Thoughts about crypto spinning events.
« on: February 13, 2024, 11:52:30 AM »
Let me share this here with you my fellow crypto enthusiasts.

Late last year, I entered an online crypto spin and win contest that my friend had warned me to avoid. He thinks those things are shady and often scam. I signed up anyway just for fun, never expecting to actually win but eventually I did win something.
When I told my friend the news, he got really annoyed. He said those contests can't be trusted and I shouldn't believe I won anything real. I tried explaining it seemed legitimate, I mean, I did my research but he thought I was being reckless.

He asked if I was planning to share my prize with him since he tried protecting me from potential risks. I hadn't thought about that at all, in my mind it was my prize to keep. When I hesitated, he got more frustrated, thinking I was disregarding our friendship.

After the dust settled, we talked it out again. I said I appreciated him looking out for me but I still felt it was my prize to decide what to do with. We don't share money as friends anyway. Eventually he dropped it, but I could tell he was bothered I didn't listen to him in the first place.

What do you think - should I split a contest prize to heal a friendship, even if I solely entered and won? Do you try online spinning promotions or find them too questionable? Let me know your thoughts!

I doubt that the events you shared actually happened but I'm curious what is this crypto spinning events that you are talking about. It sounds like a free spin that online casinos offer to attract new players. If that's the case, some of them maybe real but there are plenty that are fake.

Sounds unbelievable but trust me it did happen. There were quite a lot of crypto events during the holidays especially ones hosted by exchanges and it was one of them I did participate in.  Just so you know, I'm still friends with him tho, but him feeling entitled to my wins just because he had warned me against it.

I'm very much aware that there are fake crypto events so I always do my research before participating.

you have to be careful with a website that gives coins for free and even gets them easily, most of them now have a lot of manipulation and there are also websites that ask for your wallet address... please avoid all of them, friends, I'm worried if you do that, I'm afraid your personal wallet will be hacked. and your balance will be lost without our knowledge, so be careful with freebies.
It's better for you not to do all that, my advice is if you are looking for easy money, but remember everything we have to try. You can take part in the social media bounty campaign and sign on this forum.

Your friend did not only think on that to be a possible scam, he knew that many of its likes have scammed people before in the past and from experience choose to advise you right to be careful about such, if i were you, i will also appreciate my friend for giving such warning, what if the end of it was scam, wouldn't  you appreciated him for advising you earlier, you're only lucky in this case that the whole stuff doesn't close down on scam.

Thanks buddy! Nevertheless, I don't just jump in on every and any events. I mostly take part in events hosted by exchanges. I'm also weary of any event that requires me to put in my personal details. I don't participate.

You absolutely have a valid point friend. Thinking about it now I should've shared with him a little. I really would be appreciated him if it was a scam and I ended up not participating in it. I feel bad now.

What do you think - should I split a contest prize to heal a friendship, even if I solely entered and won? Do you try online spinning promotions or find them too questionable? Let me know your thoughts!
There are a few things that I'm quite curious about:
1. Is your friend an investor with a lot of experience in the crypto market?
2. Which project was the spinning event that you participated in and won? What were the requirements for participants?
3. Why did your friend prevent you from participating in that spinning event? It must have had some risk that he recognized.

It will be easier for us to discuss when we know these things clearly, but I believe he feels uncomfortable because you deliberately ignored his warning to participate in a dangerous game in the crypto market, at least that's what he thinks. You should also think about this because luck is not always on your side.

In the end, I think you have the right to keep all the rewards you deserve. That friend stopped you from participating, not encouraged you to participate. I think sharing money is a less polite behavior. If you want to strengthen your friendship, you can invite him to lunch to talk more about the potential crypto market.

Your friend was looking out for you, online contest can be questionable though, but if you DYOR and you're convinced then ride on. We all have to take calculated risks in this space. To your question I engage in online contest, some I win, while some I'm not that lucky. But the one I win actually gives me a sense of satisfaction. Coincidentally I'm actually looking at one rn, it's hosted by Bitget platform..you may check if it's available in your region..NFA though

I have not learned about any crypto spin events; maybe they are common in your country, but over here in my country, I only see non-crypto spin events that allow someone to win gifts like airtime, money, and other gift items. Since I have been participating in any of those spin events, I have not won anything, so I just assume it's all a scam. I don't waste my time on things like that any more.

Well, concerning the sharing of your win with your friend, if you believe that that's what will re-ignite your relationship with him, then you can give him a little gift from that money.

In the real sense, why would your friend be bothered or demand something you won in the first place, forgetting that he never wanted you to partake in it?

Had it been you lost to the crypto spin, wouldn't your friend be mad at you for getting involved in something he warned you against?

I understand the fact that friends would always want to protect their friends from falling victim to scams but asking for a share of something you as a friend never supported but discouraged is so wrong.

What is expected from your friend, is to beg you to give him some shares of your "spin crypto earnings" since he never belief in it and it would left for you to decide, whether to or not.

Depending on the exchange you use, the exchange I use frequently hosts crypto spinning events. You can literally see it on the mobile app. The particular one I participated in didn't require much, I just needed to hold some amount of BGB token then to qualify for 5 spins and it was one of my 5 spins that gave me my lucky win. It wasn't as though I was risking too much or being careless. Note that he's not even that much of a crypto investor he's more like a crypto- non believer.  I'm considering gifting him a little tho even tho this happened months ago.

1. My friend isn't a crypto investor. He doesn't view crypto as a legit investment.  He believes that the concept of crypto in itself is scam and has no actual value.

2. It was a spin event hosted by an exchange. I just needed to hold a certain amount of the native token to qualify for some spinning rounds.

3. To the best of my knowledge, it was as a result of point number 1. He thinks everything crypto is scam.

One, I never tried any online spinning promotion because I don't usually win a contest maybe I don't have any luck with this "try-your-luck" type of thing though yes some of my friends did it and I still have to hear anybody of them got lucky to be winners but who knows maybe they don't tell me in case they do and I don't think they have the obligation to tell me at all. Second, maybe your friend does not fully understand what he did equating your friendship with sharing the prize. In the first place, he should be a little bit ashamed that he was then proven wrong, therefore he should not demand in anyway to take a part of the prize. I know that stopping you from joining has no ill meaning and he has only your welfare on his mind but if the promotion is 100% free then it is all up to you to join or not. Why would this minor thing cost you both some skirmishes and sleepless nights, so to speak, when there are other things to focus on? Just take it on stride and never mention again to him the whole thing except if you would win again with a bigger prize...just kidding. By the way, how much was the prize...and was it in a form of a cryptocurrency?
