New Badge - Best Karma Earner (Monthly)

Given that we have a lot of badges on this forum and that adding new ones is obviously not a problem for the administration, I would suggest that we add a new one that would be temporarily awarded every month to the user who received the most +karma in the past month. Apart from the fact that it would in some way be a recognition for that user, it would certainly motivate other members to try even harder and try to win that badge.

It's no secret that this idea occurred to me because I received the most +karma for last month - but if the proposal were to be accepted, I suggest that the badges be awarded only from next month.

For the official result, we can use the @PX-Z tool -> AltcoinsTalks Top Karma Earners (Monthly Edition)

Yes support this proposal why not, I don't see how this could be a bad thing at least. I'd be willing to update the user monthly to avoid adding any extra longer-term duties for admin.

Worth pointing out that badges take time to be created though. Last I remember they are created by a third party graphic designer while following the general style of the forum badges. We're still waiting on a dev badge for example which has taken sometime, so while I think this is a good suggestion, it might take a while to implement if approved by admin.

I like the idea Lucius and, like dragononcrypto, you have my support. I also hope that other users support your idea and that the administrator accepts it (I don't think there will be any problem) but as dragononcrypto says, we will probably have to wait a while until we can see the badge in user profiles, especially if it must be designed by someone outside the forum.

Somehow it seemed to me that the admin had his own role in this, considering the frequent changes in the forum logo on the occasion of various events that the forum marked.

Anyway, the idea is here, so we can only hope that one day it will come to life

From what dragononcrypto said, the "problem" was with the dev badge, but he doesn't mention other badges, so I don't understand what the problem could be, since as you say, the administrator has changed the forum logo many times. I hope that one of them can provide more information on this topic and that your suggestion is accepted.

I like the idea but it might be hard to track down the Karma earned users list every month unless we use a third-party tool like https://pxzone.online/altt/karma-log?sort=default

And only for the highest karma earner that might make it the rarest badge on this forum so I would say be more generous and award it to the top 5 or 10.

If you can only win the badge one time.

But lead say four months in a year.

what happens the three months that you won. do you give the badge to number two.

and if number two also won three third place wins.

see where  am going?  after  a year do we get 12 badges.

or do only the real leader get a badge so if lucius leads in oct nov and dec.

he gets one and no one else gets one.

I think it needs to be a fixed number which means you win the badge if you get 25 merits in a month and there could be six or eight or ten winners for the month.

I like the idea and gave the op a karma.

To simplify things, just a "Top Karma Earner" badge that is given to members who got the most karma per month would make the most sense here. If it were awarded to the top 2-3-10 users, it would end up too many users and would dilute the meaning of the badge. Ideally only a handful of users would have this badge, based on the usual top karma earners. Having one badge that changes from user to user per month also sounds like unnecessary maintenance from mod perspective, it'd be better that there is a badge that is earnt and kept. It would mean up to 12 badges distributed per year, but the likelihood is that only a few would earn it per year (based on the usual names at the top of the list). Maybe it'd even encourage healthy competition for the top spot, who knows.

I don't think there should be a badge for users who simply earnt 25/30/50 karma per month... that's kind of like, irrelevant imo.

No not really! Admin is still busy testing karma associated to post, so to him this proposal is probably considered a non-important pointless badge

As dragononcrypto says, the admin is working on other things that have been in higher demand among users, but let me tell you one thing. Hope is the last thing that is lost, and as proof I will tell you that three years after I made a suggestion (associating + Karma to rank) it is now when the suggestion begins to move a little among users.. The only thing I can tell you is, patience.

I get that you want it to be more exclusive. My issue is since no one gets 2 or more of the same badge we need a system for people that win 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 months.

I guess there could be a

 1 karma win badge
 5 karma win badge
10 karma win badge
25 karma win badge

so the system could carry on when someone wins over and over and over.

I frankly would prefer a

25 karma month
50 karma month
100 karma month

but I do like the idea of a karma badge in general

Still if the  5 or 10 guys always finish first it will get a bit boring for the other member.

I'm not impatient, on the contrary - and personally I wouldn't have touched this topic if it hadn't been raised by another member. Considering other, much more serious things, a badge really seems trivial


@philipma1957, this was an idea more for fun and maybe a little motivation for someone to win something unique every month. I thought when there are already so many badges for everything and anything, one more in a row shouldn't be a problem, right?

I believe Altcoinstalk's administrator is quite flexible. He is very active, listens to what the community  has to say, and is always open to suggestions. Since the forum already has a lot of badges, ranks, and icons, (literally every day, I see new badges which I never saw), I don't think adding one more badge will be any problem.

I don't think it's trivial or not, not everything is going to be serious things. I think there's always room (when we have time) to do fun things on the forum that make users smile, and I also think it's necessary for mental health. So don't worry, I'll check this thread from time to time so that when the admin has time, he can take a look and see how to make things.
