Was it maintenance?
I advise you to "communicate" any planned maintenance if you don't already do so so that people don't panic.
you can, for example, plan maintenance a week in advance and therefore work calmly without causing worry
maintenance is often done when a security breach is noticed and requires an immediate response. So there is no time to announce, hey, in a week we will work on fixing this and that omission... That would practically be an invitation for malicious actors to attack that omission.
There is planned or scheduled maintenance and there's also an emergency maintenance. Both are not approached the same way. If the team discovers a bug and begin to fix it, maybe in the process, one or two things are affected, there's no need for public announcement as the system would be up in a couple of minutes.
But a maintenance that takes a site down for more than a day or two might not be emergency. It might be a huge upgrade and needs to be communicated to the audience and not necessarily mentioning the name or type of maintenance. Rather on a generic note. I think this is what babo meant.
When performing the maintenance this factor should always be taken into consideration people must always be with the confidence that their system is safe. But if the maintenance is temporary and doesn’t really turn off the user, then we can simply concentrate on solving the problem without great concern. But if it is a long process and can cause quite a disruption then clear communication is paramount. Telling users clearly in a simple manner fosters continuation of trust while providing the user time to adapt.
It is important for us as a team to communicate regardless of the fact that we don’t have to relay minute technicalities at the workplace. Looking at this in detail, it consists of offering the clients a brief description of what’s going on and how long it will take to complete. First of all, we stay as much optimistic as it is possible, as our priority is to bring focus and positive attitude to users even if the system is going to be offline for a while.
