If this rumor is true, i wonder about it's availability. Google Pay already exist since 2011, but until now it only support about 90 countries[1]. I also wonder whether they'll launch custodial wallet/service since they already own money transition license (for Google Pay) and have some experience combating scam/hack on their Google Pay user.

I think I have a Google Wallet (? I am not sure but I have a Google Pay account and I access it from the Google Wallet app), but trying to make it like Cash App is not really going to benefit us advanced users. It's primarily for the people who don't have exposure to crypto I think, as the rest of us can simply buy P2P and transfer to a non-custodial wallet.

Google is trying to use its monopoly position and convince its users to keep their money. Their users are mostly complete noobs for any tech stuff and I see this as a serious problem in the announcement.

Bitcoin is cheaper when you are making international transfers. Faster and cheaper than PayPal as well.

Google is very good in making friendly UX. It will make bitcoin easier to use. Who wants to know more, may use other wallets.

For years I worked as a system administrator, I don't even know how many gmail setups I made, personal or corporate. I responsibly claim that a large part of G users do not even have a clear picture of how everything works.
For example, even after xx years, some users still call me to help them with the G password. Now they will have the opportunity to store digital currencies as well. This is an excellent opportunity for scammers

Mass adoption, mass monopoly, we can call it many things, but ultimately it's like letting the wolves guard the chickens, too risky. And it's an unnecessary risk, since we have many other tools to protect our assets. When all this goes down the line, I'd like to know how many people lose their private keys, how many scams are carried out, and how many people lose their money.

This is so true. I've been trying to move my 2FA codes from a centralized app lately, and the process is tedious. If I don't have any experience losing some important accounts I think I'll just procrastinate instead of moving them asap. Luckily I don't have to repeat the same process after I moved to the new app, although I'll have a new problem of making sure my backups are safe. It's much better compared to having no control over your backup tho.

This could lead to a massive adoption. Imagine  millions of google users being able to buy and sell crypto just with their google account.

This is probably due to Trump crypto friendly policies, to make America a big home of crypto industries.

If I am not mistaking, almost all android phones used are connected to google or have a google mail account installed in it, and the people using smart phones are now going to be able to participate in the crypto market, by either buying to hold for the long run or buying and selling for a quick profit. This will foster the massive adoption of crypto currency utilization worldwide.

I won't have any doubt on that regarding Trump wanting to make America a big home of crypto industries. He made an open speech on accepting or taking crypto currencies into the US national reserve, and every other thing he will do, will be for the same purpose of accepting the use of Bitcoin, and this will be a take to other nations to follow sute.

It's true that I, for example, don't know how the VISA system works, but I don't have to worry because VISA has its own security experts who are responsible for the security of user data and funds. However, in the world of cryptocurrencies, we are the ones who must take care of and worry about that security. Therefore, the more we know and learn, the better.

I've always thought that everything we learn on our own not only makes us wiser, but also better prepares us for potential problems.

I'm not going to let G00gle take care of the security of my cryptocurrencies, I'm already there for that.

This is good news if Google is also stepping to have a google wallet integration and by adding bitcoin on it. This will open a lot of people to have an idea that even Google likes to have Bitcoin and crypto to its platform. It adds trust to those that have been so doubtful about crypto. Crypto is the future, Bitcoin is going to be the best asset in the entire history and everyone hasn't adopted it yet and when Google official launches and advertises it, a great introduction will shock the entire world.

That you like technology (just like me) is something I've been able to deduce over time by reading your posts, but not everyone understands it like we do. Yes, "big" G is a very large company with enormous capabilities, I agree, but not even such a large company is able to avoid all threats, and as an example, I will use a post I wrote a few weeks ago: Android antivirus that is really safe for cryptocurrency wallet?.

In addition, you don't use VISA itself. You use a card that your bank gives you that happens to run on the VISA network. You then enter the card information on a website you want to pay at, which then collects the money from VISA.

Actually, it is more complimented than this (the website itself usually does not collect your credit card info or talk to VISA itself but instead connects to a payment gateway that does all that itself), but the point is that you don't even see VISA being used here - it just works.

In the case of Bitcoin, you want as many wallet providers, payment merchants, and websites integrating with Bitcoin as possible so that you don't have to give ordinary people payment instructions such as "send 0.1234 BTC to this address" which is subject to social engineering, and then you want them to just use a passcode or a fingerprint to unlock the wallet on their device i.e. phone (as that's what most people are using anyway - it can just be the same as their lock screen unlock method).

Just like you have a bank account in your phone, which is there with other thousands malicious apps, you will also have a cryptocurrency wallet.

I have been using cryptocurrency wallets in my phone since 2017, I was never hacked, never lost funds.

However, I just store small amounts in my phone. My stash is in a hardware wallet.

To be honest I am quite uneasy with a monolith business organization like Google entering the crypto space and incorporating Bitcoin into its own wallet infrastructure. However, there is no doubt that this can be another milestone for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency as we know that Google is quite massive. I think I heard that they will introduce the feature of sending and receiving cryptocurrency just using the normal email address and this idea alone can be a lot since people would not anymore deal with a long and confusing wallet address. Now, we don't know when this plan will really materialized eventually but I am welcoming it as an option people can use.
