Maybe the right question would have been Money or Reputation. Money will always beat respect because if you have money, you will be respected by many. Money commands respect, when you have money you will be respected naturally or artificially.

That's true. Money is kinda always the boss in things like this. Every one who respects some other person has his reason and so if money can buy off that reason theoretically then the money is still the boss. Like some persons usually say , every one has a. Money cant buy everything but we do know that in this life then money would really be the the most important thing that we should really have. Its true that once you do have that financial capability then you could really be able to do things that you do want and in speaking about respect then its true that you could be respected basing up into the condition that you do have.
There's why we do have that kind of inequality on which this is something that very common global problem that cant be solved out. There's always those people who would really be
sitting in the top due to that known aspect when it comes to financial capability and there's nothing we can do about it.

Whenever you are rich and has plenty money then respect would be instantly guaranteed especially when you live in third world countries where money is worshipped irrespective of how the money is gotten from, however in developed countries no one give damn about your money, though I would choose money over respect any day because I can decide to stay anonymous after having enough money thus I don't needed to get exposed in order to seek respect.

Hmmmm..  that is right I also think having a lot of money can get you respect especially in poor countries where having enough money is big deal. But I do not think respect should only be about having money. In richer countries people respect you for what you do how kind you are and who you are not just for your money.

I understand why someone would choose money over respect. Having money can give you freedom and privacy. But I think it is best to have both money and respect. If I had to choose I would pick respect. Respect comes from real friendships and being part of community which is more important than money.

Everyone believes in this concept that money is the root of all happiness. If you are not financially strong then many people will track your daily activities and make various bad comments against you. At the same time, if you are financially strong enough and have done some bad things, they are hidden in the weight of your money. So to get good respect in the society you must be strong enough financially.

Yes it is true that in developed countries money is not viewed as big because of the large number of rich people. But in poor countries, money is prioritized above everything else. This is still not applicable to a single country, it happens in almost all poor countries

Yes money commands respect but not in all cases, because you can use your money to earn the respect of some people, particularly those who are richer than you, and even if you use the influence of your money to command the respect of those around you, even your family members. How about when the money goes away, because we have seen situations where people who had already attained financial freedom and along the line they lose their wealth, if such a thing happens to a man who’s respect was bought by his money, he’ll definitely lose, not just other’s respect for him, but also some of his family members, so placing your worth on money and wealth means that you may likely that respect.

I see plenty answers here saying that money brings respect, it's true to some extent but not always, some people could be wealthy but not necessarily respected.

Anyway, answer to the topic, I'd choose respect for myself, and enough sense to not butcher it.

In society, you are surrounded by people, and you feel the need of respect psychologically, but with money it brings insane independence in one's life that one could simply buy a huge land somewhere far away from people, that you could care less about their respect.

Like I already said, money attracts respect. I have witnessed a situation where two brothers (first son and second son) were in a family meeting, relatives were giving more respect to the rich son which happens to be a junior to the eldest son but the eldest was poor and he was just on the low. He couldn't say much because there's no money in the pocket and in this era, people look at your pocket size, that's where respect comes it.

There's a saying that money brings fake friends, so if that's true, money brings respect too.

In todays reality on which if you do have that lots of money then you would really be able to gain up that respect and this is something which is really that obvious or something that you could really be able to obtain on the time or moment that you will really be that trying out to compare into those people who do have money and poor people. Somehow there would really be instances on which money isnt everything on where respect from other people cant really be obtained no matter how rich you would be or having that tons of money.

          -      You know in the reality of life that when people know that you have money, they will respect you for sure. Even though you don't have money, if you deal well with your neighbor and they see that you get along well, they will respect you for sure.

Yes, sometimes money or financial status can actually make people overplay their roles in their families or the society at large. People tend to admire those whom they believe has the financial capacity to weather any kind of issue that arises, Thus the reason why they respect the rich over the poor. Again, respect isn’t always about age, age is only but a number, composure and mental capacity matters more when it comes to attracting respect. A person may have an advantage of age over you, but still behaves like a child, it’ll be very difficult for such a person to be respected you know.

Take away the respect and give me money, when you have money, you’ll be respected and that’s what I know and see happening. In some cases, some may value respect over money but it hardly happens though. It use to be a condition the person is that will determine if they will value respect over money or money over respect. You cannot be preaching respect to someone who is feeding from hand to mouth when he also knows he needs the money more than the respect he earns. People will have different choices though but I feel it depends on the situation of life you are in at that time.

Respect is good because it gives good name and good name is important in human life but good conduct of money can brings the two at once. If you have enough money and you are controlling yourself then respect would come on it own. Those who don't have money are not recognised in their communities but those who have are well known. In this present days, people are not respecting those who do not have money, that is no respect for the poor man. Therefore I encourage all to have money then you will get the kind of respect you need.

Honestly,i think it's a tough call between money or respect as both are important in it's own way.
Money in it's own domain,dominates power,and power earns respect,or more;buy's respect.In this 24th century where money is being put first in all things and centered in all things as a priority,not really everyone really considers respect when making crucial decisions involved with making money.Consider the common trend among the youths now;internet fraud,who says this young individuals cares about respect when they could even flaunt their source of wealth freely on social media without thinking twice of anything,c'mon man;they buy respect!Money is what makes you valued,respected and appreciated by others but respect on the other hand gives tou a sense of self worth and dignity.
For me,it's not neccesarily an either or a solution.I think you can have both mainly depending on your prirority.If i had to choose,i'd say respect. Because respect and self respect gives you a sense of fufillment that money can't buy.

You may not have money but gain respect, this is because you're of great substance and value to the people and they recognized that i've seen in so many scenario whereby those having money could not earn respect where they were because of their irrelevance to the people, what we contribute on others matters a lot and so it also count because the people are taking note of them all even when it seems they are not talking or saying anything about it.
