I'd assume one is initial coin offering...

ICO: An unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency venture. An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is used by startups to bypass the rigorous and regulated capital-raising process required by venture capitalists or banks. In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the cryptocurrency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies, but usually for Bitcoin. (Source:

Another could be like a fork situation.. (Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold. etc)  where the token is distributed free as a "fork" without any sort of payment required.

From my understanding, this has an implication of how its defined including Security token or not.

Ico is called the main sale of a coin that last for a month or more than that depends on the team of the project. While the project that needs no ICO is a project that the team doesn't need a target amount because maybe the project already has fund or it doesn't need much. I actually like such kind of project because they are not requiring you to pass a kyc.

ICO is a coin sold before launch. usually developers who use ICO projects are coin-based tokens, in the sense that coins that use Blockchain technology from other coins such as Etherum, NEM, NXT, Counterparty and Bitshares and this coin cannot be mining.

What I know is that ICO is raising funds to make a project related to crypto currency. The ICO will offer coins at low prices to investors. And I don't know what you mean by Non ICO.

I think what OP meant when he/she said Non-ICO are those projects that were funded not from public token sales but through venture Capital. I could be wrong though
