Just think the ethereum price before three years ago. It was about 5 times  more than present. Its price fell down a lot but now it has started to reciver its precious position. Investment goes two way that is short term and long term. You can choose short term BTC and ETH and for long term you can choose other coins from CMC listed top 10 coins which price is low at this moment. So those coins price may gain high in near future. So choice is yours.

well as you already mentioned that you want to invest in best alts only, just go with top-50 ranked coins from CMC. Because there don't have any better option than it. That's true. Bitcoin, Ethereum , and XRP are the top 3 coins in crypto space. So, it is no doubt that those coins are the best options for trading or investment. I also focus on collecting BTC, ETH, and XRP since I think it is a must to have them on our wallets. I already have some coins but it should be more in the future.
