It's not a pragmatic approach for an advertiser to promote a brand with someone that is disliked by fans. Conor McGregor for example promoted a casino Duelbits early this year. But seem to be drunk every time he make a livestream.

He was scheduled to fight with Chandler but few weeks before the fight, he posted on x about his pinky was injured and fight was cancelled. Rescheduled again and then cancelled. I don't think a sponsor liked what he did.
I don’t know much about Conor McGregor or is relationship with his fans, but I can say that even if so many people hate him, you’ll still have so many people who still adore him and like to talk about him, even if they’re mostly not saying nice things about him, the fact still remains that most of his fans still love him and that’s why he’s still famous, and I think that’s what some sponsors are really looking for.

He still have lots of fans though. He's a rare specie. He been a real fighter since until his leg broke and never fought again. All he does is just annoy people in UFC because it's what made him famous in the first place.

But I don't think he gained anything from them on. Rumor was that he asked too much from UFC CEO to fight once again but the CEO declined the proposal. I don't think any sponsor now is interested to him.

That explains why I don’t know the dude, I don’t follow up UFC events that much, and I barely know their fighters, I’m more interested in Boxing.

Still, even if he’s no more as famous as he used to be because he sustained an injury and stopped fighting, I believe there’ll still be sponsors who’d still need his publicity, regardless of the public’s perception towards him, the fact that people still knows and talks about him means that he’s still in the spotlight and that’s exactly what sponsors need.

Conor still popular, he's even interested to run for president in Ireland. He was ridiculed in X for his campaign will be supported by a more radical IRA. Actually the Irish men supported him until authorities pay a visit on his home.

I'm also a boxing fan myself. Let's say Canelo does have more sponsors today but once he is defeated by a coming younger boxer like Benavidez, his sponsors will gradually exit the contract too.

Draftsking may not be on his side soon. But Hennesy the popular Mexican beer may still be with him too. Those usualy sponsors on combat sports will stay with him such as Everlast and Under Armour unless he retires already.
The usual sponsors of the sports like provider of gloves and sportswear stays even when the athlete is old as Iron Mike.

It’s true that when it comes to combat or fighting sports, sponsorship can be fleeting and the likes of Canelo Alvarez are not excluded or immune to this fact. Whenever a well known or undisputed champion or fighter suffers a significant loss or start experiencing a decline in their performance, the sponsors on the other end may decide to reevaluate their contract with the fighter and sometimes the need may arise to even exit the contract.

Although, this isn’t always the case for all sponsors, as some sponsors tend to stay loyal and stick to the contract regardless of recent outcomes. For example, Brands such as Everlast and Under Armour who are deeply ingrained in the sport may decide to still maintain their relationship with the fighter, even when the fighters may have passed their prime and may not be able to still perform as efficiently as they used to before.
