Rewarding women effort in the block chain/web3 space
« on: August 21, 2024, 04:10:09 PM »
Hi everyone,

For me, in-person networking at events has always been the most effective way to build connections, aside from the online space. As a woman in the blockchain space, attending an event that recognizes women in the blockchain/tech industry for their hard work is on my bucket list. It’s genuinely inspiring to see such recognition and support.

I haven't attended many events specifically focused on women in blockchain, but I'd like to change that this year. One of my goals is to attend various blockchain symposiums that support women in crypto.

Let’s discuss this further. What are your thoughts on women’s inclusivity in the blockchain and Web3 space? Are there any initiatives that actively promote this?

Gender shouldn't matter in the web3 and crypto space, as contributions should be valued based on merit, innovation, and impact. However, to an extent though, women may  have been underrepresented and undervalued in tech and blockchain.

Rewarding women for their contributions doesn't diminish the achievements of men I this same field rather it kinda addresses the gender gap, promotes diversity, and encourages equal opportunities for both genders. Men have indeed played a significant role in shaping the blockchain and web3 space, and their contributions should be acknowledged and appreciated as well as those of women.
In my opinion general events can be held and contributors irrespective of gender can participate.

Like you said, it looks like there's a lot more effort recently, to promote and encourage women's participation in the ecosystem, the other day, I came across a "Blockchain4Her Awards" event that celebrates women in blockchain, and apparently it was launched by Bitget.

Now that I think about it, this is something you can look into because it gives you the opportunity to meet influential leaders and women doing impressive stuff in web 3.

You can check out the participation link here

Your second paragraph addresses my concerns. This is a male dominated field. I think women that managed to hold it down here needs to be celebrated. The other forum member mentioned Blockchain4Her initiative, I think that's a good one to enhance diversity and women inclusion in the blockchain space. Kudos to the convener

I haven't attended many events specifically focused on women in blockchain, but I'd like to change that this year.

Why should there be events focused only on women?
Do you think that if someone would make events in which only males participate would be a normal thing to do?

This kind of positive discrimination is one of the worst things to ever be implemented by some, quotas based on sex, and events focused on one race, don't help even a little and all they do is make things worse, proven time after time after time, with an enormous backslash even from women themselves.

Gender shouldn't matter in the web3 and crypto space, as contributions should be valued based on merit, innovation, and impact.

Exactly, we should strive for a meritocracy society, not a quota one, encouraging one group to achieve more is one thing, imposing restrictions on others to level the play is completely different and wrong.

everyone they can get an award but according to what he does and in what field he makes an impact for him. they must have a new idea or innovation so that it creates new insights for the development of blockchain and does not look at it male or female, by having expertise in the field and making a company proud of his work so that for all that he can get an award.

Are there any initiatives that actively promote this?

SheFi, H.E.R. Dao, Women Rise NFT, CryptoFemale, World of Women, Rising Women in Crypto Community, Women of Web3 are some of the women-led communities in crypto.

As for awards, like you said "gender shouldn't matter in the web3 and crypto space." Awards should be given to those who have made a significant impact, regardless of gender.

Let’s discuss this further. What are your thoughts on women’s inclusivity in the blockchain and Web3 space? Are there any initiatives that actively promote this?

I don’t know of any event that’s aim at bringing women together for a block chain/web 3 space. Having all gender inclusivity in events like this are very important. The Crypto space is growing as it’s expanding, there’s a need to carry everyone along and not just focused on one gender only. All gender embracing it will further have the adoption of it further in masses. Events on block chain and web 3 space should be something that should be encouraged for women to also attend and get knowledge on it, it is importation to do so and from there we may see large number of women embracing newest technology.

Quoting or calling it just women base is kinda looking not too cool to me now, it may sound okay but also sounds like gender inequality which men won’t also like to hear. Women should be allowed to know what it entails to be part of this newest technology. Few women are into the space, joining and meeting in events organized globally for all genders could change the narratives soon.

In every settings, there will be women involved, even though it may not be as many as the rate at which men were being involved, secondly, we are to observe and notice that in many aspects, we do have little number of women participation, but despite that, their impact and influence on every settings is being felt and i think its something worth doing if we take time in recognizing their efforts and celebrating them as well.

Why should there be separate events for women, if you want to attend crypto events, do so as a crypto enthusiast and forget about the gender talk, i don't think anyone cares about gender when we are talking about BTC, crypto or the blockchain technology. If a woman or man does anything worth recognizing, their efforts would be recognized, a separate category is not required for that to happen.

i guess since not a lot of women are present in the industry some people wants to highlight them and uplift them by doing such events maybe more women will be encouraged to follow the steps of the women before them but in my opinion, doing events like may just create more division between women and men

why can’t we just treat both genders equally? no special treatment no biases no discrimination each gender we want to normalize women in the crypto industry so don’t make too big of a deal if there are women in the industry

Creating divisions didn't really inspire many women to partake in the field but did the exact opposite and made them think that this is not a field for women so just letting it be common is the best thing and these blockchain events itself is not that common so it's really appreciable if someone notices the event and be a part in it. After all, the essence of crypto and blockchain is decentralization and inclusivity, where anyone, regardless of gender, can contribute and be recognized based on merit alone.

I don't know if there are less women in crypto or in blockchain technology as of this time. We have seen a lot of industries and sectors that have a lot of women so I will say that this could also be the trend in the next couple of years.

why can’t we just treat both genders equally? no special treatment no biases no discrimination each gender we want to normalize women in the crypto industry so don’t make too big of a deal if there are women in the industry

With this era? we are, both of them have been treated equally already and there are no gender biases. Because if you are, of if this industry is like that, we could have been cancelled by our society.

Re: Rewarding women effort in the block chain/web3 space
« Reply #13 on: January 24, 2025, 03:08:53 PM »

Exactly, We should not discriminate based on gender, because everyone has equal capabilities and rights. The saying 'what a man can do, a woman can do better' highlights the importance of equality. Both men and women have valuable contributions to make in the web3 space. By supporting and encouraging each other, we can create a more inclusive and productive blockchain and web3 community. This will enable each and everyone, regardless of gender, to participate and contribute their unique perspectives and skills.
