Who gives Karma?

I have observed most users in this forum having greater number of karmas, positive karmas while others also have negative karmas.
I come to understand that the positive karma is obtained from posts/comments that are being found interesting, educative and resourceful and users merit this karma in accordance to the post made.
On the other hand is the negative karma which is also obtained by most users too either because of low quality post, spam or some other reasons.

Now I will like to know,
Who gives this karmas (both positive and negative)?
Is it all members in this forum that is entitled to giving karma?
And can a user give karma to himself?

Yes, any member with Sr. Member rank above can give both negative and positive karma and they have the right to do it. Once they abused it, -karma will be given.

And no, you can't give karma to yourself. There's no button shown on your own posts and to your profile in dms.

Only sr member and above rank can provide Karma to others and you can't give Karma to yourself. President and Admin can give more than one Karma at a time while all the other users can give one Karma to a profile and they have to wait for another 10 hours to give the next one.

Any user from the forum can give karma either negative or positive from senior member rank. The admin can give a lot of karma instantly but other members can’t do so.  Positive karma are giving when make an informative post that will benefits the users in the forum. While, negative karma are given when user abuses karma or disobey the rules and regulations of the forum.
Normal users can give negative karma too not only the admin can do that once you see any users not abiding by the rules then negative karma can be given.
 Members can’t give karma to them selfs if they can give karma to themselves then the karma will be abused very quickly. A lot of users will give themselves a lot of karma even if the post or comment ain’t worth karma they will give themselves, so it good as the rules stand that no users can give themselves karma either positive or negative.

Op, I was not exited to see you asking this question because when I looked at your profile, you are not a baby steps or newbie but a Sr. Rank Member in the forum then what marveled me the most is, you are not a teleported member but someone who opened account in the forum and grow the account to Sr. Member and you are asking such question. You didn't try for this question and even at that this the same question when we came here for the first time early this year, many users asked and it has been discussed many times. And if you were reading comments, either in For Beginners or Forum Related boards, you would seen many of these threads and see the answer.

That is why we should use the forum search engine (bar) or search any information about the forum from Google Search Engine. Always represent your rank.

OP's question seems very unrealistic. A Sr member shouldn't be asking this kind of question, at least not related to this forum. He should be aware of at least the basics, karma, activity, badges and stuff..! Of course, if he was a teleported member, his question would be justifiable/reasonable. I am a Sr and I lack a lot of information regarding this forum since I teleported here. But he didn't!

The funny part is, the Op is not a teleported member and if he was a teleported member, that would have been a different case because as someone who is coming from another platform to this forum will like to know somethings and that happens to most of us when we first came to this forum. But in this case the Op grew up from this forum to a Sr. Member Rank yet he is asking who gives karma. It is really surprising me.

I am suspecting that the account has changed hand and not the original owner is handling the account again.

If you're a senior member rank and above, you can be able to give karma to any one, the karma may be positive or negative one depending on the condition that warrant for it being a positive or or negative one, when we make posts, we receive karma on it base on the readers interest on the content of what we have written, but when we post what is not meaningful and phishy, we may receive a negative karma on that, any member can choose to give a karma if he so wishes.

Only senior members can give positive and negative karma. In order to give karma you have to rank up to senior member. No a user cannot give karma to himself that's not allowed in the system. If I like your post and your idea I will certainly give you karma but my mentality is not to give negative karma to anyone until someone is posting bad posts and even after warnings they don't care.

Anyone can give you negative karma and you won't even know and if you think someone is giving you negative karma on purpose you can open a case with admin and if he finds it interesting he will look into it and solve your problem. Karma spamming can easily be detected by the admin so don't do that either.

It is only logical that a member cannot give karma to themselves, it is other users that would read your post, and if it is educative, interesting or simply of a good quality, they will give you +karma. It is recommended that users in this forum don't think too much about +karma, just make quality posts and do not spam, and others will give you +karma.

There are a number of similar questions about karma in this forum, and I'm pretty sure you've seen one of it before, so try to search if the topic has been posted before to avoid posting the same thing twice.
Karma can only be given by users who are senior members and above, and they are not allowed to give more than one to a single user at once. Only moderators, are able give lots of karma at once to users.

How do you think this is going to happen? Doesn't it seem like a cheat to you? Those who have greater karma have earned it by valid contributions, and you're already a senior member, don't misuse karma to avoid punishment.

Unfortunately, there are users of the forum (and not only this one) who never read anything related to the forum itself because they are simply not interested in it - which eventually leads them to ask questions like this or get into trouble because they don't know the rules of the forum.

However, it is never too late to learn something new, even if it is with a great delay.

I think we actually said the same thing, except I was trying to be subtle with my words, although you're actually absolutely right. It's sad to see how some users have no idea about the rules of the forum, or that they only ask things like that to increase the total number of posts. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate when this is the case, but I suppose that a user with a certain rank should already know the rules perfectly.

Most of us almost forget to appreciate the efforts and post of the member and they might be doing the same in life. I always try my best to give karma to everyone who deserves it but I might miss some spots. As human mistakes can happen. Creating useful posts is a good advice to OP and if he followed it not to fish karma he will get karma.

Anyone should not fish for Karma only while making posts because this will change the purpose and the qualit of the post too. As you said just make quality posts and forget about karma people will give karma once they saw you more than once. OP is making many posts and he had created many topics even.
