very tender age like 7 or 8 years could possibly have some effect on the children because they could hardly understand what is good or bad and before they realize it could influence them negatively.

But the moment a child is 12 years they would be ready to understand what Bitcoin is all about and also know the risk associated and with this it will be very difficult for that child to gamble with an investment if giving the opportunity.

I am with the same opinion that 12+ would be a good starting point for children to get exposed gradually to financial concepts including cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. Parents should be teaching their children on managing money and yes also investing so they would end up financially independent when they grow up and not be slaves to the usual workplace. Bitcoin must be included in financial literacy program that parents must adopt...the only problem is when the parents are themselves not financially independent and not good in investing money which in this case they have nothing to teach their children of and this can be the case where schools should come in.

Thank you all for your comments - and I think we can agree that children should learn at an appropriate age that there is something like Bitcoin, because if they get too used to fiat and bank cards, it may be much more difficult for them to explain how bad that system is and that there is an alternative.

However, I believe that any education in this direction should be without any pressure - a video of a few minutes can clearly show us whether someone wants to know more or is simply not interested in such things at that moment. What is most important to me is that children understand that Bitcoin is not just some "get rich quick" scheme, but that it is much more than that.

I'd say that 12 years old should be educated about bitcoin and of course, the final decision is up to them where your aim is to educate them about bitcoin and let them decide if they will get involved in cryptocurrency like bitcoin or not at all. It would have been great if I know about bitcoin when I was younger. It takes about 9 years before I know about bitcoin although as many people have said, it's not too late or it is never too late to be in bitcoin.

What you are expecting is what we think. The problem is that after exposing the kids with Bitcoin, will they understand? It is understood that kids, who are exposed to something new will always ask questions.

Well yeah kids above 12 might not understand it at once but their curiousity will drive their interest on Bitcoin as crazy as we did today when they are really willing to learn about it and that is a good sign of them having interest in something that is futuristic. A good teacher will make their kids a good listener and learner so I am very positive about this though this also depends on how we teach them and how interested they are but yeah it really depends upon the situation.

Bitcoin was created by Satoshi nakamoto with the purpose of breaking the barriers in p2p transactions by removing a third party from transactions with is locally know as the fiat banking institutions. And it was successful, and this even made long distance transactions to become  much easier and faster compared to passing  through the usual procedures with traditional fiat banks. However from a younger age, they can start learning theoretically what bitcoin is, and its advantages that supercedes fiat banks. That could help them understand better the importance of bitcoin. Bitcoin is not a difficult to understand  so why wait for very long time before teaching them about bitcoin, sometimes you'll be shocked that they have already gotten  a misinformation from their peers because you failed to educate them about it on time and that could lead to trust issues or refusal to accept bitcoin, and if they refuse to accept bitcoin how then can we pass it on to the next generation?

As a parent then it would really be that depending on you but it would really be the best spot is on the age on where they are already that matured enough on learning up things and
they are really that already on the state on where curiosity and other behaviors is really that quite evident on which this is the moment that you will really be kicking up some information
on which you could really be able to teach them but of course it would really be that something situational. Its true that let them be able to experience and cherish out their childhood
rather than on forcing them to know things on which it doesnt supposed to be learnt up immedaite specially on young age.

i believe we should slowly integrate bitcoin to our children's lives regardless of their age but not in a way that it puts too much pressure on them they will learn it sooner or later anyway since bitcoin is the future of tech and finance so why don't we help to make it easier?

i think giving out many information at 12 is less desirable than slowly but constantly explaining a few aspects of bitcoin from when growing up besides a kid is more likely to retain some information if it is taught to them at an early age and constantly is reminded of it

Yeah is fine if children are educated about Bitcoin, when they are of age they can decide weather to invest or not to invest, is also a form of education so there's nothing wrong with it, when you educate your children about investment when they come of age they will see the need of investment.
I know of a man who has been accumulating Bitcoin for some years now and he has decided to transfer all his Bitcoin to his children in this kind of case is good to start teaching them about Bitcoin at an early stage of there life, if children are educated about Bitcoin it will be more easy for them to know about it, some people went through a lot for some time just to learn about Bitcoin and some made mistakes along the line so is better to teach children about Bitcoin so when they come of age they will not find it hard or make mistakes.

However when teaching them about Bitcoin please let do it slowly no need to rush them to learn it, they are still children, and what we should teach them are just the basic knowledge about Bitcoin investment and not all about Bitcoin.
A lot of people are of the opinion that there's no need teaching your children about Bitcoin since they will still learn it on social media or as they come of age, now my question is what is wrong in teaching a child the basics of Bitcoin, is a form of education and is a good impactful one since it will help them as they come of age so I see nothing wrong with it.
