Google blocks apps for mining in the Play Market
« on: August 03, 2018, 05:41:21 PM »
Google has joined Apple in a policy of banning cryptocurrency mining apps that are hosted on the Play Market for Android.

According to a report from the industry media company Android Police, the Internet giant spoke about its shift in the recent update of Google Play developers ' policies. The new company policy States:

"We do not allow apps to mine cryptocurrencies on devices. We allow apps that remotely control the mining of cryptocurrency."

It is worth noting that the restriction appeared at a time when Google and Apple are strengthening measures to limit activities related to the mining of cryptocurrency on their platforms.

In April, Google released a similar ban for extensions dedicated to cryptocurrency mining, installed in the company's proprietary browser from the Chrome web store, after the company found that "the vast majority of application creators did not comply with the rules and their activities were malicious."

Also last month, Apple updated its mobile app policy for iOS developers to prohibit any app that can be used for cryptocurrency-related operations on mobile devices.

Such actions to limit cryptocurrency mining have emerged as hidden mining appears to be very common in the world of cybercrime.

"Kaspersky lab", the Russian cyber security company, last month said that the incidents of mining cryptocurrencies, in which attackers capture the user's device for mining cryptocurrency began to meet more often to 44.5 % last year.

Similarly, a Skybox Security report a few days before suggested that illegal mining of cryptocurrency has now become more popular than extortion. In a half-year report, the company said that " cryptocurrency mining now accounts for 32 percent of all cyberattacks, while ransomware hacks are only 8 percent."
