Title: Avoiding Scams For Beginners
Post by: TomPluz on August 06, 2024, 07:21:38 AM

There is no getting away from the reality of so many scams and frauds happening in the cryptocurrency industry and every year there are many people who got victimized in one way or another and they lost money while the perpetrators are making big bucks, damaging the reputation of the industry in the eyes of the many.

So what are the most important and practical ideas that can help newbies to never be victims of scams and frauds? Here are some from me:

1. Never listen to an offer which is too good to be true: usually you just almost nothing and you can earn a lot of bucks just have some capital and turn your money to someone else.

2. Scammers are now getting so creative and even ahead of times when it comes to their crafts so always do some search and think a lot of times before you made the big jump.

3. Don't just go along with the crowd that may lead you to the slaughterhouse...popularity is not always the gauge or the test of being true or genuine as even the most popular people can also be scammed or worst are scammers themselves.

I am sure there can be more good advice on how to avoid scams and frauds...and I want you to share it here for all of us to learn on.

Right now FAKE WALLET is most interested way for scammer by sharing their private key and show us how much assets in their wallet. The new comer in cryptocurrency not understood well about scam or fake wallet by sending fees for withdrawing fund there, after fees receiving the fake wallet have set up with bot notification and directly sending fees fund to their wallet in short term.
Almost kinds of scam way sharing by OP still adopt by scammer right now and we must be careful, don't interested with website giving by scammer there are have bitcoin assets and required few amount of btc to withdraw. If still beginner in cryptocurrency don't be shy ask to other about potential scam or not because impossible some one not know well will give their bitcoin and altcoin assets.

It would be interesting to see a quiz or test and let the people share their results with possible identification of scams, like an interactive one that makes you understand if you are susceptible to scams.

I'm interested in doing one.

In our country, it's sad that the romance scam is still popular. There are many kababayan of ours that still fall for that scam because they think that they've found a jackpot and love with a foreigner. But little did they know, they're targets within their eyes and it's even more sad when there's a kababayan accomplice to the victim that they have been targeting. IMO, being informed will make lesser victims from these scams and that's why knowledge is important but many are not willing to listen and learn with these warnings.

There are many other common ways. Example is to connect you web3 wallet to a scam site. Another common on are fake exchanges. If someone deposit on the exchange, that means the person has been scammed. Another common one which is recovery service which are completely scam. Scam through impersonation is still common. Another one are address poisoning et cetera.

To avoid crypto scams, stick to reputable platforms with solid security, always enable two-factor authentication, and be cautious of phishing attempts—don’t click on suspicious links or share personal info. Thoroughly research any investment, check reviews, and understand the project before diving in. Also, be skeptical of unsolicited offers; if someone pitches a "hot tip," do your own research instead of relying on their advice.

1. Never listen to an offer which is too good to be true: usually you just almost nothing and you can earn a lot of bucks just have some capital and turn your money to someone else.
I think this is an important thing for new investors to pay attention to. They often easily put money into projects that are hastily created during a bullrun with a lot of promises of future profits. I've received many questions related to bad new projects during the bullrun 2021. Most of them had problems with the team, solution, and tokenomics, especially the promises related to profits.

In addition to what you mentioned, I think investors should manage their emotions better to have more reasonable expectations. In 2021, we heard many people say that the super-cycle is BTC $100K, BTC price will never decrease again, we have entered a new phase of the market..., but all of that was delusional and did not come true. I think a little understanding of technical analysis can help new investors be more proactive when dealing with the market.

2. Scammers are now getting so creative and even ahead of times when it comes to their crafts so always do some search and think a lot of times before you made the big jump.
This is what often brings victims who are beginners. because let alone the creativity of scammers who make their scam projects or activities run very creatively and smoothly. various types of old scams also often trap beginners and become victims of these scammers.

why can this happen? One of the reasons is because of the lack of knowledge and insight regarding the cryptocurrency that they have. moreover, their great desire to immediately get big money instantly also makes them reckless and careless in every action, and easily believe in the sweet promises of scammers without any prior analysis.

Therefore, education about crypto or anything where we will invest money in it is very important. do not ignore all education and advice from other people regarding the possibility of a scam.

Avoiding projects that offer a good return on investment will do better. Don't invest in them, no matter how sweet the offer can be. Keeping in mind that projects skyrocket in price organically will do a lot better to save one not to fall victim to pump-and-dump projects. Investing in a project because it pumps in price, remember it will eventually experience the same dump you are avoiding, to make you have a loss investment. However, invest wisely because you are convinced within yourself after carrying out your own research that a project will do well with time

I think most be careful right now with faster innovation from scammer always have difference how to get scam or hack our wallet.
For cryptocurrency holder their assets in wallet, make its privacy and never connected with not trusted site and checking more detail if required for connecting wallet are there web3 wallet scam or trust.

Conducting research is a good step to identify fraud, but how you conduct the research is what determines it. For example, if you search for the name of the service on Google, the first search results may be paid articles or phishing links, and here the research is no longer useful. You cannot avoid 100% OF scam, but try not to be scammed except after a great effort and to keep the losses as low as possible.

What exactly do you mean by "are there web3 wallet scam or trust"? Are you saying that scam services will likely hide some details from you, or that scam web3 wallets will hide details and automatically sign transaction or something similar? I can't really understand it.

