I have no intention of attracting them to become a crypto community or crypto investor, I just want to explain about cryptocurrency, about our side jobs that actually make money and can be used to meet needs...

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"
I will simply answer what cryptocurrency is and what the difference is between fiat and crypto. The advantages and disadvantages, the adoption, the stories of people who made a fortune and also of those who lost. If my friend is the one asking questions, it means he is interested, and if a person is interested,.

We should become open books to them because when we share knowledge we don't lose anything instead we learn and earn more, that's the reality too.

I second the opinion that you should explain cryptocurrency as another form of money where you can earn by doing some jobs. Introducing crypto as a get-rich-quick scheme is not a good idea; if anything, it might lead people to distance themselves from crypto. I think that's how my brother knows about it. I introduced some remote jobs to him, and the owners paid him with crypto, so he has to learn about crypto wallets, exchanges, etc because he needs to liquidate it to fiat for his daily needs. He does end up researching more and learn about meme tokens, airdrop farming, etc, but he knows that those are risky and not the best option to get stable income.

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"

It depends whether they ask it in casual or serious manner. At bare minimum, i would say
1. Cryptocurrency is a kind of digital money/currency that isn't controlled by government.
2. Just like fiat, you can make money on cryptocurrency by doing a job.
Actually, I understand the point of my friends' conversations asking about cryptocurrency, it ends with "How can cryptocurrency make money?" all the conversations actually boil down to that... but when the conversation first started they might have doubted the question a little, so it didn't seem serious... yes, many conversations didn't seem too deep, because what they meant to me was just "I want to make money like you quickly", yes but through unimportant conversations first to start the dialogue...

Sometimes there are questions that I answer seriously, and it just confuses them... maybe because the way I convey the message is not right, or maybe they have difficulty understanding me... however, there are also friends of mine who ask seriously and pay close attention to every word I say... but in the end there are some terms that they don't understand and make them confused...

Funny how people get terrified when you bring up cryptocurrency. Individuals expecting the world to remain motionless while the economy changes. Once you cut off the hype, the scams, the influencers selling dreams, what is cryptocurrency? Simply said, it's a decentralized value system under mathematical security rather than governmental trust. No of magic or fairy dust. Accounting without banks, under control by code, seen by all

How does it make money? Your personality will determine this. Are you a miner? A validator? An trader? A developer? A gambler? Neither does crypto "make money" on its own. It serves as a tool. Some utilize it to create infrastructure while others speculate. Same way people make money off housing, stocks, or the art world. Not because the house is magical but rather since markets exist

Still, most individuals have no idea how it works. When their bills arrive, they want to know whether it is stable, if it is legal, and if they could depend on it. The dilemma is modern. How would you explain an idea that calls for the whole trust-based system they were raised on to be questioned without making them feel as though you are calling them to join a cult?

Hey everyone,

Whenever I bring up crypto with friends, I often get blank stares or a ton of skeptical questions. I try to break it down in simple terms, but it still feels like I’m not getting the point across.

How do you usually explain cryptocurrency to someone new? Do you have a go-to analogy or a crypto investment guide you recommend?

Also, if someone is serious about getting into the space, would working with a cryptocurrency consultant be worth it?

Curious to hear your thoughts!

I personally find talks about cryptocurrencies very interesting and i tend to associate myself with individuals who find such talks interesting. while at the onset if my discovery about this wave of crypto, i gained my knowledge basically from books, youtube and the rest of the media outlets mainly because the people i surrounded myself with had little or no idea of cryptocurrencies. At that point, when i try to introduce topics regarding cryptos in our friends discussion, it was always shoveled as they saw it as a waste of time and funds especially.well fast forward till today, the people i surrounded myself with mostly have in depth ideas of cryptocurrency and it’s benefits as well. Such talks always tend to be interesting as knowledge is gained.

Well, mate, if I tell you how I came to know about crypto space, which is that I am also the one person who came to know about crypto space from my friends, and then afterward one more friend came to me to learn about crypto space, I advised him that whatever you earn or whatever you lose, all will be yours; always jump into the crypto space at your own research; I can just guide you at some points, as your funds and risk will also be yours. Research is a must for every newcomer!

