has anyone heard of the term pig butchering? apparently it is the term for scammers who essentially fatten up their victims like pigs until they are ready to be butchered for maximum profit this is usually done by building a personal relationship with the victims often romantic in nature some scammers will litter dating apps or even text you randomly trying to flirt until you give your trust and they eventually persuade you into buying or investing in something

the sad part here is those at the forefront aka those who are actively talking to the victims are also victims themselves of human trafficking or kidnapping

so no matter how alone you feel and wants to talk to someone always be wary of people you meet online and do not let yourself fall for this type of scam

Firstly Op +1 for bringing up a discussion like this to the forum. Before now I'm aware of scamming schemes like this however I never knew that PIG BUTCHERING is actually the word for it kudos for that too.
Like I always say the internet can either be a blessing or a nightmare to you depending on how you make use of it as well as how current and smart you are. The crypto space and the internet is flooded with different scamming schemes and being aware is one way to prevent falling victims.

The truth is as much as we continue to expose scams out there, they. Still get different updates from time to time which certainly people will still fall victims to. The idea is to be informed , careful and not be greedy as it's also a method they use to get hold of people.

It's strange that you missed it, because we discussed it on BTT last year. I understand why that expression, but in any case it sounds ugly, although for those who find themselves in the middle of something like that, it certainly looks even uglier.

When it comes to something like that, I always remember one case that is probably a record in that regard - a scam that lasted as long as 15 years.

i have so many questions since 15 years is not a long time and i don’t think i can spend that much being in a relationship with someone else and not seeing them in person this italian athlete must have really fallen in love lol

anyway did they never do video calls? did he never introduce his ‘girlfriend’ to anyone that might have known the real model i can’t believe he fell for all her lies

i found another example of pig butchering

a ceo of a bank in a town of roughly 2000 residents received a whatsapp message and has convinced him to invest in crypto and that he will make good profits immediately if he does this started late 2022 and by early 2023 the ceo was already transferring money from the bank to crypto wallets

you would think that he would be smarter as he is a ceo of a bank but i guess scammers do have their ways in fooling someone

The story really sounds unbelievable, but according to everything, it really happened. Most people would probably have suspected much earlier that something was not right, but there are obviously naive people who believe in fairy tales even in adulthood.

As for the example you gave, it's not always related that people in positions are necessarily intelligent - especially if it's such small places where jobs are obviously assigned based on family/friendship connections.

Scam hubs are the one doing it; its a large-scale scamming method; they even have scripts on what to say to their potential victims to make them believe that they are true and legit, These scam hubs also have models to talk to their potential victims and when they get their approval and trust they will lead them to platform they own and urge them to invest.
So many of these scam hubs use POGOs as their coverup.
So its better to not believe on what people you just met online say, do a verification and investigation, if the offer is too good to be true its already a big red flag.
