GMs, at least those that have been granted permissions, thus including President & VP, are able to ban/unbanned users. But sure pres & vp should be handing teleportation at this point. +1
Didn't know about that, it's not stated here. Good one..

That's because the topic is about presidents not mods. Don't really have a topic about GMs, other than general
mod guidelines. Maybe I should create one, though there's not much to say about it imo.
(You also have to read between the lines for the detail in that topic; 3 strikes and under review requires posts approved by admin only - this is what we call a "ban" - even though users can still "try" and post.)Note: This is infinitely better than spammers creating a new account and spamming again, though naturally this happens more often than not unfortunately. Ideally they are stuck in limbo posting spam that never gets approved, ie using bots or whatever so don't even notice. We have quite a few of these which is good.I feel the current power granted to the president is what the GMods and VP should be doing; the president is intended to have close/similar power to the admin. This activities are increasing, and the admin needs to share some loads. IMO.
Pres & VP activities are increasing as well, I haven't updated that topic thoroughly but will do in time for consistency sake. For example President is granted a small "set" of admin tools, and there is tonne of work Freemind does behind the scenes that not even other GMs know about, only presidents, using such admin tools
(which isn't for me to elaborate on either per state secrets act). Soon Pres & VP will likely be taking on even more it seems, at least hopefully, but I'll let them announce them instead of spoiling any surprises.

Imo though the president role/duties should strive to be further away from admin technical duties (those that require admin privileges), as well as GM duties. Ideally President is able to focus on managing the forum, initiatives, promotion, giveaways, competitions, etc, rather than flat out mod or admin work. Personally this is what I found very limiting about the role, ie effectively acting as a "head mod", rather than being able to focus on being president of a community as intended. Ideally also in the future the President wouldn't even be a GM or mod, but we are a long way away from making that work.
To reduce admin work admin "simply" need to appoint more admins *hint hint*: that's the only way to reduce the admin workload. Ideally there'd be a few admins, juniors and seniors, from devs to GMs, who can carry out more of the workload (on the technical side, with pres covering the non-technical). I understand it's a trust issue handing over such power to users, especially knowing that others are liable to break things, but some of us have been around for so long now we are probably just about deserving of it by now (ie, those referenced in next paragraph specifically). But as always, anything admin related is up to admin, and any user given such privileges would 100% be appointed by admin only and never elected, so wouldn't work for Pres role for that reason alone.
Edit: Also GMs are best kept as GMs unless they are striving to do more beyond moderating. Ie we have a few "workhorses" in the team (ie among us presidents, judges, ambassadors, etc), those that will just get shit done and not waste time talking about it. Specifically the original OG GMs (heyod hewow, epidemia, Bigpat) who are effectively the foundations of the forum moderating system, so I wouldn't want to be changing that ever personally. They also rarely get the credit they deserve for covering all language sections
(specifically one vey special GM), and you won't find them posting in english sections in a hurry.
