Yes it is true that many tokens price fall even 10X below ICO price immediately after listing, what I think is the issue is from the project founders and how the project is managed, for instance Hyperquant is doing well because of buy back by the team. So the price may differ, depending on the project, you wouldn't know which project will do better after ICO.

Yes it is indeed very rare to see the price of a token the same on exchanges as during ICO. Majority of the ICO rarely meet up the soft cap and they go burst. Some meet up but are unable to continue the project at the pace they started. This needs careful thoughts.

Here's what you can possibly do if you want to support a project but still having some reservations, invest during ICO so it can get thru the next stage. After getting listed on an exchange, sell your investments then buy it at a lower price (if it ever drops).
