Nollywood the Nigeria movie industry painted a very terrible picture of gamblers, in Nollywood gamblers are depicted as never do wells, men who are gamblers are depicted as drunks, cheats and thieves.

For Nollywood lovers and watchers you will agree with me that late Sam loco Efe when in character as a Gambler will always steal money from his wife, sometimes he sells her wrappers just to have  enough money to gamble and in cases where Aki and pawpaw are his children they join forces with their mother to fight him, he becomes worthless in their eyes and loose respect and control of his own family.

Not because he is into gambling, but on his character and how he treats his family, that will make me lose my respect for my father. As long as he is a good provider and he is gambling within his means, I will respect him.

Since you specifically mentioned gambling addiction, I'd say yes if he doesn't do anything to improve himself and instead does things that will negatively affect his family as portrayed in the film. I don't think it matters whether he's my dad, mother, brother, etc if they do things that make our life harder without effort to get better at all. Not even gambling, substance addiction probably can do the same thing. Any form of addiction is dangerous for the individual and their family.

They do nasty things already when they become addicts and if it embarasses the kids, they may not be able to stop what they feel about their father.

This is the burden of fathers or men, when they can't provide for their family because they instead gamble, it can turn ugly for family members. We have seen them in movies also even when their fathers are not gambling addicts but also having other wives.

Well said! The problem is not gambling itself, but rather the gambler's character. A father who neglects his responsibilities due to gambling cannot be respected. Now, imagine my reaction if I asked my father for financial assistance and he says he does not have any money, only to discover that he has been gambling and spending his salary on it. Definitely, I will respond disrespectfully.

However, if he is gambling while also fulfilling his responsibilities, I will see nothing wrong with gambling and may even believe that gambling is providing him with a lot of money, and may be prompted to ask him for a booking code or seek gambling advice from him because his actions have demonstrated that you can gamble while still shouldering your responsibilities as a father.

It was a movie and of course it was exaggerated to gain views and people will watch the movie. As for the question, no my respect for my dad will still be there as i know that my dad wasn't doing this movie portraits of a gambling addicts. He may have problem with gambling but we will see to it that it will be address so that it won't be out of control soon.

Well said! The problem is not gambling itself, but rather the gambler's character. A father who neglects his responsibilities due to gambling cannot be respected. Gambling is a personal attribute attribute so there should be no reason to you disrespecting your father for the sole purpose of him gambling so there should be no time where you should look down on your father because gambling is not a criminal act so any one engaging in gambling should not be seen as someone that has missed the way

When we lose respect for them even though we know something, then it will be worse. Because if they know our attitude has changed, then they will feel hit.

We should be able to care more about them and when it is still early we should try to handle the problem so that it does not become big later. But it also depends on the situation, because if they do not want to accept what we say and they act more arrogantly, then we also have the right to do whatever we want.

You will need to get mature to understand that some of the habits that your father exhibits are some of the struggles that men face and some of them arise from the challenges, and unfortunately, gambling is where they found solace.

Do not lose respect for your father, and if it is within your power to get him proper help, do so. He is your father and will likely do the same for you if you were the one with the problem.

If you just find out your father is a gambler addict, as addiction takes time and you're surprised then it simply means you didn't care much about him in the first place as you never saw the obvious signs out there, gambling addicts are going to leave obvious signs around them, tickets, spending time in gambling locations, money missing, talks about gambling, bragging about it, etc etc.

So rather than losing respect better ask yourself why you missed it, just like those parents that find out after 5 years their son is a junkie!

no but there is still a line that should not be crossed many gambling addicts are also drinkers and when they gamble they drink and they often go home drunk in many such cases domestic violence is caused by a drunk man if the gambling addiction made way to even more serious and dangerous problems then yes i will lose respect for him but if he is only an addiction to gambling and he also wants to get better my respect will be intact maybe even more if he asks for help
