Student faces charges for stealing $ 5 million in Crypto through "SIM Jacking"

According to reports, Motherboard received court documents related to the arrest of Joel Ortiz, a 20-year-old from Boston, accused of stealing, $ 5 million in bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. Mr. Ortiz and his currently unidentified accomplices stole Cryptography from approximately 40 victims for a piracy technique known as "SIM jacking." It has been reported on July 12, California police arrested a college student accused of being part of a group of criminals responsible for the crime of more than $ 5 million in cryptocurrencies.

According to reports, Mr. Ortiz was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport on his way to Europe with a Gucci purse allegedly paid for with stolen money. The 20-year-old now faces 28 charges, including 13 charges of hacking, 13 identity theft dealers and two major theft dealers.

Ortiz is currently on the street waiting for his guilty plea hearing on August 9. His bail was set at $ 1 million.
