Japanese internal affairs minister Seiko Noda denies meddling in an on-going investigation by a government agency into a company dealing in cryptocurrency.
In January the Financial Services Agency (FSA) warned the unnamed company, that it’s been suspected of violating the law by operating a non-registered cryptocurrency exchange.
The FSA requested a written response to its concerns from the company, arguing that it “did not respond by the deadline given, it would report the matter to investigating authorities and take necessary steps.”
Noda’s office contacted the FSA several days after the warning, according to a document. Asahi Shimbun obtained via information disclosure. Noda’s office wanted to know what the agency was doing with respect to the company.
Noda’s office further said it would permit a company representative to attend the briefing because the company consulted with her office regarding the issue.
Noda flatly denied any such intention July 19, telling reporters the meeting was aimed at getting “an overall general account of cryptocurrency exchanges.” And that she was not present at the meeting which was held in Jan. 30.
