During the holidays, many people send money or gift cards instead of gifts; the Bank of England in its survey found that 70% of users prefer Crypto.
Earlier this week, the Bank of England (BoE) tweeted a survey asking its followers about their preferred ways to receive cash gifts. The survey says:
If you get money as a gift this Christmas, what is your favorite way to get it?
In the survey, users could choose from a variety of options, including cash, Bank transfer, gift certificate, digital currency. At the time of publication, the digital currency is leading in the survey with 70%.
What will they do with the results?
While this tweet seems like an easy way to start a conversation, it can also have a lot of hidden meaning. Financial regulators in the UK have yet to work out a position on cryptocurrencies, which leads to speculation that the tweet is a secret way in which the Bank of England is trying to measure public interest in cryptocurrencies, which is quite logical now that the decline in the market has deprived major digital currencies of most of their value.
While BoE is not in a hurry to make decisions on cryptocurrency, the Bank's management is taking significant steps to regulate the sector and integrate the blockchain into its own system.
Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, said at the meeting that "although the plans are not inevitable, and cryptocurrencies currently do not play the role of money in the British economy, the question remains open to the prospect of issuing a digital currency by the Central Bank."
The Bank has also recently "overhauled" its settlement system, allowing both traditional private systems and systems based on distributed Ledger technology to interact with the Bank's network. Carney noted at the time:
"RTGS is being rebuilt so that new private payment systems, including those using a distributed Ledger, can simply connect to our system. Our new robust infrastructure will meet your expectations, opening up a range of potential innovations in wholesale markets as well as in corporate and retail banking."Link to the source of information (Russian) -
