I am not married and I don't even have a Gf sadly so all money belong to me except I have parents and siblings and at the moment I want to do something for them so if I would have $1 million I will do a lot of things but retiring will not be on that list because at some point we will realize $1 million is also not enough to survive in the inflationary country where I live due to the taxes and high cost of things.
When you are still truly single, then increase your savings for the future, especially after getting married. There will be a lot of needs that must be paid for, primary, secondary, tertiary needs, and others will be there. especially when you already have children, now everything is expensive, even education costs are quite expensive if you want to send your child to a fairly good school and not a public school. Yes, not to mention pocket money, milk, and other needs.
If you have prepared carefully and have a lot of savings, then life will be easier when you have a family, at least it doesn't make your wife struggle from a minus. Moreover, there will be demands from the family, to build a house for the small family later and so on, health money, and of course for investment too.
As for how much, hmm, as much as possible, and create passive income. sometimes it's tiring to have to take care of the household but still work too.