I don't recall seeing a news where popular web3 wallets will get hacked just by connecting to a new website. Most of them come from signing a smart contract, executing some random code, connected to a phishing account that requires permission and the user never bothered to check it, etc. I do agree that relying on your web3 wallet for scam protection is a stupid thing to do though. CMIIW.

People are losing millions from crypto due to online fraud. However it is possible to avoid this kind of online fraud if you want, you just need to be careful and use some special strategies. Especially those who are new to crypto are victims of scamming in various ways. So all newbies should be urged to embark on crypto with particular things in mind. Do not share your personal information, account information and gmail information.
If the message comes from an unknown number and if there is a link then don't to click on that link. Also i don't think it's convenient to use online vpn so avoid that too.

There are many new methods used by scammers to deceive their victims, Even now with the help of Ai it is even easier to commit fraud.
Beginners or even people who have been in crypto for a long time should be vigilant and cautious about new crypto projects, it could be a scam project that has already been designed.

Scammers can easily create phishing links and spread them, or Fake Dapps that will take over our connected personal wallets.
Beginners should be careful and should learn how to avoid the trap of scammers.

For me, fake website or sometimes we call as "phishing websites" are the most popular way of scamming people when it comes to cryptocurrency and it works. I mean investors don't even look at the website they are visiting with, and they just simply connect their wallet on that fake website. I, myself is a victim of this one, but it's good that the wallet that I connected doesn't have any funds at all, so I just simply deleted that wallet, and created another one.

This type of scam that I'm thinking doesn't normally happen to the crypto industry, but I'm talking about the "Task Scam" if somebody heard about it already. The tl;dr of that is, they will pay you at first for the simple tasks you do and they will say on the later part that in order to withdraw the money that you get from making simple tasks, you will need to deposit some money. Nevertheless, I agree with what OP said that scammers as evolving as our technology is evolving that's why I always say to newbies that they should learn first.

Agree. It is better to use trusted platforms only, don't use random platforms. When I want to trade my coins or store my coins temporarily, I prefer to choose top exchanges only. This is also the way to avoid scam exchanges. There are so many scam platforms, scam projects, or scam sites. So we must be more careful now! True, we must always do deep research and check the reviews from other people who ever used it. If we always becomes more careful, I think we can avoid the scams. In most cases, people are deceived by scammers because they are doing something carelessly.

I am sure there can be more good advice on how to avoid scams and frauds...and I want you to share it here for all of us to learn on.
Your trust is something that scammers hope to gain first before they can successfully carry out their dubious schemes on you. If you do not easily trust, you will not easily fall victim to these scammers. Before you trust, you have to verify, and you do not need to trust blindly or completely. Trust is not something that should just be easily given to people or individuals simply because they are our friends or family members; they can be as dangerous as strangers. Before you trust someone, be sure that they have earned it.

I can't agree more with your words and these are some good tips +1 for you. I also wanted to add a few examples of such scams that can also give newbies more idea of how really such scams work. For example, the Twitter (AKA X) account of some celebrity got hacked and the hacker made a tweet that connected your wallet to this link and got one in a time NFT people thought it might get them some good profit and everybody started connecting their account and lose and that day $900k were stolen by everyone who connected their wallets.

I am talking about the Vitalik Twitter account hack case.

If we do a thing just because everyone else is doing it does not mean that's right or real. Like many people are joining TG Bots nowadays and thinks about how they can be fake.

I could understand most of them but not rug pull scam. What is it again?

From where I live I think ponzi is the most wide spread and famous one. Every months they would make a app or website, where you will need to invest a certain amount to get a fixed return, the more the invest the more the return. They have referral benefits too. Every year million million dollar are stolen by this. They would pay for maximum 2 months to the early investors, and when they gain much popularity they would stop paying and would steal the money. They would again return with a different name different company different theme, and start scamming again. Since my country is not that well developed and still developing there are many rural folks who are not smart enough to figure that this is a scam.

The best way to avoid scam is to use a cold wallet, and that is either an airgapped or hardware wallet, that way your keys are offline and what you do in your online device cannot really affect your funds, because anything online is prone to hacking. Another way is to ensure you use open source softwares, one that you and the community can review its code for bugs and other vulnerabilities.

When someone is not that eager to make it quickly in the cryptocurrency industry, it’s hardly likely for them to fall for all these kinds of scams. Most of these scammers’ tactics usually involve trying to get someone to double their money. When some people hear that, due to their desire to make money quickly, they just follow the scammers' instructions. If anyone doesn't want to fall into the hands of scammers, they should stop thinking that they can make it quickly. There is no free money anywhere because big profits are what most scammers use to attract people.

Some scammers run a legit platform then freeze the users account and take their balance and explain that they have broken some of the rules or they didn't follow it so there's nothing the users can do but to complain. Other scammers only make an exact copy of an original platform but the difference is the platform url, it is called phishing websites.

It will be a nice thing if they introduce such a quiz, and it is an educational something that will bring more knowledge to us and preventive measures to avoid being scammed because many people will bring different ideas, so from other people's ideas, we will know we don't know, and also people will learn from what other people shared, so I think this idea is something to consider.

Scammers are very smart; they always come with different types of strategies to scam people, so even if someone is not eager to make money from cryptocurrency, that does not mean they are protected from getting scammed. The main thing is the knowledge. You may think you are smart; you think of getting money quickly, but you don't know what will happen because anything you don't know you don't know you must have to learn, so regardless of how careful you are in this space, you just have to learn some key things to avoid getting scammed.

