« Reply #30 on: October 11, 2024, 11:27:30 PM »
The main concern about minimum wage it causes job loss, as the employer's may not be able to afford to pay their worker's.
Many employees will prefer not to be paid the minimum wage than to lose their jobs because if they lose their jobs, there is no assurance that they will get another job outside anytime soon. Employers know this, and the wicked ones who have no intention to honor the new minimum wage will give the option to the employees to either agree to continue receiving the normal salary or lose their job. Of course we know the answer already.

What I think would be the situation at the end of the day is many people working and not receiving the minimum wage even though the government has passed it into law. Employers cannot afford to pay and employees cannot afford to lose their job.

Concerning this, is there no law that punishes those that fails to pay their workers up to the minimum wage? What you said is true, some might not want to honor this new law and because of the fear of being stranded most of the workers in the company will still stay, I think the government so set up an agency that run a check across all companies that is fit enough to pay the minimum wage and let that start paying their workers that and if they decide to pay more than that it shouldn’t be anyone’s business as long as the workers are not underpaid.
In the first place looking at the situation of the country now do you think anybody would want to joke with their job irrespective of the fact that minimum wage saga is ongoing and the private sectors are yet to implement it does not guarantee that they would still give in to the pressure and if any worker seems difficult and hell bent on agitating against their employer, you know what would happen to them so nobody would want to make the mistake of losing their job. They would rather play cool with their employer than taking sides with the government because the government can not be trusted as they are yet to trust themselves in implementing the new minimum wage they promised.

The truth is that all these agencies are not dependent on their operations, they are biased in judgement and are always ready to dance to the tone of their paymasters little wonder you see them being inactive and not taking any action against most organisations found wanting because most of the organisations belongs to their pay masters and they would not be able to further prosecute them.

As it stands now nobody would want to risk their job for nothing not to talk of now that the economic situation of the country is kind of worse. They would prefer to be silent because people you going to complain to would be the one to betray you for the fact that you want to spoil business for them. These days everyone is just being careful with their activities.

Minimum wage in Nigeria it can lead to job loss, as the employers can afford to pay workers high wages. It can lead businesses to move overseas, where labour cost are cheap. Some people argue about the high minimum wage that it can lead to inflation, as the business may pass the cost of higher wages to consumers in form of high price. Additional higher minimum wage can help to reduce poverty and improve standard living. The main concern about minimum wage it causes job loss, as the employer's may not be able to afford to pay their worker's.Do you think these concerns will bring benefits of the minimum wage?
I no dey understand una for this naija shebi minimum wage now Dom turn to high wage again? How is minimum wage a high wage 70k as minimum wage and u say it is high who told u that, ok come to think of it do u know how much the senators, the commissioners and house of assembly members earn as salary what is there work do u know a government school teacher works harder than them yet we are here complaining that the minimum wage 70k is too much.
U even talk say some people go lose their jobs cause employers no go fit pay salary, let me remind u that this minimum wage is not for private workers oo na for government workers so how will people lose their job and why will the government not be able to pay a 70k salary.

But honestly speaking this minimum wage is not the solution to our problem, we need cost of goods and petrol to come down 70k can't even feed a family of 5 presently correct me if I'm wrong. Labour have played their part but it is still like chasing after shadow they are not hitting the nail to the wall in this country everything is just for fun. Temporal situations.

I think if they want to start looking into payment method in this country they should also consider making payments per time that would be better cause the private sectors are working their spirit, soul and body out for a little amount of payment so if they are to look into payments they should consider per time cause no private institution e,g, local private schools, sales girl and sales boy, bakeries and so many more would obey the government order to pay 70k not in this planet and like the poster have said if the government are really mean to implement this order many people will go home hungry many businesses will shut down and it's another poverty increase. So I think the per time method would be more preferable.

So I think the per time method would be more preferable.

The only place I have seen them pay workers per time is only in lecture houses as for cooperate jobs they don’t same goes for private sector.

Business owners don’t really care about their workers to implement this - as long as they keep getting profit from their business and pay their workers something that will keep them working even though it is not up to the standard wage they don’t care what happens afterwards.

It’s going to take a very long time before we can see a change in how workers are paid - nowadays people no longer want to work under a company they want their own so that they’ll be able to do what they want without having to wait for the company to give them their chicken change as salary.

I do not think this country have gotten to the level of making salary payment per time. Most organizations are just dependent on contract  for survival and in some cases were there are  no contract for them they fold up not to talk of paying workers per time. Although the system is fast developing and would get to that level but for the now, they should just concentrate on monthly payment as that would be fine. Besides, the government who implements laws sometimes owe workers for months and can not pay and in some cases, they layoff workers with excuses, tell me how do you think they would agrees to paying per time  to workers or implementing such laws at their own detriment.

