Intel patents energy-saving bitcoin mining.

The global technology giant Intel, known for its widely used computer processors, has received a patent related to cryptocurrency systems.

On Tuesday, the U.S. patent and trademark office (USPTO) issued a patent to Intel outlining a way to conduct "energy-efficient, high-performance mining of bitcoin," in particular, to perform calculations on the SHA-256 algorithm used by the world's largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

As reported, Intel has previously filed patent applications related to the company's work in the field of mining. And it was Intel's foundry that released chips for specialized equipment under the management of 21 Inc, which was later renamed Earn.com and eventually Coinbase was acquired.

Miners who process the bitcoin network are rewarded for finding new blocks of the network and receiving a Commission for conducting transactions. However, specialized hardware for the bitcoin network usually requires hardware accelerators such as specialized integrated circuits (ASICs) and therefore requires a large amount of energy.

Hardware accelerators are needed, in particular, to handle 32-bit string bits used once during a transaction.) Currently used ASICs process these transactions in several stages with redundancy. As explained in the patent:

Special ASICs for dedicated bitcoins are used to implement several Sha-256 counters, which can provide the performance of thousands of hashes per second with energy consumption of more than 200 watts. Variants of the present invention use micro-architectural optimization, including selective hardware binding of certain parameters in the calculation of the algorithm [bitcoin cryptocurrency network].

"The complexity of these parameters would reduce the amount of computation required,"paten explains to mechanics," estimating that such a system would reduce the amount of energy required for the chip by 15 percent." "The resulting chip will also be smaller than the one currently used for bitcoin miners," adds Intel.

The patent also contains an explanation that the change in computed as 32-bit code string may further reduce power requirements. "Instead of comparing the final result of hashing with the target value, the Bitcoin application can determine whether the hash representation has a minimum number of leading zeros, "the patent application says.