If you do not trust a platform, this means that all the links related to it are unreliable links, let alone phishing links, but some services create temporary platforms and manage the exchange process via the binance OKX kucoin API, so you must be careful when using unknown platforms.

Nowadays, scammers come up with many types of offers that a newbie will be surely attracted to them, that is, those who do not have much knowledge about online and scams will easily fall for the scammers. So they have to be careful, they have to understand that no one will pay them in vain. Those who offer this kind of thing, all you have to do is create an account, and give a promo code, so you get $10000 (just for understanding). They are 100% scammers. So always be careful, Don't enter any highly profitable offers online they are scammers.

You've done well by making this three important basic list to guide newbies, so they don't fall victim of scams. The truth is, scams happens to be something that can't be taken away from our society. The world we live is filled with both the good and ugly side, which makes cryptocurrency not an exemption. But it is important for hardworking newbies to avoid fraudulent circumstances, so it doesn't leads to financial trauma or impression towards cryptocurrency.

Aside the things you've mentioned, I think newbies should also have the necessary knowledge.  There are some scams that requires people to connect their wallet to malicious websites, and not all newbies are aware of this. There are also malicious links that makes people's device vulnerable to attack and theft, but Newbies are not aware, so this shows the importance of having basic knowledge before getting into cryptocurrency, and I will always encourage.

Scammers also disguise themselves as important people in telegram groups, tricking beginners into following instructions given through private messages.

There are many methods used and now the most common is the method of using Fake dApps which will be a trap for the wallet used to connect and will automatically be exposed to Drained Bots which will drain all the assets in the connected wallet.

Even not beginners, those who are already experienced in crypto can also be targeted and unconsciously their wallets are drained.
Therefore, it is necessary to be vigilant and careful in every activity carried out on the internet, make sure everything is legitimate and not a trap.

Hridoy7788 has given strong advice to avoid crypto scams because as a beginner this is mostly the mistakes you can make as a result of ignorance, beginners can’t differentiate between reputable exchanges and fake ones, they don’t know how dangerous it is when they click on suspicious links and get easily fooled by unrealistic promises and that way they are easily exposed to scams.

As said, seeking knowledge should be the first step for every beginner that way they will be exposed to certain information and easily identify scams from a far. Even with knowledge you should still be very cautious and follow the tips above as precautionary measures and always prioritize your own personal research before giving in to any ideas.

Would love for more people to share their tricks.
I always visit social platform X where there are also many fake sites that look legitimate, with so many promising this has also been a lot of victims including my own friend drained his wallet due to phishing sites.

I think investors are now more cautious about this type of scam because it has been warned everywhere. Checking the link should be done multiple times before we connect our wallet or use information from them. Bookmarks also work effectively in this case to avoid unfortunate mistakes.

It would be terrible if investors had to put real money into the market, trying to spend time and effort to invest and generate profits but end up losing all their crypto assets due to connecting their wallet to a fake site. I usually trust the links provided on Coinmarketcap or Coingecko to avoid fake sites.

1. Never listen to an offer which is too good to be true: usually you just almost nothing and you can earn a lot of bucks just have some capital and turn your money to someone else.

Scammers are knows to be sweet talked with their offers because they feel that’s the only way they can get to victimize their victims easily. Nothing comes for free in this cryptocurrency world, you just have to work for something before you can get a reward for it. When you’re not spending too much or offering something in return for a huge offer, just know that it is very likely that it’s untrue and you may be scammed.

Quote

 2. Scammers are now getting so creative and even ahead of times when it comes to their crafts so always do some search and think a lot of times before you made the big jump.

Creativity is the watch key of every scammer. New and innovative ideas is what they’re more focused on as victims are also getting wiser once beaten by them. So they always look for other means to try and outsmart their victims. So always be on the watch out for new trends in the market, so that you don’t fall into the wrong category of people that will scam you off your funds. Anything worth finding is not worth risking to scammers.

Most times, why beginners get scammed is that they believe that making money online is very easy and fast. They fail to get the fact that there's no easy way to make money anywhere that why some stranger pulls out from ho where a pull off a scheme on them and steal theie funds. The best way to avoid being scammed as a beginner is to do proper research of any investment proposal you have been offered. Don't be fooled by mere talks about being rich over night.

A rug pull is a scam where token developers abandon a project and take off with investors' money. First, the developers will create and list a new crypto token on a decentralized exchange. They promote this heavily through social media, influencers, and promises of huge returns. The hype creates buzz and many people buy because of FOMO. When enough money is invested, the developers sell off their holdings which crashes the price. They've "pulled the rug" out from investors and left them with worthless tokens.

The Squid Game token is a concrete example of a rug pull. It was inspired by the TV series and heavily marketed. Just days after its launch, the developers sold their holdings and disappeared. The token's value dropped from $2,800 to zero.

You can say that greed is one of the major reasons why there are investors that are still getting scammed, but let's add MISINFORMATION to the mix as well because right now and with how people use the internet now, the amount of misinformation that we are seeing online increases. We've seen videos on YouTube that are misleading these newbie investors therefore, there's a high chance that they might get scammed. We've seen people that are spreading false information online, and the ones that are falling to this traps are newbies.

Right now, I feel that self-learning became harder than what it was when I was still starting to learn crypto way back in 2017 because there are so much misinformation here and there.

