With Ethereum Blockchain and smart contract, it's gaining a lot of recognition and popularity.  However the popularity and market of the crypto currencies is dependent on Bitcoin.
So if Bitcoin increases in value and market volume; it impacts other coins like Ethereum.
Therefore it is very likely that Bitcoin will remain in its current position.

Remember bitcoin can be adopted by the majority of companies or everyone become alternative payment transaction system in the internet. Ethereum was offering different thing because with smartcontract and you will able to build your own dapps in the ethereum platform itself. Both will be valuable in the future. I prefer to invest in ethereum for short-term and long-term for bitcoin

Not sure about future, but at the moment I see many problems in bitcoin blockchain. I prefer Eth as there are more number of miners now.
