Since the importance of education is immense if they can go up to a degree by studying in the university, then it is possible to get a good job and it can be a higher job. There are many types of efficiency from outside life in the university. There are many students in my country who play a role in various career during the university. Moreover, you can also gain different skills while in university. So everyone is wasted a few years in the university for thinking that the future will give your degree a big job.

Nobody knows where the destiny of these children loes in. Maybe, it's going to school or learning skill. This is why it is important for you to allow them habe both so that their opportunities will be bigger in securing a good job. Have you imgaine going to school and learning a skill. At the end of the day, you got a job through your skill, and when you were asked of your qualifications, you presented your university qualifications together with that of your skill.

I don't care what anyone would says, my children will go to schools, complete their studies and go for any mandatory practices the country requires them but I wouldn't stop them from having skills with their studies. I am not sure if people understand how school expose you about life and other opportunities you will never have as a person who is not a student, you will get advantage before an ordinary person is called even with their skills.

The thing is that skills is highly appreciated in places where you finish schools and don't have job available for you, this is where skills are much appreciated but if you look higher, school opportunities and studies can put you in places you have never dream about.

education is very important and plays a critical role in the life of an individual but I will not  agree with you on your point that you made that there are things that you can't achieve aside of school if you are referring to academic qualifications and certificate it will be true but when it comes to life your success is not dependent on school. Infact a secondary education is enough for any to succeed in life because the truth of the matter is that the world is moving from certificate to skill so if your child decides that he wants to stop at the secondary school level and go and learn a trade or skill it should be encouraged because there are allot of people we have seen that succeed outside of school

In present day Nigeria so many graduates are whereas Nigerians with skills are able to battle and face the present economic reality. I have seen regrets lament that they would have learnt a skill instead of wasting five years in the university.

I cannot allow my kids to to the mistakes that I made which is not learning a skill. With the way the country is today going to the university is totally a waste of time, money, resources etc. Imagine a First Class graduate in the street driving bike and keke, it just doesn't make sense, if that First Class graduate had channeled that energy used in school into learning a skill he would even have become one of the big guns in the society.
There is no good jobs anywhere, even if you meet the qualifications you may not be given the job because it is meant for the uneducated brother of the Managing Director of the company, so why waste all those money and time in school where there is a better and more reliable way which is learning a skill.

In my own point of view as a parent, I will like my kids to acquire skills before going to the university. Probably, the skill learnt before university might be of help during the school years.
Secondly, if there is no job after graduation, the kid will start making money from the skill without being a burden to the family or society.

to be fair if you invest so much of your money, time and effort into attending university you have every right to expect to land a white collar job because a lot of what you can learn in university can help you prepare for those kind of jobs

there are also schools where you can learn about blue collar jobs which usually takes lesser time, and lesser money

Yeah and some of them might actually pay more or the same amount but with less time on the job. I've seen people with those two-year or less short courses that ended up quite successful. I guess that in addition to the skills learned, they were also able to build a good connection with customers.

Based on the question from the topic on the thread, I think op you already know the best answer to the question.
Actually if you would ask me personally, I would say that the both are good, but as a parent you should ensure to enroll your child/children to learn skills while they are still in secondary school because after those days it might be difficult for them to learn any skill of their choice.
However, my point is that the both are good and students should at least have 2 skills before going to the university because they can even use it to sustain themselves before their parents send money for them. At least with their skills they can afford to buy somethings for themselves.

Degrees are very important to everybody but in terms of knowing when it should be acquired or schooling instead, I think it depends on the time or how the person configure themselves towards it because I believe the two are reachable at the same time, someone could keep the learning of the skills during the time of long resting from the school then use the rest holiday to acquire it, though it might consume the whole of their time but is worth it because the two dreams are working in accordance.

Here in my country there is this complicated type of requirements when applying job that is why some are trying to learn a skill so they can work overseas and get a better salary though the tech industry especially BPO and Virtual Assistant has become in demand nowadays so we can also benefits from this without having a college degree as long as we have met the required skill for the job.

Ah you mean all those high standard requirements but will only offer you a minimum pay or just above it then call it a 'competitive' salary package with a promise of promotion? Yeah, the reason why those virtual assistants and BPOs are thriving is because international clients pay more as long as you can do the task efficiently. No BS screening like those paying minimum.

School certificate will only looks good in the eyes of the people that actually saw good use of it. If you go to school and have a good certificate and later earn a job, that's good for and if you don't, and later have a way to make money that doesn't involve certificates, that shouldn't be a reason to rubbish certificate just because the system didn't work for you.

I don't know what some people with jobs that are earned through certificate thinks, but if you aren't working with the government that you have a long term covered but some people that work with skills makes good amount of money than some people that are employed with their certificate, though not all gigs gives you a high paying job.
