Why is it that, it is when a gambler is losing that he always think of quitting.

At the point of losing, there is always clarity, People understand better the risk they are taking if they continue to loose money to gambling, so there is always the thought that they need to quit. This thought will be more pronounced when they are in a serious financial situation. These thoughts are easily forgotten as soon as money comes because you made them under a position of duress or not out of pure conviction of the need to quit. This is why you always return to gambling even after you promise you are going to quit the last time you lose.

Promises are meant to be broken especially in gambling, when you've started to gamble there's a lot of emotion coming in and we want to always feel these emotions one of which is the feeling of joy when we are being rewarded and a feeling of being challenged when we've loss, so it's not easy to overcome gambling when it got hold of you because you feel alive and you want to feel these emotions over and over again.
This is the dopamine effect.

you don't always return to gamble. If you end up believing you can't possibly win it is easier to quit.

I have said this dozen of times when i wanted to quit smoking and drinking but more than dozen that i failed myself .

so Instead of saying ?i did my best to forget those vises and i won.

same as in gambling, when i am still active , i use totell myself each time I lose that I will quit gambling but never that i won against this until  my wife helps me with it .

I quit gambling in 1990 I used and still use Gamblers Anonymous
I quite illegal drugs in 1992 some pot on my birthday . pot was not legal at the time
I quite cigarettes in 1996 I used Nicotine Anonymous

All drug urges are gone
All cigarette urges are gone
Gambling urges are in control and for the most part in full control.

while we are different from leaving gambling completely because I only quit Smoking. drinking and drugs back in 2010 but gambling? I know my limit now so Am just playing to have fun ..
never that i gamble now just to win but to enjoy and if become a winner then I may just lucky and happy standing my table.

Lolz!! Exactly. And mostly when he has won 2-3 consecutive times then that promise would be broken and continues gambling begins. Many people have said that but the number of gamblers increase daily. And one thing that make people or gamblers to say that they would stop gambling is when they have loss a lot but along the line of they won again like 2 to 3 times then he would not stop again. It is easy to say but hard to stop.

Lossing a game is not what every gambler envisage but rather, they want to win it all. Sometimes it happens that one would have that feelings or say that they want to quit gambling but for the fact that they still have that urge to gamble, they still would go back to gambling. In some cases, addicted gamblers find it difficult to quit likewise a non addicted gambler too whom wishes to quit would definitely find it difficult to do so. All it takes is determination and sincerity to do so. Anyone who says they want to quit and they stop and still continue again is not really ready to do so.

This is more or less with me and drinking. I go long time periods and then have a quality glass of stock or vodka or tequila. Then go a long period of time and repeat.

Sometimes a month sometime 2 months without any. It is not a big issue and never really was.
I was raised in a family that had occasional drinkers not daily or weekly maybe monthly which is more or less what I do.

The determination or encouragement must come from oneself if the addict wants to stop their gambling activities, because someone who is addicted will find it difficult to stop because it can be said that their brain has formed the wrong thought pattern from the start. Gambling is not something one can just quit immediately, it's a gradual process, it takes time and with help of God for someone to quit gambling, especially if you are losing all your money, you might continue to gamble just for you to recover your money back likewise when you win, you will want to win more to replace the one's you have lost so far and this can lead to addiction which can cause some damages in your life, that is it can affect you mentally and physically which can lead to depression etc and there is no way one can be losing or winning and you want to just quit gambling, it's never easy that way, that is why it's very difficult for some to quit gambling even when they want to quit. That is the perfect example of " The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak".

Yeah , what is important now mate is that we are more on our health than just our vices and besides time of having them are enough , its not just a short time and small money that we spend in having them in our life that its more better if we use for our family and for bette living.

Addiction is the same across anything a person can't do without. A smoker who is addicted to weed will tell you how fustraded their life has became and they are trying so hard to quit the addiction they couldn't and they just don't know what brings them back to the same habit and that can be related to gamblers with addiction too, it's not easy to quit addiction.

If anyone us having gambling addiction and want to quit, they get a job and pays well and also takes much of their time, their mind will be in the work because money is involved and wouldn't think of another thing because they are limited with time.
