will north korea accept bitcoin?
« on: January 03, 2025, 08:38:25 AM »
so much of our discussions here revolve around different countries fully accepting bitcoin or different countries not accepting bitcoin and being strict with their citizens when it comes to crypto a lot of us can't understand why they won't integrate crypto into their economy when it has been proven that it does give off major benefits

i realized that a lot of us probably do not take into consideration the cultural and political aspects of a country which i believe are major factors when it comes to a country deciding whether they should accept bitcoin or not

for example no one expects north korea to adopt bitcoin north korea is a communist state under a dictatorship it would be crazy if they accepted bitcoin which will give people the financial freedom they probably crave so with this in mind we can already tell which ones are most likely to adopt bitcoin and which ones would not

usa calls themselves the land of the free which coincides with accepting bitcoin that is decentralized and does give freedom to people

The Lazarus group are allegedly connected or run by the North Korean Government. If that were true, there's no need to adopt bitcoin because they've already accumulated a lot through hacking. It's more than enough to help their economy.

The USA as the land of the free doesn't mean they are also the land of decentralization. While it's true that they've made investing/trading btc much easier now, they are still hard on regulating cryptocurrency transaction. I also remember reading about a failed attempt in Europe to control the Bitcoin network and who knows if the USA had a hand in that too.

There was an Eth developer years ago that was arrested after he visited North Korea because US suspected he taught Kim the dictator to launder money through Ethereum Network.

I'm not sure how the Eth dev case ended. I don't think North Korea will adopt BTC. It will be the end of Kim. But could it be that only his government will accumulate BTC for the purpose of economic advantage so they could make an exchange in the international trade?

I think North Korea will accept Bitcoin because of it's decentralization which means no one can control it even the mighty America whom most opposing countries will suffer devastating sanctions. Bitcoin would be the most effective and most valuable asset a communist government can acquire if they wanted full control of their funds but if not then maybe they go with BRICS or another currency that they think can hurt dollar.

Personally I don't see North Korea accepting crypto currency especially Bitcoin because north Korea has strict rules and regulations that they give to their citizens infact one of the strongest country that I have seen is north Korea because north Korea citizens didn't even watch TV stations apart from their countries TV so the probability of north Korea accepting Bitcoin which is accepted by the United States of America a country that North Korea considers it enemy will be difficult
Because everything will depends on the countries leaders because the country does what ever he considers good and for so long north Korea has isolated their citizens from the rest of the world so when it comes to the issue of Bitcoin it's not going to be different

Lol, North Korea accepting Bitcoin.

Jeans, yeah jeans are banned in NK, high heels are banned, and anyone would think they would let their population have a decentralized currency they can't control. In a country where you can't send money abroad without a special permit by the state that requires each transfer to be approved, they will suddenly let loose crypto so everyone can do whatever they want.

Next on the list, it's a pride parade in Teheran!

if you are talking about Virgil Griffith then he is to serve 5 years and a couple more months imprisoned and to pay a fine of $100,000 the crime he was guilty of actually required 20 years in prison but he was able to plead and reduce his sentence he was arrested in 2019 so i wonder where he is now 6 years later

no just like i said if there was a way for kim to control the entire bitcoin network then maybe but we know that its impossible for just one person or one entity to control and have access to the entire bitcoin network

Yes that Virgil brave the force and laid the price. There was no update about him anymore, anything about his business with Kim wasn't revealed tot he public.

I don't mean Kim controlling BTC network. He could just be anything Bukele. Just a country leader who will be stacking BTC for he knows BTC maybe the only way North Korea not be isolated.

North Korea is a strange country so the probability of accepting Bitcoin in North Korea will be low it will all depends on the countries leaders to decides that because north Korea is a country that doesn't want to open their borders for the rest of the world to interact and Bitcoin is one key thing that really will allow the citizens to interact with the rest of the world so kim will likely not accept that things are even worse now that the United States has openly supported bitcoin because Kim sees anything that the United States of America supports to be an enemy of north Korea so maybe in the future north Korea can accept Bitcoin but not now

With what you have stated to be true, there must be a hiding agenda from the government of North Korea that wants to use Bitcoin, because they can't deny their citizens common normal things to have, to begin to let them have Bitcoin freely, when there are others they are being denied from what that can't cause harm to them but due to it's English pattern of life, their citizens were given strict order not to dress like Americans or act like them.

A country's government that does such to their citizens is it Bitcoin they will make legally for their citizens to trade

They can't deny? Lol! Yes, they can deny everything to their people!
You know there list of things banned in NK? First is the internet, how in the name of god will they allow Bitcoin when they don't allow free internet?

A country's government that does such to their citizens is it Bitcoin they will make legally for their citizens to trade

Trade crypto?
Bruh, in NK you're not allowed to trade currencies, trade stocks, there are no foreign currencies, there are not stocks, you're not even allowed to sell stuff without a special permit and you think they will allow crypto trading? Lol!!!!!

North Korea will be the last country in the world if they ever accept a decentralized monetary system as their legal tender because they don't even consider their people as humans but rather a slaves and their only fate is to worship the leader and work as much as they have to. It is not a country, it is the land of control.

Not only North Korea for example China is actively buying as much as bitcoin as they can but they discourage any crypto related activities including trading in their mainland.

North Korea has government-approved hackers, like all things that run in NK, they are employed by the government, and they are getting paid a military wage and that's all, they work for the government and their only job is to target crypto exchanges, and drain them of crypto after which other mules employed by the same government use that crypto to purchase goods in neighboring countries that are then smuggled back to the capital.
Its closest resemblance is privateers from the 17-19 century.
