Well, when I talk about jobs, I intentionally mention cryptocurrency as one of the opportunities to earn money... but the few times I talk about it with people who don't understand cryptocurrency, it just confuses them...

I have no intention of attracting them to become a crypto community or crypto investor, I just want to explain about cryptocurrency, about our side jobs that actually make money and can be used to meet needs...

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"

Whatever the case may be I actually don't like explaining crypto to my friends especially the ones that are eager  to make extra cash from every possible means . One thing about people is that they always get the wrong opinion of things whenever things starts going wrong and if am correct crypto is exactly the atmosphere that can turn you frustrated and confused if you tend to venture into with the wrong perspective and idea, which many pay it out as a get rich scheme.

many people think that I make money from crypto in a short time and with little effort.. even though it takes quite a long time to learn it... and they didn't participate when I was in the learning stage...
Some people still think earning money from crypto is easy and fast and they don't know the process.
There were a lot of people who asked and even invited me to learn in crypto from the beginning, but they were inconsistent and didn't do every assignment I gave them so that they understood how crypto works.

Now when I get the results that look great they start asking again and I also remind them even they are not consistent in doing so.

hahaha I feel it too, even it took me years to be able to make thousands of dollars and PAD finally had a fairly stable portfolio in crypto.

A lot of time and effort was wasted in the past but is replaced today because it remains consistent and never gives up to earn more money in crypto.

Those who only know the extent of my income, just think that earning money in crypto is easy,
but in fact it is very difficult and takes a lot of time and hard work.

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"

First of all, they don't! Because it is not a familiar/common topic to discuss about! You see, crypto is banned in my country! So the normal folks doesn't even know or aware of how it actually works! There is no crypto educations here! And tbh, I cannot tell anyone about it, just imagine you are talking about a thing that is illegal in your place. You certainly don't wanna get yourself in trouble!

As for the my friends, family close ones, they don't know the details, I never explained them anything deep. They just know crypto is a form of digital currency. How it works, how it is earned, where can I get it, or how it is different from fiat, they aren't aware!

Agree, it's much easier to send a link to a video from a bitcoin influencer or a crypto news site to a friend or relative.

I've already tried to explain what bitcoin is, how it works and examples of its use, but it's hard work. It's way easier to just grab a video or playlist and send it to a friend, because people prefer to watch videos and listen to them like a podcast.

Of course, I'd never ask someone to watch a video from a complete stranger, I only share content from someone who I already know or follow. The more knowledgeable and well-informed the influencer is, the better it will be for the person being introduced to Bitcoin.
I would never share a video from a channel that's shady, promotes scams or pushes Ponzi schemes.

When I introduce Bitcoin to people, I usually don't mention that it's a digital currency, because that doesn't matter. After all, bitcoin is a universal, censorship-free currency that circulates on the internet. It's comparable to fiat money, but it doesn't have its disadvantages (inflation and surveillance/censorship).... This is just one example of how I would explain Bitcoin to a layperson. There are N ways to explain Bitcoin.

I don't think that there are thousands of authorities in Youtube about crypto. I mean information are still very fairly young as the market itself. You can just call them influencers. But it could be that your knowledge is better than team as we have been in the market for at least 8 years now.

So it's better if we ourselves are the one going to guide this newbies instead of pointing them to Youtube. On the contrary they could be confused on what they read. Or better yet, just point out Bitcointalk or they community so go to thousands of topics and search if they have question.

Yes, when we work in the crypto world for years not only does one study and learn about something but also views the changes that take place. This is why knowledge that we have is of different value than information that is storey-based. Some of the persons who join the market quickly try to seek answers from the videos or social platforms that only increase the confusion at times. Members of this board who have gone there before can for sure be a safer place for them to seek answers or information. Old open areas of discussion that for example date back to the very early days of cryptocurrency discussion board, like Bitcointalk also are a major part of what can not be controlled the same way by particular algorithms or trends of the moment. Feeling that people get an access to one or two so lively with an alive and growing source even if it is through a cursorory browse of the Internet sense is much more suitable.

