What if the Account Owner Dies?

I never thought to write this thread but age must have a limit. What if a member here dies but he has a complex case that is unknown to his friends in the real world.
For example:

- he is in the middle of a contest that looks like a candidate to be the winner and needs confirmation of attendance.
- he is doing escrow transactions with other members.
- he has debts to fellow altcoinstalks members.
- and there are still many other tasks that he has not done with his relations here.

Is there any special treatment from the Admin or Staff for members who have died?
Is there anyone here at altcoinstalks who has seen and experienced the story of a member who has died?

how will they be able to give ‘special treatment’ or at least consideration if they don’t know if that person died what if the family of the member doesn’t know about this forum or doesn’t know how to log in to his or her account the forum will never know that a member died it would just look like the member became inactive

You answered your question yourself, already. You just said that their activities here is unknown to those that know them in real life so if they should “pass on to glory” how will the forum member know about it?

If they should die, the only theory that forum members will use is either they are busy in real life or they decided to quit the forum and if it involves them being an escrow they’ll just assume that they ran away with the money - I don’t think they’ll get any special treatment since there’s no one to tell the community what actually happened to that member so instead they’ll get treated like any other members.

No one knows me from the real world so if anything happens to me they won't have a clue about it so the days will pass and the account will never be coming online and that's it, we don't have to give anything special because they won't be here to see anything right?

If you know someone from here and something happened to them then you can use the reputation board to announce it and probably admin can give a dedicated badge and lock the account for hacks and anything.

Mostly, one of his family members or friends will inform us here or close the account if they can reach him, but if s/he has a debt, it will be paid from his money or someone close to him will do so, but most often if the amount is small, many people tend to forgive the debt, especially if the account is reliable.

That's a big what if, and we can't do anything about it unless someone from the users side (family or friends) comes here to announce that sad news. With all the affected parties when talking financial transaction e.g. for escrow, i guess that's very unfortunate and just as said, we can't do anything about it especially if the amount were sent already to the escrow account.

In bitcointalk forum admin added special RIP notes for some OG accounts that were confirmed by other members who know them as being dead.
Most of the time this is not possible to confirm and I wouldn't worry so much about that, but it's good to protect accounts with strong passwords an log out for security purposes.
I would say that everyone who is inactive for long time should have INACTIVE note on his account, this is something we have shown with BPIP.

The same as what happens with any other accounts of the dead owner - they get abandoned. Or auto-deleted if the user hasn't logged in after some months.

It is hard to confirm if truly the owner of an account is dead, i.e. what if a member takes a loan and they cannot pay back and one day someone posts from the account that they are a relative and that the owner is dead, there is no way to be sure if it is just an excuse not to pay, or if it is true.

There is no special treatment given to people who pass away on this forum, and you have to ensure that you engage in deals with trusted users, so if truly they pass away, their family or friends on the forum might pay off their debts to you.

To do this, the death of the user would have to be confirmed by several users (we cannot confirm if a supposed family member says this from the affected account) of the forum, who knew the user in question well. That way the administrator could grant some special badge for cases like this.

In the years I've been on this forum, I've never seen any badge or text on a user's profile that says "RIP" or anything similar, and it also does not appear by default in the master badge list.

There haven't been any case of a dead user of this forum I've come across, but on the other forum, there are several users who are late and one can easily tell by visiting their forum profile, there is a special note which says "in memorial" that is added just under their forum scores. I don't know about other users but I personally find this feature very useful, but then, before a user that is late gets such title in his or her profile, there have to be a confirmation of that user's death from multiple reliable and well trusted users on the forum.

It is not a must do, like it's not really an obligation for admin here but then, he can try to emulate same thing so that other users can easily spot profiles of users that are late.

And concerning whether or if the user was owning another forum user before death struck, it's simply what it is, there is nothing the user who was owed can do except forget about the money.
Except the family of the deceased knows about the deceased activities on this forum and decides to settle the dept/loan, this has nothing to do with admin or the management of this forum.

Imo, forum should not intervene in any  contest or giveaway or escrow or whatever.

If the forum member scam someone, or dies, or whatever, the administration of the forum should at most tag the account.

@Freemind It seems that the ticker "RIP" is more appropriate to be given to members who have passed away.

@Fivestar4everMVP or the ticker "In Memorial" is also more suitable for members who have passed away, this is a good suggestion in my opinion.

@bitmover Well, there should be a tag on the account if the member has died, such as the "RIP" and "In Memorial" signs.
But after I re-read the replies to this thread from all the members, it turns out that there are still some who keep it a secret that they joined the altcoinstalks forum to their relatives, family, friends or colleagues. This makes it difficult to confirm if there is an account owner who has died.

You have quite a nice point. In the case of a truly anonymous user on a forum like this , you won't really be able to tell if they eventually passed on or they lost all details to their login or they for one reason or the other decided to become inactive. The fact is to really be able to tell someone passed on in a forum or community like this they need to have someone who would verify that they for some reason eventually passed on.

In some cases , the user may announce his inactivity in the future due to some life threatening disease that would eventually claim their life . Anyways like others have mentioned too, a title of " In memorial " would be great especially if the person had a positive impact on the forum.