To me I will explain in a simple and plain terms, that cryptocurrency is a digital money that exists only online it's like your money in your bank account, but Instead of being physical, its made up of computer code. It allows you to make payments and transaction without needing a bank. And you have total control over your money, it's extremely secure and your money is protected by powerful computer code that makes it virtually impossible for anyone to steal.

Not simple based on our mind when explaining to the other about cryptocurrency, but if any one ask me about crypto firstly appointed about crypto have high risk but high return for investing. I just guide my friend or the other when asking about cryptocurrency because too risk when recommending them to invest in crypto or based on which one coins have to invest.
Personally, I don't interested yet for explaining the other people about cryptocurrency but if most of them ask about free way to earn money in cryptocurrency I will explain them.

It's hard to tell someone who is a layman and doesn't know anything about crypto at all,
I even have to provide detailed information about crypto and also provide a reference link to know what crypto is.

The laypeople I met including my friends and relatives understood crypto to be just a trade,
even though crypto is broad and not just cryptocurrency trading.

There are many terms in crypto that will not be understood by ordinary people, but if they really want to learn about crypto and get into it,
there will be more effort to learn on their own.

Some will probably do it, but most people will just stop and assume that crypto can't deliver any results because it's not instant.

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"

That's very simple to explain.
I can be like, think of it as a regular money that we use, but in a digital form. Unlike the single currency that is assigned to a particular country, the crypto market is vast and filled with thousands of different currencies that are not assigned to a particular country. You can trade any for the other without leaving your bedroom. You can sell any in a platform we call exchange, for your local currency that is being assigned to your country. The prices of the majority of them fluctuates because they are not stable, while some of them appreciates overtime, making them a good investment asset.

Yes, some new terms may be heard by laymen when we explain cryptocurrency, and actually it takes time to understand them one by one... people's stigma about crypto which is considered as an instant money maker, should be eliminated.... many people think that I make money from crypto in a short time and with little effort.. even though it takes quite a long time to learn it... and they didn't participate when I was in the learning stage...

Very interesting question if you ask me. My explanation here will be that cryptocurrency is simply a digital or virtual currency, and that one can make money off it in a number of ways. One method is to buy cryptocurrency like bitcoin, keep it safe in a secured wallet with the intent that the value will appreciate over a period of time, then sell and make profit. Or the friend can also reserve the coins still in a safe wallet and earn extra coins as interest in the course of time {as with 'staking' Ethereum 2.0}. very importantly, I will bring the friend to terms with the pros and cons associated with it i.e. the volatility of the market and instability of price and live them with the choice to make.

Re: How do you explain cryptocurrency to your friends?
« Reply #28 on: April 04, 2025, 04:12:12 PM »
Well, when I talk about jobs, I intentionally mention cryptocurrency as one of the opportunities to earn money... but the few times I talk about it with people who don't understand cryptocurrency, it just confuses them...

I have no intention of attracting them to become a crypto community or crypto investor, I just want to explain about cryptocurrency, about our side jobs that actually make money and can be used to meet needs...

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"
In my nation, you don't really need to explain much or speak much grammar to let them know what crypto is and probably how to attract them to join the crypto industry. If the question comes...

Man: What is this cryptocurrency all about?
Me: Cryptocurrency is a large word that's all summarized amongst us as Bitcoin (BTC).

Then you've given the most pleasant definition and you've grabbed the attention of your listener. Then you dive into explaining what the Crypto space comprises and how it could generate income for individuals.

Mind you, you need proof to draw attention especially to those who are novice because no matter how good you are in explaining crypto terms without showing proof of your speech, the person won't comprehend even if he nods that he's understanding. They always say; Seeing is believing

I was also about to say make a comparison with stocks but from your angle, it doesn't seem you're telling them to trade. It's more like working extra to get additional income. Just tell them it's like an online money or a token that you can convert to fiat. Once they are acquainted with transferring and converting, they will probably ask more about investing and storing.
