I don't understand that you assume Bitcoin is mandatory. Bitcoin is surely the main coin, it is like the mother of all crypto coins. However, it doesn't mean altcoins can survive without Bitcoin. Altcoins have their own ecosystem, altcoins have their own market. I think altcoins can survive although Bitcoin disappears. As long as we have exchanges and crypto market, altcoins will be there to trade by any people around the world.

It probably wouldn't happen for real, though the bounce back due to BTC collapsing would be huge, so huge in fact, that many of alts would die, in my opinion, but they wouldn't be gone or something like that, just correlated into the oblivion and the whole situation on the market from such an event.

Well this is the right answer in my opinion, even before this question there seemed to be a lot of narratives like this when bitcoin first appeared, but in reality bitcoin has survived until now and can even develop further.