Thank you for creating this topic I have familiar most of them on the list on the screenshot except the Rug pull scams. Can anyone explain it to me so that I can easily understood that. I am going to do google searching and I want also from some word from you guys.

+1 thanks for your notice, I thought no one have seen this post of mine  :P

Anyway I have already explored about what is the rug pull and I get to know this these rug pulls scams we seen but I don't know the scams name.
I am also seeing that if we notice on the bounty campaigns and the airdrop most of the new projects are being end on the rug pull scamm like they take a safe exit after looting the peoples money.

If we think we have acquired the required basic information and knowledge about the crypto network, then we still have more task ahead to do as a continuous process, this is on the security measures expected of us to take in other not to fall in for scam, there will be several attempts which people would have be making online to see that some fall their prey, but when we know how to identify such, we will always avoid them from happening.

Yeap. Because If we look back to previous history then we will saw that the days gone the hacker or the scammers tooked new plan strategy to phishing the people and if we talk about the cryptocurrency then it is happening more here because of the anonymity.

I some seen some scamer who make trapped by exploiting sites like they have need to do minimum deposit then when people do deposit by the greed then the scammer run away with their money.

Scams on Twitter are rampant these days, it's good that projects have started to make tweet saying, 'this is last tweet of the thread' — otherwise the viewer wouldn't even be able to figure out the correct link and fall prey to scam.

I think investors are now more cautious about this type of scam because it has been warned everywhere. Checking the link should be done multiple times before we connect our wallet or use information from them. Bookmarks also work effectively in this case to avoid unfortunate mistakes.

People's eye us already opening so they are extra careful in all the transactions they do, and that is the only way they can not be a victim to scam. For the past few years now a lot of people are falling victim to scams and have lost a lot of money because of scam so people that have gotten scammed are sharing experiences for people to be careful and not to be scammed. People are trying to aviod saving anything online, they are actually learning.

Quote
It would be terrible if investors had to put real money into the market, trying to spend time and effort to invest and generate profits but end up losing all their crypto assets due to connecting their wallet to a fake site. I usually trust the links provided on Coinmarketcap or Coingecko to avoid fake sites.

When you do a research their are lot off people that have give out their seed phrase just because they were convinced by a scammer, and they also wanted to try it put but now before anybody try anything out they would have ask questions since money is at stake losing money now in this economy is definitely going to be terrible. And their is a lot of fake websites we need to be careful of.

So what are the most important and practical ideas that can help newbies to never be victims of scams and frauds? Here are some from me:
To how much I have come to understand the concept of fraudulent in the Crypto industry, we really can not cut its scamming existence off but we can only curve to limit individuals falling victims because most scammers are professionally knowledgeable with different skills of entrapping victims.

So, the only way we can minimize this scamming possibilities is by not too quick to concur with across informations pertaining cryptocurrencies.
Must be endivoired to enquire and make your research before keying in to action.

Do not be so attracted to hyping coins that it developers claims the coin of having a quick rich potential.
Although there could be such potential coins but as much as it is feasible, so also, the coins could overnight so magically like that and then you could lost your funds.

Be contented with your immediate holding but though diversification of investment is essential for alternative source of incomes but why greeds are being implied, it becomes a risky tendencies of being vulnerable today be scammed either by investing on unrealistic crypto coins or abiding to unrealistic Crypto updates.

the most frequent victims are those who are given tempting offers in a short time, such as big profits when making a deposit of a certain amount and they will get fixed profits within a few months... this scheme is usually not far from ponzi and this has claimed many victims... the guise of this fraud model is very diverse, and has even spread to telegram...

The point is, be careful when you spend money. When it looks attractive, then it could be bait for you.. while you are the fish... Don't be easily tempted by something instant, because money is not that easy to get for people who don't have the skills.

I strongly agree with this opinion. Greed of quick and easy profits can be dangerous trap mostly leading to financial loss. Schemes promise mostly high returns in short time are mostly Ponzi schemes or similar fraudulent websites. These scams can attract in various ways and have even contact by social media platforms like Telegram.

It is good to exercise caution when you are going to do investment especially research about those that seem too good to be true. Always keep in mind there is no shortcut to make money it requires effort patience and skill. Do not be greedy and always prioritize careful consideration and research before parting with your hard earned money.

Don't answer texts and messages from random people who promise that they will make you money. This is a very common scam that could completely wipe you out if you're not careful.

I think one of the most important things newbies need to know is that nothing is completely free and "if it is too good to be true, then it probably isn't". Many scammers get their victims by presenting to them what seems to be easy money but the main target is to scam them of their money or data. The moment we realize that nothing good comes easily and nothing is free, we will be able to put our greed in checks.

It often happens on the Telegram application, suddenly there are people who offer investments with very high APY and have strange platform names... for those who have joined the cryptocurrency category telegram group, they may also be contacted by these people often, so it is true, that be careful when you have to spend your money on people you don't know.

In addition to telegram, for those who often do KYC to participate in aidrops, this database is also often used by fraudsters to contact you... fraudsters can enter via email, SMS or WhatsApp... for those who have already sent identity photos on several platforms, limit transactions with foreign numbers to stay safe.

Its important for beginner learn more about how to safe their cryptocurrency assets to avoid from scammer sent them fake link until be smart when making investment on trusted project. Don't easily excited with higher reward promising by scammer because all of them have targeted with beginner to scam.

