Yellow icon under the profile, what's it for?

I am talking about this one, I can't seem to recall the purpose of this.

I know it's not some kind of badge like the red (circle) that is given for spammers and also admin mentioned it somewhere that it's not a bad thing so managers can hire the users but I just want to know what's this is for.

Absolutely, you are correct the yellow badge sign is not for spammers or low quality posters , the dot is not for any offenders but it a symbol for moderators on local boards. They are sign to identify  local board moderators that the use of the badge. So when ever you see any yellow sign just know it for local boards moderators.

Upon reading the thread you mentioned, I found it belongs to a group of users not specifically for the local mods or atleast that's the explanation given from the forum users who were here since the beginning.

So I just leave this open in case if admin or someone who knows the answer to reply.

@Findingnemo, I don't think you will get a better explanation than the one you read on the link you quoted. The situation is pretty clear to me from the post written by @Jokers.

It is not a big secret, so I don't think that the problem has security reasons. The yellow square is used for some groups which don't have any own badge (admin said that there are plans to revoke this yellow square in the future), and the number of these groups is not constant: some group can be added, some can be deleted. As this yellow square doesn't have any specific meaning, there's no need in mentioning all possible groups which can have it.

By the way, among other things I'm a local mod and I don't have the yellow square badge, so it doesn't say anything specific anyhow. Just don't pay too much attention to it.

I guess maybe you just glance through the thread, take your time and read the thread more carefully you will find some interesting and reliable answers and more to it there are some interesting links on the thread refereed by other users which are more helpful and more relevant to this topic. I guess @admin will have better and much explanation about this and his explanation will be much appreciated since you didn’t understand my point.

All the local moderators have this badge which means it is a local moderator badge if we see someone having this badge then that member must be a local moderator but many other members also had this badge I don't know the names but many members had this badge and they were not moderators.

They were even newbies and they had this badge. I think its totally random and not a big problem for admin that's why he is not getting rid of it.

I do indeed approve this message +1. As stated in the recently locked thread:

The fact that some mods, even global mods, have this is otherwise nothing more than poor house-keeping coincidence

I get the impression that this will be a reoccurring question posed until the square is removed. Which is all the more reason to remove it.

As an update, admin has now removed the yellow square for mods and newly teleported.

It remains only for under review and inactive/rebound email accounts, and is a default icon as opposed to a badge.
