gambling with a friend
« on: November 04, 2024, 01:29:31 PM »
we can’t help but be competitive with our friends sometimes that we often challenge them into bets over literally anything it could be about watching sports or just betting on something to happen

sometimes we honor these bets and do give off what was the agreed upon reward/consequence but i have heard stories of friendships getting tainted because of betting

just like a few people i know; two men decided to play and bet on something and when one guy lost he didn’t want to pay the other one so the winner friend got mad and smashed his car

do you ever see yourself ruining a friendship if your friend didn’t honor said bet? or it’s really not that serious? who is at fault here, the friend who didn’t push through the bet because he lost? or the friend who got angry?

I can not be very stupid to something like this to a friend. All because he did not pay the amount. All because he did not pay for the bet, I should damage his car. I can not do that. That is bad. I will think he did not mean it and taking it not serious. I will prefer to forget about it. But that should be for a good friend. Not a stingy and selfish friend. I know the type of people I have as a friend. If his behavior is not good with mine, I stop being such person's friend.

Also if I really mean to bet with a friend, we eill give the money to someone before we would bet. If we did not do like that, that is not a bet.

I think people should stop this type of gambling because it seems that people are not obeying their gambling activity. As we know gambling is a game to win or lose but if they bet on something and the results comes out against them is it better to settle the winner than holding back the winning because you think is just your friend and nothing is happening. Something people don't take it likely and are serious with whatever they are doing, so to me it's better he settled, even though he got angry and smatch his car its a bet and not a game.

This is the more reason why some people don't get there friends and family into their business because it has broken allot of relationship because of not honoring each other based on the relationship that they have created with each other, in friendship what is needed to keep it alive and going is mutual respect and regard for each other as a brege in respect for each other will lead to the breakdown of the friendship. In this case the both of them are at fault as they didn't respect each other

Cases like this are very weird and annoying, it also destroy relationships, the best thing advisable to do is for us to maintain our friendship without involving gambling deal in it, while when we are interested in gambling, then we may have to risk our friendship we have with other people because there will always be a trespass no matter how, but when we maintain a particular boundary, things wont cross their path at the cause of achieving what we want.

I have had money affair experiences before, and learning from it, I would let go of bet, and just be cautious of doing any business with a guy who doesn't keep his word.

Escalating things does no good imo.

Would never do that. Personally, I understand the friends I keep, and I guess they also understand me as well. Anger management is something that I believe we as humans must have. I don't think I have any present relationship with someone who does not have what it takes to manage his/her anger.

I think both of them are at fault. The guy who caused the damage is at fault because he failed to manage his anger, while the other guy that happens to be the victim is also at fault because the friend he his keeping has anger issues. IMO.

If a friend knows that they won't honor the said bets if they lose, why then bet with a friend? It is very stupid and unwise for anyone to have a bet with their friend and later not honor it. It's better not to bet than to test the patience and temperament of your friend because not everyone can let go of their bet wins for friendship to reign.

The guy who didn't fulfill his bet promises to his friend is at fault. He would have respected himself rather than betting with his friend. These issues wouldn't have arisen, if he had done that in the first place

It is really not that serious and friendship should be more than this. If a friend owes you money and you loose a bet to them and refuse paying, they will understand and probably just do the mathematics in their mind. If you have a bet with a friend and want to make sure that it is honored, get a third party to act as escrow so even when anybody looses, there will be no excuse or reason not to pay up.

Destroying property over a friendly bet? I don't know about you but where I am from, that is not something normal friends do. Yeah, maybe there can be some disappointment for one party causing some little rift in the friendship but it doesn't come to a point where it has to get physical.

the same reason we all bet: we hope that we are going to win obviously the friend was going to honor the bet only if he had won but since he lost he didn’t want to honor the bet anymore i honestly have a lot of friends that are sore losers but i don’t take it seriously nor personally so maybe this person i knew thought that his friend will do the same lol

maybe also it depends on level of friendship i mean i wouldn’t get that angry with a close friend we’ll probably just laugh about it or i will annoy them until they give me my winnings

do you ever see yourself ruining a friendship if your friend didn’t honor said bet? or it’s really not that serious? who is at fault here, the friend who didn’t push through the bet because he lost? or the friend who got angry?

There’s no reason he would smash his car over a small friendly bet. There must have been something significant that triggered his friend to do that. I don’t think a minor bet could cause such an extreme reaction. Personally, I’ve bet with friends before, but nothing like this has ever happened.

If a friend refuses to pay his friend after losing a bet, it is natural that that friend will be angry with him. This can cause quarrels or discord in friendship. If he didn't have enough money, he shouldn't have placed the bet. Again, since he has placed a bet by mistake, he should inform his friend that he does not have enough money or that he has made a mistake. Although money is not an issue among friends but instant excitement can lead to many untoward incidents. In this regard the person who loses the bet and fails to pay is entirely his own fault.

I witness friendship ruined over something they didn't even bet money on. There are just very sensitive discussions that friendship is not valued when it comes to their stance over political candidates.

Friendship tainted over sports betting is not rare anymore. There have been instances reported on TV where person stab the other for not paying the bet. Sad to see that life can sometimes just worth $1.  ;D

Maybe it is because the money involved is not a small amount of money. But why the bet when both of them do not go have a mediator. What is called bet is when two or more people agreed to give someone money to make guesses on an outcome so that anyone that guess right will take the money. Betting will have terms and conditions. They did not bet at all but make promises. Someone can fail to fulfill a promise, unlike bet which is different. If small or huge amount of money is promised, it is not a bet.
