World has launched its biometric ID system stateside after years of regulatory hedging and global controversy.  The promise of free crypto in exchange for your biometric data is now live in the U.S., courtesy of World, the eyeball-scanning project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

It announced Wednesday that it is officially rolling out its orbs in six major American cities: Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, and San Francisco. While it toured its orbs around the U.S. in earlier promotional efforts, it stopped short of offering full services stateside.

The U.S. debut for World, formerly known as Worldcoin, comes far later than other jurisdictions across Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia.

I remember many months ago we discussed legal and privacy issue regarding Worldcoin on this news board. I guess it's one of reason they decide to rename "Worldcoin" into "World". I will continue to avoid this coin, while seeing price of WLD continue to going down.

It's an evolution that goes against the blockchain principles of respecting privacy and decentralization. The project is entirely centralized and aims to exploit customer data in exchange for promises of token profits.

Maybe I will avoid this coin, because in my opinion this coin is no longer following the blockchain principle where the owner's data will be known, maybe initially only on the WLD coin, but we don't know in the future whether we as crypto owners will always be safe.

For me, this is a good addition to further boost the cryptocurrency developments and it should be to embrace. The area of data sharing is absolutely a great features and I think that many crypto enthusiast will be attracted to the platform.
I don't think there is any cause to fears, it is a new invention, all that are needed is just a trial to see how it performs

I thought this was happening years ago. There were threads and discussions about this WLD scanning eyeballs in our country where they gave away around $50. Kind of small amount for the personal data taken from them.

While I'm surprise someone would allow their eyes be scanned.  What does the eyeball database do to people that has their eyes recorded there?

They're exploiting the poor people through getting their personal information in exchange of some crypto tokens.

Because of this, I will not support this token just like what many are saying. They also went in our country, and since we're a developing country, they lured those poor people by sharing their personal information and in exchange, they will get free money through their token which is WLD.

I just hope that those who gave their information to them will just be fine.

IMO proof of personhood (i will call it PoP) isn't comparable with PoW and PoS. PoP is their mechanism to ensure one person only have one address, wallet or ID. Meanwhile PoW and PoS refers on how a block is generated.

Yeah, but these days WLD only have price $1.03 and US have relative high living cost. so there aren't that many US citizens would be interested, when they could get more from joining government welfare and benefits.

Ahh this again. I didn't think the project would reach the US citizens but I guess timing was perfect because the pro-crypto Trump won the US Presidency.

They were here in the Philippines not long ago. I wasn't surprised that people actually lined up. The general mindset why is that who cares about privacy concerns from eyeball scanning when Facebook gets their personal data for free? At least they get some money with this

I have read about this in an article somewhere in some state which the Worldcoin Orb been displayed on malls where people can get free tokens after the allow the orb to scan their iris.

In todays economy where people will do anything to put food on the table I wouldn't be surprise to see more people allowing to be scanned all for $50. Its already a big help. In my country people lined up to get these tokens.

Getting something in return, is a good hope, it is like getting airdrop and obviously the people who gave their Retina scans and their face scans early, they can get more better rewards, AFAIK, the last time, they were giving away $7 to a single person for scanning their eyes and faces right?

Well, whatever they are paying, it don't worth the shot, because even if you get 100$ to $1000 dollars, you should not do it, as we don't know for what purpose they can be using it, it can be use for anything like they have especiall war system I have heard that can trace people by face and can kill them, I am not saying they will do this, but it Afghanistan, I heard a documentary that, US army when was there, they scanned faces of many people there just with the slogan that, you guys are getting registered so our technology won't kill you (it was something like that).

I am not saying world platform will do that, but what if their data got leaked, or sold to someone who uses it for bad purposes. The best way to earn money is to either trade there token if they bring any.

It was 25 WLD[1], when it's price was about $4 higher. Although looking at their support page[2], it seems they changed how the airdrop works where you can claim up to 150 WLD. But when i write this reply, 1 WLD is only about $1.02.

I will add to my list of "stupid things to do".
Once you have traded away your data for a silly amount of money, that data is gone forever and will be used against you.