Regarding AI I agree, I saw a video where David Beckham was seen to promote some crypto stuff, at start of ad it looked genuine, but after a while when he started to promote crypto stuff then I realized it was deepfake.

The first rule we must ensure not to avoid is from our desperation for making money online, because this will ultimately be a reason why many would have fall a victim of scam, when they were busy running up and down over online offers promising big rewards, but they are not taking their own personal time in making research over them to see or know whether its true or not.

Desperation for money is not the issue here because recently, a person lost 55 million DAI to a scammer's phishing attempt. Can you believe that a wealthy person could lose money to such scammers? He linked his wallet address to a phishing site and even signed the transaction. If I were in his place, I would never connect my wallet to any site. Instead, I would transfer funds from one account to another if I needed to sell or swap them.

Keeping such a large amount in a single wallet and then using that wallet carelessly will lead to scams. We are more likely to be scammed when we act quickly without a clear mind.

The main principle that must be done is to always listen to and read well the information that can possibly be obtained, so with that do not hesitate to do research from everything that is obtained before deciding what to do. Right, many offers are available online, and it is very promising that sometimes is no longer examined so that many are fooled by it, the promise of a big prize is certainly good if it is true, but can it be trusted? Continue to analyze well before doing.

We cannot help in avoiding scam for any because we will not be held responsible for anyone who lacks the idea of how to stay updated on the necessary steps needed to take before engaging into crypto, also knowing about how to maintain a well and secured measures on the security of our assets is important, when we have insight on all these, losing or falling for any attempt on scam or hack will be difficult because we already know about them and could identify one once we see them coming.

Now beginners really have to learn how to avoid scams and traps created by scammers.
The more advanced today's technology with the help of AI the easier it is for scammers to make their fraud methods more perfect.

As a person who has been in crypto for quite a long time, I also have to keep up with the development of this technology and of course beginners should also do it. It is also easier to learn something, if beginners cannot develop then it will hinder them and only become a target for scammers.

Do research on each project that will be followed to be used as an investment, make sure it is safe and can provide profits.

A very popular scam fueled by greed, if not greed tell me why someone would believe that a complete stranger would help them make money or double the money that they have, that is totally ridiculous. The scammer would only end up scamming the person, taking away the little the person has, this experience has taught a lot of people not to be greedy.

In addition to digital, beginners are also wary of real things in the field... the last time I saw a fraud with the same model, but moving directly to the target's house. Usually they target people who are no longer young, especially retirees who have more time at home... minimal knowledge of technology, makes fraudsters pretend to be teachers for those who provide a way and teach how to make money... targets who feel like students, there is no other word but to obey....

So, in addition to being wary of digital offers, we must also be wary of real offers in the field.

Here in the Philippines, it is frequent that we will get that text message and this scammers will take everything, from banks to other government services and then they will have you to click on a phishing link.

Although I think there are users that are already aware of this kind of attacks so I'm assuming that there are not anymore victims in this kind of phishing scams. Anyway, we should still be very attentive with this kind of attacks, just saying.

Phone calls like this also exist in my country. But, you see, the problem here is that people who fall victim were easily lured with originality. What I mean is that, some scammers don't usually present their scam proposer as a new project. They try to make a carbon copy of original and genuine projects inorder to deceive people. They sometimes go as far as creating a scam from the scratch, making it look 100% real, which I think is done by scammers that have patience.

With the rapid increase in unemployment rate, I think we will be seeing lots of greed among the unemployed (even the employed), as they will be seeking for means to double the little they have. Just has Z-tight had said, "they will end up losing everything", and maybe end up having wrong perspective towards cryptocurrency as well, meanwhile the whole issue was triggered as a result of greed.

It would attack a person directly, and their target would be a person who had no power and effort to resist or even obstruct their plans.

Such real incidents are indeed crimes that often occur among people who do not care about their own environment so that it will be easier for criminals to carry out the practice.

But still now that crime in the digital world is more terrible, people who have retired are often targeted by fake calls such as insurance and other traps to drain their money quite easily, even it often happens these days.

Speaking of AI and it's development, there's already a thing called "Deepfake" where in a video, it appears that the CEO or the developer of the project is speaking and talking about their project and in the end, they will ask for some money. If you're a newbie, and you saw that video with lots of flowery and attractive words, for sure you will get attracted to it, will invest into it and *poof* your money is gone in an instant.

This is why AI right now is both beneficial and dangerous depending on how you will use it. I've been in the crypto for some time as well, and I would say that these scammers will not work against me, but their chances of success will increase if they will target those newbies. Like what you said, continuous learning is the key. Learning how to avoid these scammers is the key. As a newbie, always focus on learning first and not on earning. Profit will come, but scammers will come even more if you're unequip with knowledge.

Trust me when I say this, those scumbags are smart, not all though,  some of them are dumb and uses old and outdated  techniques and that's why they're quite easy to spot or predict that they're about to scam you. It might interest you to know that some of these scammers are graduates, some have good technological skills and knowledge, which makes them an expert in what they do, now some of them are even involved in diabolical practices. Not like I actually believe in anything diabolical, but I believe they're using it and it helps them to became to maneuver their ways into their victim's heart.

