One of the things i do hate is on the time or moment that you would really be getting blamed just because you have said something or recommended or really that talking about something.
If that someone do make out some bad decisions or ended up on bad situations then the first thing that comes up into their mind is to blame out into those people who had that suggested

My opinion after reading your story is that you should not be blamed at all for the man's addiction to gambling. Because here you don't teach him to gamble here if you teach him and tell him to gamble without the warning that gambling should fund as much as the fun a person has the power to lose.
And besides, even if you teach him to gamble, I don't think there is anything wrong with you, because gambling can be played for entertainment purposes, but investing too much in it because of greed is the person's fault. His wife should convince her husband first that gambling is moneymaking. No source it should be taken as entertainment only.

Personally, I wouldn't blame the person who told me about a product as long as I'm not forced to buy it. The problem is a lot of people are like the wife.
