I am writing this post only to feed my infinite curiosity nothing else. 

My first questions is to the moderators of this forum. How did you guys became moderators (both global and local)? Was there any specific criteria?

My second questions is, how does one becomes mods even in 2025? Does he has to be super knowledgeable in terms of crypto? Or any other requirements?

And my last questions is, what privileges/benefit's/advantages a mods gets apart from regular users?

Can you guys share your experience/story? What's it's like to be a mod of Altcoinstalk forum?

They can issue tags/badges and can edit or delete the post and ban users too. And have access to certain boards where others can't posts.

And they must be getting paid. (not sure though)

But only a mod or admin can answer about the selection process and required criteria.

Applying to be Moderator

Mod requirements:

• Provide quality content and moderation in the general section you are moderating.
• Keep the section you are moderating free from spam and spammers etc.
• Handle the moderation reports that are submitted by users of your section.
• If Local Language Mod: Translate at least half of these Posts to your local language section & sticky them.

Please note:

• To be accepted you should be active on the forum daily and a regular poster.
  
• Acceptance is done few weeks after your application, to make sure you are active.
• You should be a Senior Member or above - some rare exceptions can apply.
• You should have no negative karma : no spam, no plagiarism etc ..

Selection process:

• Moderators are chosen by the President & Vice President (VP)
  
  • You must post your application in this thread to be considered for selection.
  • Please do not PM admin or President with your applications anymore.

Well start with I think findingNemo has actually highlighted how the application process works. Nevertheless aside from all that I think you also need to have a good reputation generally especially on your local board if you are eventually applying for a moderator for a local board.

Well as for the benefits and privileges I think it's quite obvious. Mods have some special administrative permissions like ability to nuke posts and move posts too.

At the top you will find Moderate where you can get notifications about reports, access a hidden board called For Moderators and delete/merge posts according to your moderation permissions.


Over time and with gaining trust you can become a global MOD.

I have never applied to become a moderator, but some community friends at the local Indonesian board provide support by submitting a proposal to the admin. So, in this case, in addition to applying to become a moderator in the thread, as mentioned by Findingnemo (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=230.240), you also need to get support from the community because not all who apply there can be accepted.

When I became a moderator for the first time in the past, I received a few SPRS tokens from the forum, but this time, there was no incentive.

@DYING_S0UL, as you may have read in this thread, mod "privileges" (local and global) are those of a moderator, and as mentioned, you gain access to boards that other users cannot see or access.

You don't need to be an expert in anything, but you do need to have "advanced" knowledge about cryptocurrencies and, especially, how the forum works.

Moderators are not paid, but receive additional tokens (ALTTS) when the administrator makes distributions.

From what I know and can tell, a mod in a local board is a mod and have privileges in the same board that he or she is moderating, he or she can delete, modify, move posts in the local board at will, I am not sure of him or her having the privilege to temp or Parma ban any user even in he local board, but I guess that should be possible any way, I leave a real local board mod to answer that.

Coming back the global level, I think a local board may likely not have that privilege to delete or move or modify posts in the global board, but he or she does has direct access to the mod of board to report such post to, or can report to a global mod who has access and right to delete or modify or move posts in every part and board in the forum.

Just my personal thought though.

When a moderator finds a post that needs to be moved, deleted, or edited, they report it so a global moderator can do the necessary work. The privileges of a local moderator never extend beyond the board on which he is a moderator. Only global moderators have privileges on (almost) any forum board.

Yeah, this is more like a very obvious explanation from the word of "local" and "global" for moderator's privileges.

As for the OP's last question, in my opinion it's more like contribution and not a requirement, so mods works only if available online even for not everyday. I can only say the latter if mods are paid with their works here too.

most probably yes. you won't be able to participate in the discussions with less knowledge.
but just curious as well. i have not reported anyone doing violations actually but we're all grown ups here so we see arguing normal already despite the cursing. the violations i think that is unforgivable is the ai generated contents and plagiarism. i guess its to be monitored by ai as well.

yep. being a local moderator must be the stage where you are able to prove you have fair judgement.

That's right, by starting start we can do big and only those members should consider this job who have time, I mean local mods don't have to do much, because the forum is new, they only have to report spam as much as I know, which also other good reputed members reports mostly to the mods.

But a global mod has to spend time here, listen to the matters and do the work, this requires dedicated time, so only those members should consider who are willing to do the work, and speaking of pay, if they would be getting in stable then everyone wants to be mod haha.

I'm not a moderator because of the 50 BTC the admin sends me each year, but because I enjoy supporting and contributing to this forum. Since I've been here (2020), I've seen a lot of things I've liked, and over the past year and a half (approximately), I've seen the forum grow, which is a real joy. Furthermore, the atmosphere among all users is very positive (except for some dramas that occurred in the past), and that's something I also value.

Being a moderator is sometimes not easy, due to certain decisions that must be made, but that is forgotten when we see more and more users participating in the forum actively and positively.

What I said about the 50 BTC is obviously a joke.

Haha I know it was a joke haha, as you already said in one of your previous posts on this thread, admins are rewarded with the utility token of this forum alone.

You really love this forum that much, I mean you have been here since 2020 and the reputation, the badges, and the numbers say, you are the first person here, haha, really, your dedication is appreciable but not everyone can do this, they need a hefty reward, not 50 BTC but maybe 0.0005 BTC even per month can motivate them but you know what I just realize while writing this line, the moderator work is something that should not be rewarding, I mean regular pays, because the dedication like your is what the most needed.
