This could lead to a massive adoption. Imagine  millions of google users being able to buy and sell crypto just with their google account.

This is probably due to Trump crypto friendly policies, to make America a big home of crypto industries.

This is good news, in my opinion, and I would be more aggressive in adopting it if I were to follow suit. It's fantastic to see those types of things in one of the most powerful countries in the world. The easier it is to use, the easier it would be to adapt, and a lot of people already have Google accounts, so just a simple app would have instant adoption. I hope that it's protected and secure.

If this rumor is true, i wonder about it's availability. Google Pay already exist since 2011, but until now it only support about 90 countries[1]. I also wonder whether they'll launch custodial wallet/service since they already own money transition license (for Google Pay) and have some experience combating scam/hack on their Google Pay user.

I think they are creating a custodial wallet/service, so the service might be good if you can add it as a balance to your wallet and pay from it, but if it is just a wallet, it might cause great harm, as it might be the beginning of forcing users to deal with the custodial wallet as a Google wallet and stop using any open source wallets like electrum.

If they are integrating google pay into a crypto wallet then definitely yes, it's probably used by billions of people so even people who have no idea of what is crypto will come to know about it's existence. Not sure they can able to implement in all the countries because different countries have different regulations so they might want to take it by region.

It would be easy if the service was custodial and only Google had access to the private key. But then it would be hard to consider it a wallet. I read some articles about it and it seems that it will be adding crypto address within Google accounts.

Although the integration of BTC wallets with Google accounts raises the issue of centralized control over data and potential vulnerabilities.

Definitely it's not something that we can recommend because it's simply against the core nature of cryptos. However it will introduce crypto assets to unknown people and then things are in their own hands about how they develop their knowledge related to crypto. I simply consider it's kind of promotional event rather the true adoption.

Yes, it has to come by region because there are many countries that are not showing interest in crypto probably due to the high potential of Bitcoin to dominate their Fiats, and actually, if this rumor becomes true it will boost cryptocurrency awareness and increase adoptions as time progresses.

And it'll be mobile wallet rather than desktop or hardware wallet, since it's what people usually have.

It is indeed a good news. But on the other hand, it might turn to be a problem to the right way of bitcoin usage but will definitely improve adoption. Just imagine how we are battling with exchanges now. Newbies use exchanges as wallets. This might get worse than being a custodial wallet. But we cannot fight much against it, because it is one of those things that accompanies mass adoption.

Google is trying to use its monopoly position and convince its users to keep their money. Their users are mostly complete noobs for any tech stuff and I see this as a serious problem in the announcement.
