As a gambler can you help your parents do this?

Gambling is no longer a secret, every street or neighborhood you go to, you find lots of offline betting shops of different companies, infact betting shops are now competing with the number of churches around.

Gambling is now seen as something that is normal. We have seen cases where parents buy phones and ask their children to help them install some applications like whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram.

The trend made me curious to ask if as a child you can help your parents install betting apps on their phone.

majority parents are into gambling more than the young one's,back then when i use to go to betshop to place my bets i see different parents coming there to book also,so if the parent plays bet the child can as well help to download it for them.

If you don't install it for them and it is something that they have fixed their mind to have installed, they are mature enough to find a way around it; probably get someone to have it installed for them. If your parents demand to have a gambling application installed on their phones, they are adults, and you just need to make sure that they really understand what they are getting into. Some of our parents are old-time gamblers, maybe when they were younger. You will be surprised that you may even have a better experience with some casino games than you do.

I mean I don't really care about what other people do with their lives including parents, so I would have them gambling app installed if they want to, I would probably caution them beforehand though about ill effects of gambling and then they can do as they please.

If your parents didn't care about you, intimes of the friends you keep, you going out and coming in, invest in your education probably you wouldn't be were you are today. Learn to care about loved ones

Whereas gambling is an individual thing,  something that one determines on his or her own. But it is morally discouraging for a child to install such money sucking applications on his parents phone.  Rather the child should encourage his parents to avoid anything that can bring losses or questionable activities on their phones.

I will not download the application on my parents' cellphone, because by downloading the application directly I allow my parents to gamble online, curiosity at first but it ends in addiction, as we know parents who are new to technology will find it difficult to control their curiosity

I think this will also be situational, because we also have to see the background of why they asked. And as children we should already know what their activities are like and that will be a consideration for us to install it or not.

But I will definitely observe my father's gambling very carefully. Is he an addicted gambler or is he gambling just for temporary pleasure? Personally, I feel it’s ridiculous for someone to tell another person to help them install a gambling app on their phone, because it only shows that they know very little about gambling and for someone who knows very little about gambling, the outcome could be disastrous for them and things may not end really well, we already know how risky gambling can be for those who do not really know much about it, or those who may know know how to adequately manage their emotions, they may end up losing more than they initially intended to.

If it were to be my parents who’s requesting me to help them download a gambling app, honestly, I’ll assume that they don’t know a thing about gambling and I’d blatantly ignore the request.

But you have to tell them that they don't want to be addicted gamblers are they are going to lose their money in the end. Just a warning for them to just play what they afford to lose and just enjoy it simply at that.

However, if you noticed that they are asking for money, then you need to do something here, in my opinion.

Everyone understands the danger of gambling addiction but it's difficult trying not to be an addict. I think prevention is always better than cure

Why not? Does it mean when someone becomes old, their children disallow them to gambling.

As far as I can tell, I can help my parents to have a betting app in their phone. What I can only do to them is to advice them that gambling is fun, they shouldn't pursue their losses and they should always gamble with little amount they can afford to lose

Doing what parents want properly out of respect back means a lot as a form of affection provided we keep in mind issues which may have an impact on parents. If one of them involves oneself with a certain activity for instance, gambling, constant watch without the ability to judge is a good step needed to ensure the activity turns into something bad. There also could be a constant concern, accompanied by an attentive body language, in case the help is required, it could be offered at any time. One may decide to overtly show this by sometimes letting them go their ways of doing things, but at the same time oversee things that may be dangerous as how a kid shows care to their parent by being responsible.

Yes, i would help them install betting apps if they request me to do so and i don't mind them if they gamble because they are my parents and they know what they do and besides the money that they gamble is theirs so i have nothing to do with it.

Honest opinion you have here but I think our opinions differ significantly. I personally won't help them bacause I help I have a responsibility to protect loved ones when I can and every way I can.

I think you are getting it wrong, not all people know how to operate an Android phone or are technologically inclined, have you not been in a situation before when an elderly person meets you to help them check or set some features on their phone?  Sometimes things of this nature happen and one would have no option but to assist them in fixing it up.

The person might be good at gambling but does not have the technical knowledge on how to operate an Android phone and would need you to help them but when it comes to gambling works, they would sit you down and begin to educate or tell you things to your greatest surprise on their experience and all they have done with gambling activities. I think it's just like you are having a sound knowledge of something which is being integrated into a sophisticated device and you do not know how to operate the device and you have no option than sourcing for who will help you operate the device while you tell them what to do till you get acquainted on how to operate the device.

It's hard to say no, because it positions me as a gambler too... at least after doing the installation we can give advice so that our parents don't spend too much money on gambling... no matter what, he is also our family... we can't refuse to help him, right? From my point of view, it should be as you said. I gamble or not, but if my father asks me to install a gambling app, I will be a little surprised, but I will definitely install it and try to highlight its negative aspects.
