Trying to depend on the government currently for employment opportunity will only lead you to poverty because even when you manage to get a job, It will not be a high-paying job that will be able to sustain you in this unstable and ever-increasing prices of things in the markets. The best way out of poverty right now in Nigeria aside a well-paying job is a high-paying skill that gives you the opportunity to meet high-paying clients locally or to get a job that pays you in foreign currency. Stop depending on the government because they do not care about you, and that is the bitter truth.

I have heard of some youths in an oil producing state in Nigeria that literally don't involve themselves in the normal hustle of live. They just sit around and argue for their own share of state own crude oil. Like they just depend on what the government/Crude buyers give to them because they feel it's their right, so they don't bother to do anything else. I see no reason why a full grown up will be requesting for a share of what he did not bring to this life, but was opportuned to be part of just because he/she was giving birth to In that region.

From a general sense, it's actually the right of every individual of a locality to benefit from any raw material that comes from that locality, but when we start having cases of people who choose to depend on the benefits, without finding a meaningful job for him/herself, then it will be an additional problem to the society, because that person in question is already a liability.
Of course, we can comprehend that this situation refers to through critical orientation – a consequence that needs proper consideration. Hence as a society, as a society it is important for all of us to encourage each and every person to look to find value and meaning in what they do or provide to the society. Reliance on such natural resources only confines one to great extent and at the same time prevents one from attaining the so called successful well being. If we can help people envision how much potential they have, then in turn, everyone is going to become more productive and the opportunities are going to be endless.

Let us also not forget that citizens in any country are also expected to utilize resources within societies in a proper manner. This way lies the idea that we can influence the macro-environment and actively construct something that will actually have a possibility of letting everyone succeed based on what is provided. There is nothing wrong with promoting an active way of going out and changing the status quo and when everyone is aware of this call, it can help us all to start moving towards development with out neglecting our roles of self responsibility and responsibility to our societies.

We the society must understand that for each of us to find purpose and value in the resultant civilization, the overall advancement can only be anchored on such a platform. Being too dependent on natural resources constrains our growth, but development can be achieved when our emphasis is on efficiency and creativity. Thus we not only make a more productive each individual but also pave way to an infinity of opportunities for the advancement of humanity. The premise described also means that every citizen also has a responsibility to ensure that resources are used constructively to foster the right environment for the collective programme to thrive. Everybody becomes able to do something both to his benefit as a single individual and to the society If we are to progress towards sustainable development.

Brilliant solution from you. You've literally said it all. Instead of making complaints about the government and the failed system, finding ways to create job opportunities and source of income for ourselves should be the way forward. This idea is already a solution on our part, that will at least reduce too many fingers pointing to the government. Even though we don't in any way support the incompetence of the government, but this solution is literally for our own benefits. The failure of the government shouldn't be an excuse. So many of us in this country deserves to live a very good life, and we should try as much as possible to work for it.

+1 by the way.
Unemployment as really affect a lot of citizens in this country, it has turn some individuals illegally (involved in illegal activities) i.e extortion, prostitution, theft and smuggling. all these are happening due to limited employments opportunities which lead to poverty. But that is not the case, since the problem is here, we have to find a solution to it. Just as you said "the failure of the government shouldn't serve as an excuse to us" we shouldn't depend on government that is way we have right to freedom of movement and rights to work, as long as you are not going to involved yourself in any illegal work. We can live a successful life without white-collar jobs, you can hustle or set up a small business, with this you will be earning a living, if you work very hard you will be able to earn what some civil servant are earning as salary, and you will be able to put food on your table and also fulfill some of your financial needs.

Omo the unemployment rate for Nigeria too much wetin sef joor , including a large youth population, a lack of job opportunities,  no investment in education and training. This country na where we dey go sef, Nigeria economy depends on oil and gas sector, wen dey hard for global sector. As no job so many people dey struggling to find work so them fit chop .you know any possible solution wen dey my people,
The only solution to the problem of unemployment in Nigeria is industrialization as there's no other way forward because if they're no companies there will not be any space for people to work, so both private individual and government at all levels needs to take concrete steps in building industries so that the unemployed population of the country can be reduced, all over the world today go and check the developed Economies of the world today it was true the instrumentality of industrialization of their Economies which lead to Creation of industries and companies that reduced the unemployment rate

My boss you don talk well, for me I go advise those wey Dey learned, make dem no wait for one government opportunity to come before them fit out food for mouth oo, because as the country Dey go so, even some slots wey we know say some persons supposed to merit, because of corruption and connection wey Dey go on dem go carry the slot give person wey no get the standard knowledge wey they needed for that position and that na why even the infrastructures they fail. There are several intelligent and smart person wey supposed Dey for some kind positions wey fit do the right tin, but our own na besay, “as long as it is still working, e Dey ok” if everybody do their work well, this country fit better no be only the government Dey responsible for wattin we Dey face today so, but I fit tell you say, majority of the course na from them.

A white-collar job is not a job you should depend on, the government have made it very difficult to get one even though you’re qualified for one. You will not get it that easily, that’s if they don’t even tell you that you’re ineligible for the work or no work available for you. It’s very disheartening how one will go to school, spent time, energy and still not get what they anticipate for in the end.

With all the strikes you go through in school and make you spend extra year in school, they’ll now be asking for a certain age as minimum before you can get a job, that’s bad and that’s what pains me the most when I see requirements needed for a government work. It is better one should focus and put most of their energies into some handwork skills, those stay longer and forever in you and does not mean you cannot be complimenting them with a government work if one eventually comes.