It's not a new thing that most of these scammers are full literates. They are just people who already had the nerves to steal from little child. Even though their techniques are pretty old, a lot of people still fall victims of their petty scams. Most times they can go to any extent to make sure they get what they want from their victims, just like you said, diabolical methods too. The best way to avoid such people is to avoid being greedy. Most people who fall victims of scam are those who thinks it's easy to make millions over night. And when they come in contact with such offers, they won't think twice but send funds ASAP, thinking they are going to o Become rich.

It seems like there is something missing about you, a person who is quite active in the online world, usually at least once in their life has felt like a victim of fraud or hacking. No matter how smart you are, be careful in doing anything, because in reality, scammers are not as stupid as you think. Even the seeds of these scammers can be associated with their intelligence with top hackers... to measure their activities, you can search for them on the darkweb or the underground internet, there the movements of clever scammers are quite attention-grabbing.

Indeed, not being greedy is a pretty cool way to avoid being scammed because majority of the people who fall victims to rhese scammers are those who are to greedy and have unrealistic goals. I mean how can someone tell you that if you invest some money with them, and you can get over 10x return in 24 hours, how's that even possible? So not being greedy can save you the trouble of being swindled.  But this isn't the ONLY way to avoid being scammed,  this is because there are those who do not act out of greed, but yet are still scammed, due to ignorance.  Ignorance can make a person fall victim of scam multiple times. So it should be, quit being greedy and equip yourself with as much knowledge and enlightenment as you can, then you have a very big chance of avoiding being scammed.

I don't really agree that scammers are as smart as people say they are, it is very easy to spot what scammers do, i haver never been a victim of scam, be it fiat or crypto scam. Just as i have already said, any greedy individual is vulnerable to scammers, whatever they tell them sounds like an opportunity to make money, but they don't know that they are about to lose the money they have.

How accurate, despite how good I considered myself to be, I fell to a phishing scam just about a year ago, also there was a story about a crypto veteran who fell to a sophisticated scam in which he lost millions, and he was using a hardware wallet too.

There are stupid scammers, and there are smart ones too. Don't let former cloud your judgement.

One of the reasons why we fall victim to scams or hacking is because we underestimate them. Sometimes if we think we are smart, we think that all the steps we are taking are correct. I agree with what you are saying, my point is that one can avoid these scammers, all they need is just one mistake or one loophole for them to attack, i try as much as possible to make sure i do not make any mistake that can make me vulnerable to scammers. Even people who use hardware wallet or cold storage and still get scammed made one mistake or the other that made them open to scam, however, if you use cold storage and you know what you are doing, it is almost impossible to get scammed.

I feel that some major reason that makes some people to become victims is because of greed, inpatient and carelessness. Some people are careless with their security and that is why they get scammed, some people too are greedy to the extent that they invest in sweet fake offers.

Greed is the true nature of human beings, and of course the level will also vary.
As a beginner who does not understand how the crypto market works, you will be tempted by the offer of high income, even though it is just a trap.

There are many types of scams that can trap anyone, and some scams are aimed at beginners.
I was also a beginner and fell into a trap that cost me thousands of dollars, but it was a valuable lesson for me.

That's right, if I trace all my history of being a victim of fraud, it is because of the sweet promises of the fraudster, my greed and ignorance of the current conditions... I have been a victim of fraud several times, and all the methods are different... the amounts vary, starting from $ 3 to the largest of $ 500 +... from there I began to learn that trusting people I just met is not a wise move... especially for buying and selling transactions, the existence of a middle man or escrow is quite important to secure our transactions...

Starting in 2021, I have very often used escrow or middle man services for transactions worth more than $ 50... and started to be a little skeptical of strange offers on the internet.

It's better to use an escrow service that is trusted and has good feedback.
Instead of p2p transactions but still can't be trusted because of new people, there will often be fraud if you only trust new people without any research at all.

There are many offers that appear in telegram messages, emails and other social media.
It's better to just ignore it and not get interested because I have a lot of offers coming from new people who obviously they just want to cheat.

Although I think there are users that are already aware of this kind of attacks so I'm assuming that there are not anymore victims in this kind of phishing scams. Anyway, we should still be very attentive with this kind of attacks, just saying.
Even in where i live, scammers also sent text messages and even make phone calls, impersonating reps of a particular service, you are right that there is a lot of awareness on scams and scammers like this and their victims have reduced, but they still get victims. I hope we get to the point where scammers get little to no victims again.

I know, in the beginning of my crypto journey, I was also scam by this so called bitcoin doubler, the good thing is that I didn't invest as much as the person that invited me, so it's lessons here for me not to trust anyone.

And so it's good that I experience it though I will say, because it really gives me this lesson in the beginning. And so even if I got phishing text or email, I just deleted it and ignore because I know from first hand experience already.

Don't answer texts and messages from random people who promise that they will make you money. This is a very common scam that could completely wipe you out if you're not careful.
A very popular scam fueled by greed, if not greed tell me why someone would believe that a complete stranger would help them make money or double the money that they have, that is totally ridiculous. The scammer would only end up scamming the person, taking away the little the person has, this experience has taught a lot of people not to be greedy.
We must admit that the scammer is smarter than the one being cheated, because his cleverness is able to provide more trust so that they are willing to do whatever he tells them to do, because they are indeed lured by a prize that has set a trap to be able to take everything they have., But it could be that what you say is true because greed can no longer control itself to be able to understand whether it is true or not but immediately believes it.
I think it's natural because the scammer makes this his livelihood, and we must understand more about this.

