Holiday Spending.
« on: December 14, 2024, 11:31:50 PM »
The holiday is usually a time where a lot of money is spent quickly out of budget because there is a popular saying that I’ve heard that December has no budget which means that budgeting in December is actually not useful, but I do not agree.

What plans have you made to ensure that you do not overspend in this holiday season??

What plans have you made to ensure that you do not overspend in this holiday season??
For years, what we're doing is that, since we are living on a family house, At the start of December, we are talking about the possible foods that we will be cooking during the holiday season and when all is done, we will now divide all of the expenses with one another and whatever happens, we will stick to that expense.

As for myself though and the things that I want to buy during the holiday season, I allocate a portion of my monthly salary to buy something for myself and this time, it's Pokemon Cards. I want to allocate some of my salary to buy some Pokemon cards. :D

I personally do not have holiday season therefore I do not spend more than what I needed though I spent for family only but it is all enough and I prioritize needs rather than wants. I don't even celebrate my birthday, fiesta and other stuff that is not important for survival. I am just a boring type of guy that live simple life peacefully. But maybe if I have extra money of course paying my parents debt would be my first target then next an upgrade for my mobile phone as this is my only tool to make few dollars online.

Well Christmas can be a very expensive time of year for families. This year because all of my immediate family own Bitcoin I will be sending Satoshis to their addresses instead of buying silly presents.

I only spend as much money as I do actually have in bank account — I don't have credit cards, I don't have loans to have the illusion that I have more money than I actually do.

I like to think this helps me with overspending.

You and I are in the same situation. I don't spend on holidays because my family's needs are my top priority. Their happiness matters most to me. I always stick to my budget and avoid overspending, regardless of the occasion. My main concern is ensuring my family's daily survival. I'm cautious about spending, as I'm unsure what the future holds. Given our current situation, it's essential to be frugal and save for the future.

Not much plans made here ;D I mean I already set like a ceiling amount in my mind but anything goes on holidays. I find it much better to save up for this occasion and not worry too much about your pockets. You'll most likely just end up stressed if you keep reminding yourself every time you spend.

There is no lie about it, many of the people spend more during the holiday season than normal days, but when we have a desiring plan over what we are going spend our money on, we may not go beyond the budget, everything has to depend on how effective our planning and budget strategies are, as well as the needs we have from the wants, because not all the people can differentiate them under scale of preference.

Its not really that bad on trying out to reward yourself in the end of each year on which buying up something for yourself but as long it is really that inside your budget then i dont see any issues. People do usually that focusing up too much about the price on which we know that we cant be able to measure the happiness that we can have on the moment that we have bought something on which its not bad. Some people are really that skipping out holiday season because they do really love on investing on crypto or any investment before anything else on which it isnt bad also.

I tend to be careful with my budget to avoid overspending this Christmas. I usually limit how much I want to spend on gifts, food, and decorations. I also try to buy stuff when there's a sale or discount. Sometimes, I make DIY gifts to make it simpler and cheaper. It helps me stay on track and enjoy the holidays without stressing about money.

There is no special plan but we must always stick with our allocation for holiday. If we can discipline to stick with our allocation, I think there will be no problem in December holiday. Sure, sometimes we may spend more money for urgent needs but I think it doesn't include to the allocation for holiday. However, I believe everyone has their own way to limit their spending. I'm sure we can avoid overspend if we can try to discipline.

I usually allocate a budget for important holidays (where I need to spend some budget to help my family with the celebration) months ahead. In fact, I never buy expensive stuff on holidays. I bought my PC a few years ago with no discount at all, though the market is not as expensive as it is today. I have regular stores that usually offer discounts outside of holidays too so there's no urgency to buy whenever there's a big holiday there. Sure, I might save more if I wait for a big holiday, but I can't do that for important stuff, like when my phone broke.

Experience is the best teacher; someone who has been through hardship due to holiday spending will learn not to be carried away by the season and save. Part of the reason January appears to be long and difficult is due to unguided holiday spending tied to the seasonal celebration.

Reservations are necessary for anyone who wants to avoid starving himself and his family after the holidays. The conventional saying that "December has no budget," as mentioned by the OP, should not be a guideline for anyone, especially those who rely on a salary or do not have much. Keep in mind the bills that comes in January and be guided.

Sure, sometimes we may spend more money for urgent needs but I think it doesn't include to the allocation for holiday. However, I believe everyone has their own way to limit their spending. I'm sure we can avoid overspend if we can try to discipline.
maybe someone could spend a little more during the holidays if they can afford it its the holidays after all and it’s supposed to be a festive season but unfortunately not all of us can afford to do that as sad as it is we need to control ourselves still and not try to spend more than what we can because it will not end well let’s try to be happy in our own ways during the holidays no need to be always luxurious
