How much money have you lost in the crypto industry?

I usually do not like engaging in this kind of discussion because it brings back memories that some people struggled to forget and outgrow, memories of regrets that can bring depression.

I like to focus more on what I have gained from the cryptocurrency industry than what I have lost. Knowing what I have gained is motivating me to commit more to this industry to benefit more.

On my part I personally earn good amount of money from cryptocurrency but I also lost a lot especially from trading memecoins and with my live trading practice as I need to familiarize some exchanges with real money because demo isn't that good and is very different from live trading. I also lost time and effort from scam projects especially from signature campaigns and bounties, airdrops that is worthless and yeah I charge all those as experience and lessons.

I also experienced this, but fortunately for the money that really came from my own pocket, I have never lost that much money. I only used a few hundred dollars as trading capital when I first entered crypto. and that made me think it was better to stop first than to force it and make more losses.

Actually, I am also lost in my asset from cryptocurrency industry. I think that crypto currency market will be very prefer for us, if we understand in cryptocurrency market. I also invest some asset in PBR, but I losses from it for trading system. So I think that trading is one of the best profitable source in cryptocurrency market. So if we want to get huge profit from cryptocurrency market, we must understand in cryptocurrency market and trading system. Because earn from cryptocurrency trading, we must need to acquire knowledge from trading.

much of the money i have lost comes from missed opportunities rather than wrong decisions thankfully i have not invested in many projects that went nowhere unfortunately i also did not manage to invest in projects that ended up being successful even if i knew about it prior the listing

also applies to bitcoin where i miss a potentially good entry or exit in the market i tend to not compute or dwell on the money i could have because then it would just make me feel disappointed and there really is no point in dwelling in such emotions because what is done is done

I can't think of my total losses right now because... I didn't invest my own money. I just used what I'm getting in signature campaigns to invest into other coins and assets. What I lost though is Potential Earnings.

Ever since 2018, I've been into Bitcoin-paid signature campaigns in the other forum and has been paid BTC ever since. Throughout the years, I've been using a portion of that to pay the expenses here in our house, and because of this, I asked myself "What if those BTC that I used to pay some expenses are the ones that I've held until now 2025?" We could've bought a house already plus car TBH. If I will make a rough estimate as well, I will also say that I lost nearly $100,000 in potential earnings as well.

Well, dwelling too much in the past will not resolve anything. I can control the future though so I'll be focusing on that one.

Through the years, I have had been exposed to scams, frauds and mistakes that in retrospect could have already made me rich at least in my country's standard. In my estimated, I think I lost at least $300K mostly in terms of potential earnings primarily because I let go of my 2 Bitcoin maybe around 5 years ago and made many mistakes (including getting into bad programs and projects) that cost me good amount of coins and tokens along the way.

I mean I am in crypto since 2013, I could be having BTC in at least double digits had I taken right decisions, but I don't.

Honestly I feel that lamenting over 'potential earnings' is futile, you either take the opportunities/make the right decisions or you don't.

I don't exactly remember how much did I lose in crypto. But it's a huge money for me since I came from a very poor family where eating 3x a day is hard because of financial problem. And then, I saw crypto and I became interested after reading some information about it. That time I badly needed a job so I'm looking any stuff in the forum to make money and I found out that we can really make money in crypto. At first, I only get small amount but months later I make big money. But because I didn't know what to do with that money, I decided to just keep it while thinking what to do with it. Sadly, the coin that I kept turned into scam. It's very hard for me at first, but I have to accept the fact the money has gone.

I personally, if asked how much, I might say not that much, just how many XLM were lost, stolen by someone, I don't know if I entered the wrong link so that my wallet could be infiltrated by thieves
but I think that's not my part and I'm sure there will be other parts that are more than my loss at that time

I know everyone here might have had their fair share of this kind of story, but there’s nothing you can do about it. You can look forward to the future now and find other income sources.

If we were talking about this more technically, I would say that yours is unrealized profit, and since you never took profit, you never lost it, in my opinion.

I agree with this perspective: we shouldn't waste time comparing reality to the smartest investment scenarios. I no longer regret the big opportunities with DOGE because I sold them in 2018, or I try not to calculate their current value, otherwise I won't be able to sleep because of regret!

Most of my income comes from translation work in the crypto market, and luckily my recent investment strategies have generated profits based on my salary. I only know that I have made a profit and realized a few financial plans in life from that profit, so that's enough to keep me staying in this market.

It is of course true that one should never invest without proper knowledge of trading or proper analysis skills. At the same time, I think that when we make profits here, we should move those profits from that platform and put them in another wallet so that we don't trade them again out of emotion.
Moreover, I think it is best to separate the profits gained after each trading and deposit them in stable coins and later use them to build a physical asset, such as a business, which will provide a big support later.

I must say that's a huge sum of money you've lost there. Really sorry about that. I believe you must have recovered these losses over time.

Truly in the crypto industry, the collision of huge opportunities and losses do occur frequently. Making a huge sum of money from crypto currency can be so promising, so is it to losing it. I will not say I have lost money in the crypto community, as I try all I can to be as careful as possible. When it comes to investment, the period I wanted to start making investment was when scam projects flooded the market. When I realized that, I held my investment capital and turned to trading, which was were I got stocked when the market faced bear run, and majority of my holdings could not survive the bear market and they died along the line, leaving me devastated which almost ruined my financial life both online and in reality. With time, I heald, but I learnt my lessons, coming to know the importance of stable coins.

I have been in crypto world since 2016 and in initial days of entering the market I lost some money when I invested in wrong shit coins that weren't worth it. I lost around $1000 to $2000 at most and that was still a lot for me back then.

But, after those losses I have gained a lot from crypto market and I'm now financially stable only thanks to crypto community and crypto market.

I'm a part time crypto trader now and at the same time, I earn some income from signature campaigns and that's more than enough for me.
