I think they'll be taken by governments. Cryptocurrencies are too unpredictable to be part o global economy for longer period of time. That's why global leaders will be trying to control them - they're doing it already. For example, few days ago two congressmen in U.S. have introduced a plan for cryptocurrencies' regulations. It wasn't be so surprising, but that guys are from different parties - one from Democrat Party and one from Republican Party. So it looks like idea of crypto taxation and regulations is in U.S. Congress stronger even than political divisions (more about whole case here on spam blocked b)
