Most times, these private firms want the government to lead by example before they implement anything because the government do not take things Seriously and the private sector knows this so they don't bother because the government is never serious and would not bother them.
It has actually never been the fault of the private sector basically because the ills of the government isn't their fault rather it's totally on the government. One of the most odd irony of it all is that the decisions of the government affect the private sector the most more than even the public sector that is basically the reason why sometimes the government doesn't think these things true before implementing them.

If the private sector has to increase price for instance because of inflation, it's not directly their fault since fixing inflation should be the job of the government.

Yep, government is responsible to fix the problem causing inflation in a country. When there's inflation, it affects everyone in the country both the private sector and the public sector, those that are working and jobless. The private sector is in business, and nobody will run a business that will make him run at loss.

Government has failed in addressing the problem of inflation especially the agents that precipitates inflation because until government address the issue of inflation cost of living will still be high which is the main reason why labour is agitating for an increase in the minimum wage for workers because looking at the current economic situation of the country the salary workers receives in a month is no longer enough to meet the needs of the Nigerian workers due to the fact that the price of goods and services has skyrocketed in the market

Obviously, it is not the fault of the private sector for the looming inflation in the economy and truly they can do nothing about it as it is the sole responsibility of the government to take care of but however, the private sector also have their own quota to contribute in the society which is not compulsory if they want to.

Initially, my point was not about the private sector being able to solve the economic situation of the country, but rather the ability to initiate the minimum wage as the case maybe. When the government who have agreed to implement the minimum wage are laggin behind, is it the private sector that is profit oriented that would be quick to jump into implementing the minimum wage? I believe the answer would be obviously no as they too would be watching at the government with the excuse of them being private firms and should be given time to implement since the government is finding it difficult to implement what they have signed into law.

Minimum wage in Nigeria it can lead to job loss, as the employers can afford to pay workers high wages. It can lead businesses to move overseas, where labour cost are cheap. Some people argue about the high minimum wage that it can lead to inflation, as the business may pass the cost of higher wages to consumers in form of high price. Additional higher minimum wage can help to reduce poverty and improve standard living. The main concern about minimum wage it causes job loss, as the employer's may not be able to afford to pay their worker's.Do you think these concerns will bring benefits of the minimum wage?
I havent actualy considered this until now.
I’ve always had the sole thoughtthat the minimum wage lies as an opportunity for the people and the government too as it brings the government an people closer to each other.
Now looking at the consequences you mentioned,i think it’s safe to say that whatever comes with an advantage follows with a disadvantage.job losses is also an important factor as the Nigerian government have always been known with late payment of wages of their workers and i hope  this price increment doesnt get it worse at all for these workers.
Ngl,the price increment was a good idea however.

Sincerely speaking  the increment or decrement of the minimum wage has nothing to contribute to the betterment of the life of citizens or even that of the country. Imagine being paid using the new minimum wage and at the end of it all the price of a bag of rice alone is eating up a person monthly salary. So from mine own perspective, the government should on their end, work on the betterment of the economy, and this can be done by reducing the rate on corruption and so on, and when this is done,  the country becomes stable with the stability comes no inflation, moderate taxes, moderate transportation fare etc.

Well our concern shouldn't even be on whether the minimum wage was increased or not, because even if it was increased, it may not in most case cover for the expenses of individual and their household due to inflation, which is the persistent rise in the goods and services of a particular nation. So the government should first and foremost rebuild our economy with the decisions they make, and their actions, and when this is done the minimum wage increment or decrement wouldn't even be a problem anymore.

Well you are right. The economy is really broken, prices of commodity keeps increasing in the steady, and it is as if the government are not doing anything about it. They keep promising us of a better tomorrow and life, but there isn't any sight of that. If we look at the economy in the recent years based on the price of dollar, the new minimum age is not  of any difference because the prices of things now is even more expensive than before.

A lot of people will argue this with you. It’s true that the increment won’t do any change in the society but still those receiving will tell you that it’s better than receiving the previous amount because with the new one they can add a few more things to their carts that what they’d have been able to get using the previous ones.

Haven’t you wondered why despite the situation of the economy some people still think the government is working? It’s because slight changes like this makes people who are benefiting directing from it think that the government has done a huge job but in reality it was just a measly increase.

Minimum wage in Nigeria is mostly followed up by government/civil servants of the country. Majority of Private organizations, institutions or businesses does not adhere to this minimum wage policy. I feel it will only lead to loss of jobs when the workers decide to leave their place of work, as a private worker. All government workers will receive the increased minimum wage, but for private workers, you just need to maintain with the existing price or request for increase in wage, not requesting for equal amount as the government workers receive.

Most private organizations offer higher wages than the government minimum wage, this all depends on where one finds him/herself for survival.

Minimum wage! Who is talking about minimum wage whereas the goods/commodities in the market are on maximum prices. How many civil servants have received their so-called minimum wage? In a situation where there will be an increase in the minimum wage, some states will pay while some will not pay yet government is keeping quiet. Is it fair for the workers?

Oh! What a country, what a president, what a minimum wage.

Minimum wage is nothing but a shit in Nigeria, why because people are still suffering and still not living a comfortable life because the minimum wages is too low to solve the situation of the people. But assuming the economic is balance enough i think that will be a relief for the people, talking about minimum wages in some other states who are still battling with there previous payments, because of non implementation of the minimum wage in there states, how are they managing there life. so the government needs to do something for the betterment of the country and the people.
Time will tell

Minimum wage in Nigeria is mostly followed up by government/civil servants of the country. Majority of Private organizations, institutions or businesses does not adhere to this minimum wage policy. I feel it will only lead to loss of jobs when the workers decide to leave their place of work, as a private worker. All government workers will receive the increased minimum wage, but for private workers, you just need to maintain with the existing price or request for increase in wage, not requesting for equal amount as the government workers receive.

Most private organizations offer higher wages than the government minimum wage, this all depends on where one finds him/herself for survival.

It is only in Nigeria where the cost of living keeps increasing, and the minimum wage remains the same. Over the years, minimum wage has usually been implemented after a long showdown between the Labour Congress and the government. Then there are vibrant and incorruptible Labour Leaders who are ready to take the course, but these days, it is not as it used to be, as the majority of them are just after their pockets and do not give a damn thought about what happens.

The private institutions are primarily business-oriented and would not want to put themselves in a situation that would warrant them facing any difficult situation, hence them not giving in to minimum wages, and the government can not dictate for them what they should pay to their staff because they pay tax and by so doing they have the right to pay what they can  afford to their workers as they are a profit organisation.

Most NYSC corpers, were really happy when the the government implemented to your allowances the new minimum wage. They are not aware that they where just played. This i because they cannot even use the new minimum wage to achieve or do anything, coz the prices of things keeps increasing everyday, what you bought 5k today will turn 7k the following week, and so on it goes, like this I dey always fear go market, coz of how prices of things keep increasing, am tired coz our economy has gone to a place of no return,.

It is a good thing that the government has implemented the national minimum wage for the youth corpers but with the situation of things in the country, it's unfortunate that the newly implemented minimum wage can not be able to do anything as a result of the increase of the cost of living which have had a downtone on the economy of the nation and her citizens. Imagine a situation where you now spend almost 50% of your salary on transportation to work every month, what is left of your salary to survive on?

It is quite unfortunate that the minimum wage is still not enough to sustain a livelihood. If they had stood their ground, not allowing the government to reduce the proposed amount for the minimum wage, that would have been okay, but labour shifted ground and the government took advantage of it and pressed them to the least expected of them from the masses and that was how they lost that to settling for this peanut wage approved and implemented which holds no water.