Honestly, it's very tiring, because I once gave knowledge about cryptocurrency to one of my friends... every time he wanted to know something new, he asked me... and I answered according to what I know, but I also still provide references to YouTube channels or other educational web links, so that he gets knowledge from another perspective...

Therefore, I tend to prefer to include links and YouTube channels that I trust too..

We can very simply say that crypto is a digital payment platform but most people use it for online transactions because crypto is illegal in many countries. However, where it is legal then the people use it to buy physical assets. I will also give him basic ideas on how to profit from investing and trading. All these things give a kind of long experience, but the person who wants to keep everything his own experience is the one who succeeds. I taught only a few people about the crypto world, but many left after they got jobs.

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"
If my friend asks about crypto currency then I'll first give him information about the cryptocurrencies and about crypto market. After that I will share different ways which one can use to make money in crypto market.

The main way will always be to invest in Bitcoin with DCA and dip buying method. I would also tell my friend that how to be safe from crypto scams and rug pulls and definitely I will tell him to go for personal wallet instead of relying on custodial wallets.

Re: How do you explain cryptocurrency to your friends?
« Reply #41 on: April 05, 2025, 06:49:23 PM »
Well, when I talk about jobs, I intentionally mention cryptocurrency as one of the opportunities to earn money... but the few times I talk about it with people who don't understand cryptocurrency, it just confuses them...

I have no intention of attracting them to become a crypto community or crypto investor, I just want to explain about cryptocurrency, about our side jobs that actually make money and can be used to meet needs...

So, what if your friend asks you "what is cryptocurrency? and how does it work to make money?"
I've been asked and have also answered many of my friends: crypto is a new asset class outside of stocks and commodities, accompanied by technology. In it, BTC can be considered Digital Gold, and ALTs can be considered currencies for their own services through smart contracts.

Honestly, it's very difficult to explain everything about crypto to a newbie, and I also don't want to persuade them to join this risky market. They should just know a little bit to easily learn about crypto on Google, through ChatGPT, or crypto forums. After that, participating in or staying out of this market is their own decision.

Everyone already knows how to use google today, they are just not understanding the techie terms.

I also have tried answering in a very simplest term but I used the digital cash wallet that we use in our country to explain it. In the end they are just too polite in not saying they don't understand it being a currency. It needs a demonstration for them to understand. It would take more hours to completely make them understand even to exchange the coins to cash may take a lot of explaining.

Man, it's much easier to explain cryptocurrencies to the younger ones than they older generation. Because todays age is the age of technology, which makes it easier for them to grasp the main concepts of cryptocurrencies. But for older people, for whom technical knowledge still a fairy tale, those who have never heard of cryptocurrencies, explaining it to them becomes one of the toughest job. Even my father struggles to understand the key concept. For the older generation, they are pretty skeptical of these things, for them it is hard to believe that money can exist in thin air. No matter how much I try to explain it to them, they think of it as something illogical and illegal. For them, only paper money is the real thing. This is why I no longer try to explain it to anyone, it just gives me unnecessary headache!

I can relate with how frustrating it is to be explaining something that in your logical view makes perfect sense and is worthy to be implemented or considered then people suspect its motives or deem it senseless. Sometimes people have accumulated a lot of knowledge in their heads and it is hard to change it, even if the concepts have emerged only in the end of the last century, and the things they learn are such things which cannot be seen or touched. That is all you were expected to do, and indeed doing that is enough. However, not all people will be ready to accept new things as change is not anyone’s fault. It is better sometimes not to attempt to say anything at all rather than keep on arguing something that one does not wish to listen or hear. You did well in understanding it and therefore it is unnecessary to justify to anyone on it. In that regard, there are moments when it is preferable to stay silent for the sake of some people and avoid touching certain topics.
