What is much more interesting in my opinion is that the conclusion is drawn that despite the attempts to release him from prison, the new American administration is not quite ready to accept that idea. Some of the currently ruling politicians say that he committed one of the biggest financial frauds in the US, but if that was the case, he would probably have received much more than 25 years in prison.

You know that this is the case in actuality, and the only reason SBF didn't get a much longer sentence is because of incompetent judges to be honest.

He could have received a higher sentence, but 25 years is still a big sentence if he serves at least 2/3 of the total sentence. He could spend the best years of his life behind bars, and as things stand, most people who lost their money will get it back (some already have).

I think this photo was taken in the first prison he was in, and as you can see I don't think he's in very pleasant company. Prisons are not just about taking away your freedom to move and do whatever you want, but as you know, they are much worse than that. If you're in one of those notorious prisons, then such things are your biggest punishment, even if you're only in prison for a few months.

I totally get your point, a prison can never be comfortable for a freshie, especially those who have not done extreme crimes, or I should say brutal ones. Although I can be wrong about many things I have read many posts where people are cursing this dude, they want him to be in an extreme prison where he could suffer something like that.

Although Stompix stated in his reply that this prison is not for long-term holding, they are just moving here to move to somewhere else. I think it is like level, the first level is a bit soft, then hard and harder.

25 years in jail isn't exactly getting away with it in my own books, i know people can argue all day that he should have gotten twice that sentence. However, we are past that now, and if he does 25 years in prison, in my head right now i believe that is enough punishment for his crimes.

usually high profile criminals even if they are sentenced they will still be treated like vips especially since they will have connections even outside jail that are powerful and influential people to move things around and make it seem like 25 years would not be as bad as how others would have experienced it

It all comes down to the same thing, if we have "friends," we can spend our short stay in prison better than 99% of the population at home.

Trump and crypto have become synonymous since he re-election, however I suppose this is one of the big crypto stories that he will not get involved with (and there is zero chance of Bankman-Fried getting a pardon).

That's why some people want to go to prison, so we have a recent example from Germany where a person decided to kill a homeless man just to go to prison. It never seemed logical to me, because prison should be a humble place where you serve your sentence for what you did, not a place where you live better than when you were free.

At the moment, it does not seem that there is much chance of this happening, but towards the end of the mandate, presidents usually use the pardon mechanism much more intensively. We should not forget that SBF has filled the pockets of many politicians and influential people and that it has influential parents, therefore their lobbying will continue.

I've seen some of the prisons you mention on television, and they don't look like prisons compared to those in other countries. This proves once again that, with a certain amount of status and power, things can change a lot. I also think 25 years is a long time, but I highly doubt SBF will spend 25 years in prison. The huge financial "favors" he did during the election campaign will be a good way to secure his freedom when the time comes.

Why would anybody want to go to prison? It should be a place that you do not like going to, not a place you want to go to.

Sure, the rehabilitation programs in those countries are very effective and important, but it not be a place you want to stay in. I know that there is data backing this arrangement saying that most people don't re-offend, but you hare right about the countries wasting money on fancy prisons. They are not hotels -. In fact they should just be simple apartment rooms.

I have never doubted the power of lobbying groups. They have a lot of power and influence in the political sphere and they are usually involved in many behind-the-scenes policy making.  Some as we know are quite open about their funding of politicians and what they back them for. I am just not sure how it will affect Bankman-Fried in a positive manner but as you stated, I would not bet on it.

Back in the 90s when all of Eastern Europe was still poor and you had by no means an easy life in an overcrowded prison, there were still known people here in the neighborhood that starting autumn would steal in the open something or break a glass or door just so they could be sentenced to 3 to 6 months in prison during winter, the police knew them, the judge knew them, they just needed a guaranteed warm place and food.

That sounds like a nightmare scenario. Imagine wanting to go to prison just in order to ensure you have food and a relatively warm place to spend the nights during the winter periods. I hope those days are in the past and people that need help actually get it from the social service.

Yeah, the SBF case is getting this fair justice is basically because some politicians in the US has benefited from his financial misappropriation. They had tactically given him a soft landing, a prison sentence of less than 28years, after he was convicted of a huge financial crime that shouldn't have been less than fifty years.
In addition, I don't think that SBF received less sentence because of the incompetent judges, but because there are many politicians who were benefactors, thy might conived with the judges for leniency based on what might have transpired during the SBF time as the CEO of FTX exchange.
