Although I personally have not fallen victim to one of these scams but a couple of friends of mine have been scammed
And I would really love to know what are the steps one should take in other to avoid falling for these scams

Exactly which scam are you talking about?
the general tip I give to everyone is to always search X and discord for the project you're thinking of investing in to find out if it's real or not, or if there's something unusual going on.

There are some nft scams that send you nfts in your wallet trying to get you to access and then sign some txs in your wallet

I really don't know about other ways you can be scammed through NFTs but for the ones I have seen a friend of mine bought non existing NFTs from a marketplace which I'm sure was created by the scammers and as for the other she was directed to a website were she unknowingly revealed sensitive info about her wallet and It was hacked

So it wasn't really a NFT scam, it was more like the typical scam in which they get you to connect your wallet and drain it, it happens with fake airdrops, fake exchanges, fake everything, not something purely NFT related.

Rather than that let me give you a way in which you will never be scammed, just stay away from it, the hype is already dead and there is an oversupply of it, even buying a legit one from a legit source and there is 99% chance of losing money on the value!

The best way to never be scammed is not to open one's wallet for anything that maybe dubious in value and never ever be convinced what someone is promising what can happen into the future. You have not provided some details on this scam but I am assuming that your friends were led to buy some NFTs and then later on realize they don't have real value at all and could not be resold in the market. This is so common even up to now not just in NFTs but also in memecoins where investors are hyped up to buy this and that and then see that the devs and the people behind the project are experiencing some fading glitches...or just gone with the wind leaving investors with empty plastic bags. Beware...scams are everywhere in the cryptocurrency industry...just like we also have many good opportunities and possible rewards.

I saw some people getting scamed by NFTS. Although NFTS are not for scam. Fast you have to learn what is NFT. It's a non fungible token. Or you can say it a digital art that are licensed. So I recently saw in social media that people are getting scammed in a unique way. Those who didn't have any knowledge about NFT commerce approach them and tell them to that they have a way to make profit huge amount. Those who is newly in crypto or don't know about NFT fall for it. Basically what they do is they choose a random and ft which below value is around 5 cent or you can sit in sent to 20 cents it's a cheap price NFT. So that what that send and send their victim that NFT serial number or link and tell them to buy that collection so that they can make a huge profit. They also ensure them that this collection will Palm 100 to 20%. So the victim fall for it cause he don't have to transfer the fund directly to someone. He is trading in a reputable platform like binance so it ensures him that he won't get scam. But what he don't know that he is buying a NFT which floor price is nearly zero OR very cheap and his buying it very high. So after buying that specifically NFT provided by the scammer. The scammers blocked them. Scammers get the money  cause it's his collection.

So beware of these scams.

In order t no get scammed when buying NFT's is you need to research about the NFT project to make sure its legit you can read in their discord or twotter or where the posted the abouts of their project, use well known and trusted platforms to avoid scams, and always think before you click because there are a lot of links that says giveaway or free nft but it is a scam make sure to not just click any suspicious links

First, maybe don't trust social media too much, the digital world is full of fakes.
Second, there are so many fake accounts that use other people's names and end up committing fraud, this problem is not only in crypto but also in real businesses.
Third, it's better to continue discussing with the experienced crypto community because those who are experienced and provide the best advice will definitely keep us away from Scammers, especially NFT social media like what happened to your friend.