It all boils down to moderating your greed and learning how to trace and getting familiar with good projects, Newbies easily believe on everything presented to them because they dont want to feel left behind, or FOMO, After being late on so many projects, they are in a hurry to check for the project they think will yield them good profit, but unfortunately, its not the case in many projects, even if the project is that good therestill no guarantee of profit.

If you're a beginner, then always try as much as possible to see that you tidy up the way you go about cryptocurrency investment by learning form those that already have the experience, then its also a good idea to start small and then later grow the investment with time, we must also try to avoid alts to an extent if we really want to reduce the chances on getting involved with shitcoins.

Indeed. Those 3 things are the main reasons. People who never care about these, will easily become the victim. Moreover if people don't care with their security, scammers will be easy to scam them. Both beginners and experienced people actually have the same chance to be scammed if they are careless. That's why it is very recommended to be careful in everything we do in crypto, especially when it is related to managing our assets. We must be very careful to keep our passwords, key phrase, and etc. This private data should be stored in a very safe place.

Knowledge is always the key to anything much more so in the cryptocurrency market. We should not always believe everything we see and must not allow ourselves to be swayed by an appeal to greed...like those programs that claim to give us good income even if we are doing nothing. Usually scams can be persuasive because they know what they are doing and they know that human nature is weak when facing that prospect to gain and profit more. Now, in the cryptocurrency market, there are so many scams and it is because scammers understand their target market so well and they have the strategies to get us to their wings...we should always be careful and must take anything with some grain of salt. Losing money to scams can be a terrible feeling though it can also be a big learning experience.

Over confidence definitely not good and a lot of people make mistakes from being over confident but then you have a point also, greed, and carelessness are major factors that make people fall victim to hacks and scams. Greed will let you believe anything possible to just earn money quickly without minding if they are legit or fake, you will do anything for the money while being careless to not even bother to verify the authenticity of it.

The crypto world is now full of deception and we shouldn’t just believe anything we hear or see and at all times we should safeguard our wallets and not interact with strangers or share personal information with them.

Overconfident!. Aside from the internet space, I often come across people who are overconfident in themselves but have no clue of what they are getting involved in. Theoretically, I classify them as people with pride, who are never ready to learn, or even ask for assistance. They act as if they know everything, which they do not. We also encounter similar people on the internet, who behave as if they are experts in every thing.

One thing I have never been shy about is asking questions, no matter how stupid it may sound. There are certainly some mistakes that can be avoided if we ask questions in the first place, rather than making decisions based on assumptions. However, if someone feels he/she have enough knowledge in a particular area, then there is nothing wrong with making personal decisions, at least those decisions aren't based on assumptions.

This is annoying, but many also say that this cryptocurrency is a good source of finance to invest in.

Sometimes too overconfident is also not good, because it will greatly affect what you do in every job. Eventually you can become overconfident and can turn on yourself. On the one hand, confidence is also allowed, but don't get too over it, because it can't protect itself against the mistakes it might make.
It is natural that if someone makes a mistake then he will lose confidence and everything depends on him whether he is able to protect himself so that he can return to normal again. Everything is determined by training and experience.

There is another addition regarding security.. usually beginners do not care much about security until they become victims of fraud... yes, the first experience of being a victim will increase everyone's sense of caution and it becomes an invaluable experience... I am sure that most people who do online business in cryptocurrency have also experienced it, until finally various different traits of caution arise in each person. Some are too careful because they don't want to repeat the sad events they have gone through.... there are also those who are reckless because they have not underestimated the fraudsters who are even considered more stupid than them.

The point is, use your highest security and avoid all possibilities of hacking or fraud, that way you shouldn't feel like you've lost something in the future.

Sometimes I think some newbies in the crypto ecosystem actually don't mess up because they have zero knowledge about the crypto space however it's more because of fake and misleading information out there. And the whole stuff actually makes sense. Because there is virtually no one in this era that doesn't have even a glimpse of the idea of crypto currencies and or the crypto space in general. Infact we are in a digital era an as such the awareness of the digital space in let's say inevitable.

The problem is more misleading information about making money in the crypto space is out there than the actual and factual truth. People who don't research are the ones who often fall for these.

naturally nowadays, offers will always come anytime, either through forums or telegram, or social media, where all we can get easily.

You should be informed that if you are in a situation where you are longer for a long time, you got used to your wallet, thinking that there is no chance that something will fly into your wallet from dangerous coins or your purchase will fly out, that is also possible, you should pay attention not to do anything with the coins that you did not get in your wallet, do not give yours to anyone passphrase and private key. Do not fall into the trap of doing transactions with spam coins because it is dangerous.

1. Never listen to an offer which is too good to be true: usually you just almost nothing and you can earn a lot of bucks just have some capital and turn your money to someone else.

Beginners think the crypto space is where you will earn quick money. That is why they fall victim to all these scammers. If they have the knowledge of bitcoin investment and other crypto investment, they won’t fall for it because they know how the market works and they know how to make money out of it, so actually they need to avoid all these offers claiming that they will get a huge return on their money, especially if they claim that the money will come quickly.

2. Scammers are now getting so creative and even ahead of times when it comes to their crafts so always do some search and think a lot of times before you made the big jump.