It's really time for Nigerians to stop relying on white-collar jobs, because this jobs are only for those with connections. The worst part is that if they want to enroll, they will make it public, which will cause stress for the poor citizens, who will then end up without any luck because they already have those they will choose.
According to FIRS's recently opened enrollment page, one of the requirements for applying, is being under the age of 28. I was wondering whether there was any unique experience that these people would have that others beyond the age would not have, but still I know governments will still share it with their co-politicians.

Boss na my mind you just pour so because na the truth  be that. If we dey really  look back to see wattin the former governments dem been do, e just dey obvious  say the country dey get bad as them dey change office not just because  the population  of graduates  don plenty but because  everybody  dey come for their own selfish ambition which is to thief some portion of the country money. The thing na besay we just dey act like people  wey no know wattin dey happen and we no go fit just vioce out say dem dey thief our money because  court go require evidence and the court itself na another corruption on its own. But na major fact say them dey thief our money. The citizens  over the years too don adapt to that kind of lifestyle and that na why even small government  positions sef corruption  don touch am.

And the financial agencies still go after those that takes crypto as a means of survival, knowing fully well that the employment rate doesn't match the population rate in anyway. They accuse you of dollarisation of the economy, and degrading the naira, while they borrow money from world bank and IMF. If the youths are actually lazy like the former president said, then i guaranty you that the country would have been far worse than this in terms of crime rate.

Re: Unemployment in Nigeria

The thing wey dey pain me pass na this leaders wey dey suffer this current generation. Because them benefit everything our forfathers did. Education they benefits well. Collect bursary back and front but when they become leaders then dem come deprived the new generation not to benefit anything from the state funds. In dose days after someone finished school employment na guarantee. And if di person no want to do government jobs, private jobs were available to do and not like now wey Dangote is busy exploiting the poor masses with high cost of prices.

If no be cryptocurrency many of our youth for don join bad group do weti no good. Gambling sef help some. Trading sef help some while investment. And the unemployment nai come caused the fraudulent activities more in the country.

I don't know how I will discribe Nigeria government again because we don tok tire but di politicians dey do weti dem like and not weti the people like. In my opinion as I have seen others e good be say make dey protest against di police, and Dangote and not di government. Make we see if we go fit divert di protest go another ways. Because most of those things wey government dey do against di citizens na Dangote dey tell am dey do. And that is the function of the government. It is the duty of the government to create an enabling environment for the capitalist to do business. And Dangote is using dis clause opportunity very well in Nigeria for the detriment of the other citizens. Nigerian government would have created enabling environment for the crypto community in the country and he did in the oil sector for Dangote to operate.

You know what, there no big business person in the cryptocurrency investment space in the country and that is why the government is attacking the crypto community in the country. If there was any things would have been better. America is going to enjoy cryptocurrency because Elon Musk is there and he supported Donald Trump.

What style of leadership do you expect when they paved way for themselves through the backdoor. You see when a leader who is bereft of ideas takes on power,  the masses always wail for help because of the hardship they face.
Back in the days things were so cheap and life was very easy then compared to these days. The crop of leaders we have today were products of the free education of those days and today they do not want to bother replicating the same thing they met which made them who they are today. All they are after is money and luxury which has lured them into corruption forgetting about their primary assignment for which they were voted for.

It is quite unfortunate that the rate of unemployment is quite alarming hence unemployed graduates evey where but I think time has gone far beyond that stage when one would graduate from University and start looking for white collar jobs. Skills are now the the saving grace of the youths and that has kept things working perfectly well without one bothering about the government and her issues.

Re: Unemployment in Nigeria

You have a Point though, but industrialization can’t reduce unemployment in the country the way you are expecting it will reduce it but not that much because we don’t have ability or even facilities to try and create things our self. The industry you are talking about to be made what type of things are they going to manufacture and more so different type of industry needs to be take to consideration not all things can be manufactured and we will have to create things that will be of beneficial to the country and some other nation.
All I’m saying is that we need helps from other nation to in such places like facilities and amenities our nation can provide all that we lack many things but industrialization will really be of good benefit to us and will help reduce poverty and unemployment. I thinks so other things should be put into consideration too.

Indeed, it is high time individuals searched for openings apart from well-structured formal employment like corporate jobs that are hard to secure without influence. Therefore the process of stabilisation can be initiated through the creation of new businesses, encouragement of which can lead to more independence and material sustainability than reliance on the state’s resources. Restrictions of age in the employment process should not be alibi for those who possess the potential of the right attitude to work. The government has a major role in ensuring that equal opportunities are extended to the people in employment hence there is need for proper recruitment policies that will give all personnel a chance to improve their standards thereby also improving on the country.

To me the most painful part is when applying for a job and they are looking for individuals with 5-10 years work experience me wey just dey graduate.
Nowadays looking for a white-collar job is difficult but having a skill or craft can also be helpful to provide for yourself, being an entrepreneur even do it is hard and expensive especially looking for  capital to start business is better than someone just waiting for or looking for job employment
Unemployment is one of the most common challenges that we face in this country. Taking education as an example, there is a shortage of lecturers/teachers in most primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, which has a negative impact on the knowledge of future generations unless you enrol your child in private institutions, which not everyone is capable of doing. Unless the government had recruited more individuals.
