+/- karma isn't even really for people who don't follow the forum rules, i believe karma is simply about the quality of posts that a member makes, if it is a quality post, then +1, but if it is negative, then -1. However, the karma system can only be regulated if we are allowed to see who gives them to us and on which posts we received them.

Actually, it is, people who break the forum rules will be awarded with negative Karma and admin gave few possible reasons for getting positive as well as negative Karma

When you will get Positive Karma:

• Providing good answers, interesting questions, useful topics and helpful comments for other members
• Making translations of forum guides, news or crypto projects for your local language section
• Accurately reporting posts, users and bugs as well as proposing good suggestions
• Writing an article about the forum see: How to get a positive Karma point fast
• Being friendly, welcoming, respectful and helpful towards others

When you will get Negative Karma:

• Breaking the forum rules > read the rules here
• Spamming your referral link or website
  
• Plagiarism, shilling and shitposting
• Being aggressive or rude to others
• Ignoring advise given to you by mods

While some of them can be only decided by the admin, mods and other staff while we as a user can stick with the quality of the content presented for the discussion can be taken into account for granting +/- Karma as we see but it's better not to abuse the power that doesn't good for anything.

But in your case, someone may have given you negative karma because of purposefully being evil. But the rules of this forum are a bit complicated because we should know why, how, who gave negative karma. Since there is no option of positive or negative karma results, in many cases one has to be harassed. Giving negative karma at will means abusing the power of the account. I don't want such a confusing situation so admin should reveal the identity of the person giving the karma.

Breaking the rules ? Lol. Feel free to go through my post history and see my posting style for yourself. I'm not a shit poster same way I don't break rules. Infact no ordinary member of this forum has the right to directly punish a rule violator except you are an admin or a moderator. The best should be reporting such person or making the whole thing known to the forum so the forum moderators can do the needful.
Personally the best I could say Is I've been given negative Karma on the basis of differences in Idea or point of view, which is not supposed to be so. A negative Karma is not something to be given just because someone else has a different view from you. Infact let's just spit out the fact that if everyone had exactly the same view there would be no need to create topics.

I gave you another +karma but you have to realize some people could just be fucking with you and others to see if they get a rise. Trolls abound on every forum.

I am sure there is a person that just gives -karma to a lot of other people.  Not that I would but I could neg a whole thread just to see if the admin would ask me what the fuck are you doing Phil you gave everyone in that thread a neg.

I have to think some one is doing that on this website just to see if admin asks them to stop.

I have intended giving +ve karma but mistakenly clicked -ve karma. But in such situations I'll click the + again to balance.

As I recall, the weight of karma (-) is greater than karma (+) on points, I suggest you don't make this mistake often.

Please, on which other points? You mean the general profile points? I am not even aware that karma affects points...LOL. I just believe that karma ends on the display in profile. I think once or twice I made that mistake, the person's karma count will reduce, but if I click the positive it will immediately add up. I didn't know there's a deeper consequence.

Of course you have a point and that could be possible too. Some users out there may just be trying to toil and joke around with the karma system randomly giving out both negative and positive karma. However I've come across some posts like I mentioned before where admin claimed to be keeping watch of the karma system for possible people abusing it.
Probably someone like you said is out there giving out karma randomly to see if admin would notice it. However I still believe it kinda has a 50% chance since some people here too may be farming the karma system by exchanging karma without admin noticing it.

Thank you for pointing this out to me and for linking to that post, it has provided me with more insights on +/- karma. +1 karma for you.

I think the admin should edit out the part where they say that negative karma can be given to one who is aggressive or rude, i know it sucks to be any of that, but do you think that is enough to get a negative karma, and don't you think people will abuse it and just give negative karma to anybody they disagree with?

While that could be the reason, should that not be considered an abuse of karma, this is why i think the part where the admin states that karma can be given when one is arrogant and rude should be changed. I am not saying Mia was or is any of that, but what i am saying is that some members can take disagreeing with their opinions to be arrogant and rude.

It could be an abuse or not, if he or she disagree with Mia, then it's up to that individual. I won't touch what wrong or not about negative karma as again it has been discussed multiple times already.

In the past I also got karma (-) several times and each 1 karma reduces more points than if I received karma (+). And it also reduces the amount of subsequent accumulated points obtained from posts. Points can be used to claim ALTS or forum's token and remove the karma (-) itself.

i don’t think that is the right way to go about building a community how are we going to have a fruitful discussion and interaction if some of us get offended easily and click on - karma immediately?

i would understand if negative karmas are given to those who spam and share unreliable links and information and refuse to learn from their mistakes but if someone who just genuinely made a mistake, should you right away give negative karma? i don’t think so it’s just not productive imo

Maybe i missed it, but i have not read where it has been raised and the admin gave a direct answer to it, however, from your post i can understand that the admin is not considering changing anything about that, which is understandable. We can only give our own suggestions, it is up to the admin to implement it or not.

I believe that you are not far from the truth, because there are many teleported accounts from BTT that some may consider expendable and honestly they don't care if they get caught or not - they have unlimited amounts of karma to play their dirty games. In relation to how many people you have irritated on BTT over the years, the chances are that much greater that they will use this non-transparent system to take revenge on you.

Firstly let me start by spotting out the fact I have literally gotten negative Karma more than once but my question is for what reason??  Of course many members here teleported from bitcoin talk and so they should know me and how I post. Lets just say I'm not a spammer coupled with the fact that I'm quite good with technical discussions on average. I don't post garbage so why the negative Karma like for what reason?
Everyone should have noticed that Mia never insults even on bitcoin talk, I haven't criticised anyone either.

If you think someone is giving you negative karma on purpose, like without any real reason, then you must report it to the admin, as last time there was a member who experienced the same thing, and he reported this behavior to the admin, and he looked into it and came up with the results that the member was saying was true, so for compensation, the admin rewarded him with some karma if I am not wrong (I am not very sure about the refund of karma, but you should search for it if you want).

Getting negative karma without knowing the reason is a total frustration and there are chances that someone doesn't want you to get any karma or there are reasons that someone actually giving you negative karma for some real reason. last time there was a member who experienced the same thing, and he reported this behavior to the admin, and he looked into it and came up with the results that the member was saying was true, so for compensation, the admin rewarded him with some karma if I am not wrong (I am not very sure about the refund of karma, but you should search for it if you want).

I never saw such a topic, i guess i missed it, if you find the topic, please share the link here for others ro read. If this is true, it is kind of helpful but not so much, so many people would not want to report something like that to the admin, it is just better if we can see who gives us karma and on which post we receive it, so if there is an abuse, it will be easy to spot and deal with.