Re: What do you think about the minimum wage?

Minimum wage in Nigeria it can lead to job loss, as the employers can afford to pay workers high wages. It can lead businesses to move overseas, where labour cost are cheap. Some people argue about the high minimum wage that it can lead to inflation, as the business may pass the cost of higher wages to consumers in form of high price. Additional higher minimum wage can help to reduce poverty and improve standard living. The main concern about minimum wage it causes job loss, as the employer's may not be able to afford to pay their worker's.Do you think these concerns will bring benefits of the minimum wage?

Minimum wage in Nigeria cannot cause job loss but rather it will reduce the suffer Ness of the people, increase and improve standard of living both for the workers and the public at large, because when you look into the situation the betterment of the workers has an impact in the life of unemployed Nigeria and same goes to the marketers and business earner's. In this case if some organisations feels they can't pay and increase the Salary of there workers, should not give them the room to sack them but rather look for an alternative to reason with them otherwise they will also be at loss and it can lead to the downfall of there businesses or organisations. Because no one today will want to work for a personnel without enjoying the fruit of his labour. So also paying minimum wage can eradicate hunger and sufferness of the people in Nigeria, but first of all the Government should set a standard for the price of food stuffs and other importants needs of the people, because if not done whenever an increase is made on worker's Salary the marketers and business people also increase prices on there products and this cannot uplift the Country higher but rather will make things get worsen for the people of that Country.
Always be yourself.

In fact, an increase in the minimum wage can really be a rather constructive act in the interest of the general welfare of society because raising the wages in one way or another affects not only the positions of workers, but also society as a whole, the unemployed, and businesspersons. When workers are also empowered regarding their welfare, they will have better purchasing power, which can in the long run trigger other successes in the economy. But it is also imperative that we have to make sure that we raise the minimum pay rate and that there should be the regulation of price increase in basic commodities in order not be outdone by the rate of inflation. For welfare to be achieved for all the value chains of the society the government should intervene in the market prices of these basic needs and at the same time moderate the communication between workers and employers for continuos business operations.

If the country had a good system or agency that monitors the implementation of this type of things those workers won’t have to worry about them losing their jobs because they’ll just send an anonymous email to those agency that their employer refused to obey the government.

I believe in a world where most organizations use contracts as the main form of operation, it kind of makes sense why such a per-hour payment system will feel so far-fetched. With an inclination towards the prospect of receiving more either monthly than weekly we may end up realizing more stability for the workers. Still, this also points to the necessity of the enhancement from the governmental level in questions of timely payments for the employees at all, and for improving the situations with the workers’ trust and financial security in the future.

I don’t know if I understood you correctly or not because from what I get from your post you’re trying to say that it’s not good for the hourly payment methods because most workers will get paid more than they usually receive which in turn would increase their stability.

Indeed, get what hourly pay can actually be one of the means to offer much fairness to workers. Hence, the wages given are proportional to the time and energies they dispense which ultimately assists stabilize their economic position. It also pays them fairly and provides workers with a chance to earn more if they want to work flexible hours or more hours every day.

In more sobriety, it does justice to the hourly wage systems where workers are rewarded in proportional to the time they spend at work. It supports our wage determination policy we give wages based on productivity by promising those willing to work extra hours or flexible hour’s better opportunities. Similarly, it is possible to raise the economic security of workers since their wages depend only on the number of hours worked. Regarding minimum wages statistics in the US, the trend of sectors’ flexibility, and employees’ openness for working time related pay is presented through data based on average weekly hours worked by hourly paid workers which were found in the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The main concern about minimum wage it causes job loss, as the employer's may not be able to afford to pay their worker's.Do you think these concerns will bring benefits of the minimum wage?
There's no relationship between increasing the minimum wage of workers and loose of job's it's not true as there's no relation between the two, All over the world it's standard practice that over a give time interval the salary of workers be reviewed and check with with current economic realities on ground so as to balance equation because let say in a country like Nigeria where there's high inflation rate and your salary doesn't change over time you will find out that workers will be suffering and will not be able to meet up with the demands of their family basically due to high inflation which will affect everything in the market and if your salary is not increased then you will be doing more or less a charity work as you will not be able to meet up.
There's need for minimum wage to be reviewed regularly so worker's will not be too affected by the harsh economic situation that the country finds itself. Increase in minimum wage will not lead to any loose of jobs as any organization that sacks it's workers using minimum wage as an excuse should be sanctioned using the various labour laws in the land
