You have a point here, airdrops are full of scams and fake news how can a user participate and advertise your project and you promise to give them a valuable reward and later on you ask the user to pay for gas fee or even pay some amount of token to receive their rewards what a disappointing decision.
About bounty I will fully agree with you cause  bounty don’t need your money or even your asset what they only need is just your time and dedication and you will earn a very profitable rewards but bounty now is something else they are not paying or being more trustworthy as years back but it still more a better place to work than airdrops.

Airdrop scams are on the rampage and there is nothing anyone can do about it. As long as crypto is concerned, lots of scammers would always take advantage of every opportunity that avails itself. No matter how scams looks like,  it sometimes looks real and it takes only experienced  enthusiasts to detect it as newbies would hardly understand or know what's up till they are rugged. Everyone in one way or the other have experienced such situations as newbies or so. I will just advise that anyone going into any crypto project this period should be very careful and should make  sure they do their own research before investing or taking part in any of the activity.

Honestly, I am not an airdrop lover and do not have much experience in choosing a good airdrop project because of my bitter experience when participating in airdrops. The main key on here that you should always put up into your mind is that whenever you do cross yourself into somehting which is really that too good to be true, then its definitely a scam.
This is a simple rule but tons of people do really still get blinded by their greed and thats why they do really end up on getting scammed even if the scam is really that too obvious.
They will really be just that only trying out to avoid on the time or moment that they have lost that big  time, but actually they could actually be able to avoid it if they are really just that being

Yup .... you are absolutely right, because in the past it was only to introduce new projects, and we were given easy tasks, then got coins from the project without any kind of reciprocity.