Scammers are very intelligent; they can to any extent make money. Sometimes scammers may come to you in a way that even if you go to do the research, you will still find the same thing, but learning the concept of which the scammer is talking about is what matters, because if you have the knowledge of what he or she is trying to scam you about, you will definitely know where he or she is heading, and you will know that it’s a scam

Bitcoin is undoubtedly a good way to invest your money, but I can’t say the same for altcoins, as a matter of fact, I have quite the opposite point of view concerning altcoins, and I think anyone who chooses to invest in them would be doing so at their own risk and should at all time approach with extreme caution. Because when you’re investing in shitcoins, you can never be careful enough as you don’t know when the project would be dumped, because most of those projects are mostly pump and dump projects and those who actually benefits from such projects are the developers and also some of the early investors who are lucky enough to take out their profits before the dumps.

It’s not their fault, it’s the kind of information they got when they got into the ecosystem newly.

Some of them probably saw some kind of things or read an article where a user invested a little amount and then got a huge return within a short period of time and they thought they would be able to reproduce that same thing that was why they have that mindset.

These scammers are always getting new methods to get new victims which are always beginners in crypto and greedy crypto investors.

These methods you outlined are very good and will be useful to avoid many scam attempts, but how many newbies will listen to them?
Every newbie coming to cryptocurrency is greedy, they are after making cool money with less stress and work, and if they are after quick money, they will fall victim of scam easily; but if they can reduce their aim of making it quick and easily, they can make it through learning and gradual experience with little profit.
If all these can be avoided, the scammers will find it difficult to get any victim.

Do your research before that moment of agreeing to the request to send coins that you suddenly receive in your wallet. You will mark and the fraudsters are waiting for your first step, which is whether to send money to another user or receive it from the exchange, so that they will soon forward it to yours, where you do not have access and you are being cheated. You should watch out for spam coins that appear to be a scam, you should not touch them because especially fraud occurs, they are presented through some easily purchased sites where coins are allegedly still bought.

So when I immediately learned cryptocurrency and immediately looked for a community about cryptocurrency that fully supports the market, coins, blockchain and everything about cryptocurrency science so as not to get scammed. It's hard at first to learn cryptocurrency but later you will get used to it and this has been proven by me who is still on this forum, the point is don't trust scammers or people you don't know who offer unreasonable prizes, it's better if there are people like that, it's better to just avoid them.

Scammers are not limited to the internet, they can be found anywhere, even among our trusted friends. Therefore, anything pertaining to your assets should be private. Social media influencers had been a contributing factor in the problem that led to newbies being scammed, so newbies should be on guard because the majority of them fall for luxurious materials that influencers used to convince people of their legitimacy and use malware links on their page to trick people.
When it comes to investing in crypto, I would advise beginners to keep conducting their own personal research because scammers are constantly coming up with new ways to deceive people, and just as we are learning to avoid becoming their victims, they are also conducting research against us too.

I personally am always careful when it comes to following newly launched cryptocurrencies, except maybe I believe in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
bitcoin and ethereum are not newly launched projects these two are the oldest most used with biggest marketcaps in the cryptocurrency industry these two are the most reliable and most trusted by crypto users
Of course, there is no doubt about the capacity of bitcoin and ethereum and I strongly agree that they are two very old coins and until now they dominate crypto with the largest and best market capitalization, until now, and it is very difficult for anyone to surpass, even though there are many movements below them, but they are still the best.

There are so many DMs to my personal Telegram offering about cryptocurrencies, not to mention I was immediately added to a cryptocurrency group that I didn't know. This is annoying, but many also say that this cryptocurrency is a good source of finance to invest in.
beware of people randomly messaging you especially those who want you to click on suspicious links or fill out specific forms that require you to input personal information do not download anything from messages that people you don’t know send
It seems that we should not always trust any shipments that we do not know, because usually the contents look very good but are very misleading when we follow the directions they do, because usually what we have followed will make whatever we have in our wallet instantly change hands. Agree, do not download any messages that we do not believe, and we will be saved.

can we make it simpler? never send money to people we don't know, who just sent a message a few days ago... never do that, and never share data with anyone on the internet, even that greatly minimizes fraud via text messages on Telegram or other chat applications...

if you want to protect data to be safer, then never install something that is a threat to our computers, even if it is an official application... at least avoid unnecessary things to keep devices containing our sensitive data, at a safe level...

avoiding fraud through communication is quite easy to do, what is very difficult to prevent is avoiding fraud through viruses or malware that infiltrate our devices... something that we are not aware of is more difficult to avoid.

That is true, and it is safer if one should store their coins in an offline or airgapped device, if you store your funds in the same device you use to browse the internet, there is always risk, because anything online is prone to hacking.

Honestly, is not easy to avoid scammers based on their new strategies that they are coming up with each and everyday to scam people. but with this information you have given, it will be a great help to people especially beginners like me, who don't have  knowledge especially about all this scams of things. The best guide to fully avoid scammers are to avoid  any unknown persons that you see online especially promising someone by doubling it investment and also to avoid clicking on any links you see online. If possible I will advise my fellow beginners not to engage in any conversation with anybody we meet online. It will be better for us to come to a place like this to seek for  knowledges.

Actually, the existing wallets are also good, and their protection can be considered good, but again, as said, not to install something that we are not sure that can be safe and is not something that can harm our computers. Also protect our computers with good anti-virus protection.
But I do agree with your opinion that we can have an offline device that can provide a sense of security, but it also depends on our needs. If it's only to store the results of the bounty. I don't think it needs to be expensive.
