Who gives Karma?

Actually most people follow interesting and educational posts while giving karma because everyone supports good work. But most of the people receive positive karma here and very few people give negative karma. Because those who are here are very old members and many have teleported from btt due to which everyone knows the rules of the forum. As per the rules of this forum only members above sr member are allowed to give karma to anyone. I have commented on many such posts several times but most of the members are asking similar questions.

Anyone can give karma to each other, once you have taken note of the way and pattern the person involved in using to give a quality contribution to the forum, then you can make it a duty to give karma in appreciation to what he has done, same way others can give you also the same karma when you're making a quality post, but we shouldn't forget that using karma is not by force and should not be abused.

Any user can give out karma either positive or negative. When you see a users post and you’re able to see on the left hand side beneath their usernames, the positive and negative karma button, then it is very obvious that such user can give either positive or negative karma. I only joined the forum as an Hero Member, so I can’t tell if newbies may have such features of giving positive and negative karma on their profiles. About users giving karma to themselves, it is never possible because you can’t see any option like that on your profile. It is even going to be absurd if something like that happens, so I don’t see any reason why it will be so.

I have observed most users in this forum having greater number of karmas, positive karmas while others also have negative karmas.
I come to understand that the positive karma is obtained from posts/comments that are being found interesting, educative and resourceful and users merit this karma in accordance to the post made.
On the other hand is the negative karma which is also obtained by most users too either because of low quality post, spam or some other reasons.

Anyone can give karma unless they should rank senior at least CMIIW. Speaking of on what basis a member gives karma to another is totally based on the quality of the post and yeah, some might be obsessed with giving someone positive or negative karma, but that can be abusive in many ways.

A person cannot give karma himself, and all members, once eligible, can give karma and either negative or positive. However, the negative karma is mostly given to spammers and those who are not liked by someone. By like, I mean if they don't like their idea of the post and find it spamming and targetting etc.

Good that you clarified that, i am sure some people use negative karma to attack people who they do not like personally, which is very wrong. If someone does not agree with you or share your idea, it is not a reason to give them a negative karma, i know that so many of us know this already, but there are still those who do not.

Precisely because of what you said, Karma logs are not public. There are users who do not understand the difference when using Karma between a difference of ideas, which is normal and positive, and "punishing" a user who does not act correctly in the forum. If everyone understood and applied these differences there would be no problem making the logs public, but unfortunately that is not the case.

It's okay if someone gives negative karma to anyone else even in a abusive way because at some time the abuse will be reported once noticed by the recipients, and they can easily open a case with admin and once admin will look into the case he can take their ability to give positive or negative karma. That will feels like they had not grown after sr rank.

TBH I rarely see such cases when a person is receiving negative karma on regular basis or after same intervals and did not get what he deserved back, actually there are many ways to get positive karma in bulk too. But they don't matter that much so.

Yeah, very well said, but it is almost impossible for everyone to apply these differences, so it is safe to say that karma logs may never be public. If it was public, some people who even got genuine negative karma, i.e. for spamming, may even end up sending retaliatory negative karma for that reason only.

If you can know how to get a quality post and identify one if you see it, then you're up to the senior rank upwards, then you can give a karma, but we should not be biased or selfish about it, we have to give it as the same way we may want others to give on us, don't give a wrong karma on someones else post because of your personal dispute with such user, it is not good because that same law of karma may hunt you back later.

It is good to always remind people about this, because i know there are people who do it, they give negative karma to people they disagree with, not because the person is a spammer or a shitposter, but because they do not agree with the person. If people don't abuse karma, then the system will work as expected.

I'm actually surprised that a Sr. Member is asking who gives karma and who can give it to whom. And also asking that can he give himself karma. I wouldn't be surprised if the question came from a teleported Sr. Member.
However, you may not know. Karma can only be given by senior members and one can never give karma to oneself.

Well, I think this thread has had enough coverage to set the record straight on who can give Karma. Something that a user like the OP with his current rank should have known for quite some time.
