Can bitcoin survive without altcoins?

Bitcoin was the first and only cryptocurrency years back and it survived without any altcoin. Why do you think it won't survive without altcoins,? In my opinion, altcoins are like competitors to bitcoin but not withstanding, it will definitely survive without altcoins.
